The Lego Batman Movie (Blu-ray Review) – Has the Caped Crusader gone a little gay?

June 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis, Ralph Fiennes
Director: Chris McKay
Running Time: 104 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: June 19th 2017 (UK)

The Lego Movie was a surprise to many – a film that when it was announced sounded like such a bad idea turned out to be one of the funniest, most original animated movies of the last few years, and a major hit to boost. Warner Bros. suddenly realised they had the potential for something much bigger, so rather than just putting a sequel in the works, they started working on spin-offs, including a Ninjago movie and The Lego Batman Movie.

We first met the Lego version of Batman (Will Arnett) in The Lego Movie – an arrogant vigilante convinced of his own greatness and jealous of the praise other superheroes get. He starts out the same here, saving Gotham City from The Joker and a Rogues Gallery of villains, and confident about how awesome everyone thinks he is. However, he’s also obsessed with doing things alone, with the result that when he’s back at Wayne Manor, he only has his butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) for company. Batman thinks that for the best, but it may be because he’s afraid of having a family. [Read more…]

Crystal Fairy Trailer – Michael Cera goes to Chile

June 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Crystal Fairy (also known as Crystal Fairy & The Magical Cactus) is an intriguing looking movie, although it’s not likely to change perceptions that Michael Cera is a bit of a one-trick pony.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On a trip through Chile a boorish American expat named Jamie (Michael Cera) and three Chilean brothers plan to set off in search of the prized San Pedro cactus and its promise of beachy hallucinations. But in the previous night’s drunken stupor Jamie invites a free-spirited fellow American (Gaby Hoffmann), whose devil-may-care worldview gives them more of an adventure than any of them had bargained for.’

Magic Magic Trailer – Michael Cera & Juno Temple team for a psychological thriller

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a fair amount of interest in Magic Magic at Sundance, which gives Michael Cera a rather more intense and dark role than we’ve come to expect from him, as he sets about driving Juno Temple nuts.

Now a new trailer has been released, so we can all get a taste for the movie.

Sebastian Silva writes and directs the film which concerns a young American traveler named Alicia (Juno Temple) who, while in the spectacular Chilean lake district, begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Michael Cera and Catalina Sandino Moreno). She begins to unravel, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods.

It going straight-to-DVD in the US on August 6th, and should reach the UK later this year.

October 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first images have arrived on the likes of Michael Cera and Emily Browning in a film which until very recently was going by the title Magic Magic but currently doesn’t have a name. Despite the lack of a title, the makers are keen to show off the movie at the American Film Market, so the film pics and a poster for the film have been released via ShockTilYouDrop.

The site says, ‘Sebastian Silva writes and directs the film which concerns a young American traveler named Alicia (Juno Temple) who, while in the spectacular Chilean lake district, begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Michael Cera and Catalina Sandino Moreno). More and more she unravels, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods. In this disturbing landscape, she experiences crushing terror and knows that she must escape. A destabilizing, psychological thriller recalling the best works in the genre, this film entices viewers into a world they won’t be able to forget.’
