First Look At Michael Cera In Sebastian Silva’s New Thriller

October 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first images have arrived on the likes of Michael Cera and Emily Browning in a film which until very recently was going by the title Magic Magic but currently doesn’t have a name. Despite the lack of a title, the makers are keen to show off the movie at the American Film Market, so the film pics and a poster for the film have been released via ShockTilYouDrop.

The site says, ‘Sebastian Silva writes and directs the film which concerns a young American traveler named Alicia (Juno Temple) who, while in the spectacular Chilean lake district, begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Michael Cera and Catalina Sandino Moreno). More and more she unravels, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods. In this disturbing landscape, she experiences crushing terror and knows that she must escape. A destabilizing, psychological thriller recalling the best works in the genre, this film entices viewers into a world they won’t be able to forget.’

Killer Joe (DVD)

October 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Emile Hirsch, Matthew McConaughey, Thomas Haden Church, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon
Director: William Friedkin
Running Time: 103 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 22nd 2012

I can easily imagine a lot of people loving Killer Joe due to its dark, twisty-turny plot, while a lot of others will also thrill to the pitch black humour. However there are a lot who will find the whole thing rather nasty, cruel and repellent, so if you think you might be one of those people, you’ll probably be best to avoid this. However if you do like thrillers that go to the most sordid of places, you may well love this.

Chris (Emile Hirsch) is in need of cash and so embroils his brother, Ansel (Thomas Haden Church), in a plot to kill their heartless mother. They’re going to hire a lawman called Joe (Matthew McConaughey) who moonlights as a hired killer. It’s going to cost $25,000, but Chris has heard his mum has a $50,000 life insurance policy that will pay out to his sister, Dottie (Juno Temple). Joe wants to be paid upfront, but agrees he’ll have Dottie as a kind of retainer. However nobody has thought things out very well and things soon spiral out of control, especially when they realise just what a mean character Joe is. [Read more…]

Juno Temple & Joe Anderson Have Horns

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Joe Anderson (The Crazies) and Kelli Garner (The Aviator) are the latest actors to board the supernatural fantasy/thriller Horns, according to Variety. They join the already cast Daniel Radcliffe and Max Minghella.

Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill, Horns is set to be directed by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) from a screenplay by Keith Bunin (In Treatment). The movie is a supernatural thriller that follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Temple).

Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realises their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

The widely acclaimed book was on the New York Times best seller list for six weeks, and has become an international bestseller. Principal photography is slated to begin this fall.

Was Catwoman Bisexual In The Dark Knight Rises?

August 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s a theory that’s started doing the rounds that perhaps Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) wasn’t just interested in Bruce Wayne, she also liked a bit of lady action on the side. The idea comes via Queerty and there is actually some evidence for it – more than there usually is for this sort of thing.

The reason Queerty has been wondering is because of the presence of the character played by Juno Temple in the movie. To be honest, there didn’t seem to be much point for her being in the film, other than to be the “street smart Gotham girl” she’d been described as prior to the film’s release and to apparently live with Kyle. But was there something sexual between them?

Here we leave the actual movie, which didn’t really suggest a sexual relationship, and go to the comics. Temple’s character is based on Catwoman’s friend Holly Robinson (indeed Juno is credited as Holly on IMDB). Holly was created by Frank Miller for his legendary 1987 miniseries, Batman: Year One. In that first incarnation she was an underage prostitute who Selina takes under her wing while she takes up a career as a cat burglar.

While Holly disappeared for much of the ’90s, she returned in Ed Brubaker’s Catwoman series in the early 2000s. This time around she was a recovering drug addict and a lesbian who acts as Selina’s eyes and ears on the streets (she even briefly became Catwoman during Kyle’s maternity leave). Holly ever earned Catwoman a 2004 GLAAD media award.

Temple wasn’t in The Dark Knight Rises all that much, so it’s tough to say which incarnation of Holly she was mainly based on, although it certainly raises the possibility that her relationship with Selina wasn’t entirely plantonic. And if it was, there’s still a decent chance Temple’s character is a lesbian, even if it isn’t mentioned. Sure a lot of this is speculation beyond the movie, but it’s throws up some interesting ideas nevertheless, especially if Catwoman ends up getting her own spin-off.

Jack & Diane Trailer – Riley Keough & Juno Temple fall in love, with a dash of horror

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack And Diane has long been billed the ‘lesbian werewolf movie’, although that’s a bit of a misnomer. Now we get our first look at the movie, which is about the title character (June Temple and Riley Keough) who are two teenage girls that meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But when Jack discovers that Diane is moving she pushes her away. Unable to grasp her new feelings, Diane’s emotions begin to cause unexplainable violent changes to her body. Through these awkward and insecure feelings, the two girls must struggle to turn their first love into an enduring one. There are elements of horror to the film, but to call it a ‘lesbian werewolf movie’ isn’t quite right. The film premiered at Tribeca in April, and will hopefully get a release later this year.

Maleficent Adds Juno Temple To The Fairy Ranks

May 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After quite a long time in development, Disney’s Maleficent will shoot this summer. Now THR reports the film has added Juno Temple as one of three pixie fairies who try to help the Princess Aurora, in this look at Sleeping Beauty from the bad fairy’s point of view. Angelina Jolie is set to play the title charater.

The story explores why Maleficent is so angry she’d curse Aurora, which apparently has less to do with not being invited to her Christening and more to do with a love affair gone wrong with the king. Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville will play Juno Temple’s two fairy companions, Knotgrass and Flittle, tasked with taking care of Aurora in the woods. Temple is Thistletwit, who is described as neglectful and superficial.

Elle Fanning is also onboard as Aurora, with Sharlto Copley playing a half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the king. Other cast members include Miranda Richardson and Sam Riley.

Killer Joe Trailer – Matthew McConaughey turns contract killer

May 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Who’d have thought trying to kill your mum would cause suc trouble? When 22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to a drug lord, he hires a hit man to dispatch his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy benefits his sister Dottie (Juno Temple). Chris finds Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a creepy, crazy Dallas cop who moonlights as a contract killer. When Chris can’t pay Joe upfront, Joe sets his sight on Dottie as collateral for the job. The contract killer and his hostage develop an unusual bond. Like from a modern-day, twisted fairy tale, “Killer Joe” Cooper becomes the prince to Dottie’s Cinderella. Based on the play by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Tracy Letts, “Killer Joe” is a garish, proactive black comedy from Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) and stars Emile Hirsch, Matthew McConaughey, Juno Temple, Thomas Hayden Church, and Gina Gershon. The film’s out June 29th.

Lesbian Werewolf Drama Jack & Diane Set To Premiere At Tribeca

March 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack & Diane has a fairly long production history, which largely consists of various actresses such as Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby attaching themselves to the title roles, before moving on. As a result it took a long time to get it in the can, but it was finally filmed last year with Riley Keough (who’s Elvis Presley granddaughter, incidentally) and Juno Temple in the lead roles.

Now the lesbian-themed fantasy drama film is set to gets its premiere, with the announcement (via The Playlist) that it’ll screen at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which runs April 18th-29th.

The movie is about two teenage girls who meet in New York City and despite being very different, spark up a relationship. When Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane struggles to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.

Jena Malone also stars, with Kyle Minogue popping up in the movie as a tattooed lesbian. Hopefully the movie will reach the UK later this year.
