Sausage Party (Blu-ray Review) – Seth Rogen leads some rude, crude, animated food

December 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Bill Hader, Edward Norton, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Seth Rogen
Director: Conrad Vernon, Greg Tiernan
Running Time: 89 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 26th 2016 (UK)

Ever since it was first announced, Sausage Party sounded like a completely insane movie, and now it’s here, that judgement has been proven correct. It may also one of the most in-your-face Hollywood releases ever on gay/bisexual front – even if that LGB content does involve animated food.

Frank (Seth Rogen) is a sausage, who’s spent his life in his package in a supermarket, waiting to be picked by the ‘gods’ (aka humans), and taken to The Great Beyond. Every day all the food in the market sing about the joys of The Great Beyond, and how nothing bad could possibly happen to them there. The sausages are also excited because getting picked will finally get them out of their wrappers and sliding into the sexy buns they’ve long flirted with but barely been able to touch. [Read more…]

New Sausage Party Trailer – It’s dangerous being animated food for Seth Rogen & co.

May 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sausage-party-slideSausage Party has been described as Toy Story for grown-up – a CGI animated comedy about food that comes to life when no one is looking. However while toys have to worry about their owner leaving them behind as they grow up, food has to worry about being eaten.

Sausage Party Red Band Trailer – Seth Rogen becomes animated food in an R-rated comedy

sausage-party-slideYesterday at SXSW Seth Rogen presented a work-in-progress screening on his R-rated, CG animated movie Sausage Party. It got pretty good buzz, even if it wasn’t finished, with many suggesting it’s a smart and funny movie, which takes a sideways look at belief and religion.

Now the first trailer has dropped, which you can watch below.

Zach Galifianakis, Seth Rogen & Bill Hader Will Find The Something In A New Comedy Sci-fi

February 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-galifianakis

Sci-fi comedies don’t have a great track record at the box office, but Zach Galifianakis, Seth Rogen and Bill Hader aren’t going to let that put them off, as THR reports that they’re all set to star in The Something. Unfortunately though there’s not too much info on the movie.

All we know is that it ‘follows a group of male astronauts, who, after being stuck in space for years, come upon another ship.’ The script comes from Rodney Rothman, who also wrote the likes of 22 Jump Street and Grudge Match. He wll also make his directorial debut with the film.

Don’t be surprised if the rather ‘blah’ title changes, but hopefully the talent involved means the script itself is a good one. Universal is backing the movie, which is also a good sign, as Hollywood is usually wary of space-set sci-fi comedies unless they have reason to believe such a potentially pricy project will be worth it.

Inside Out (Cinema Review)

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Phyllis Black, Mindy Kaling
Director: Pete Docter
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: U

Pixar have consistently delivered some of the greatest animated family movies of the last 20 years. I say family, as not only are these aimed at youngsters, but they also charm adults as well. We have had movies about fish, toys, monsters, cars, balloons and bugs. Now they are going inside your head – literally.

For those who have not seen the trailers or the adverts, the film is centred around five emotions in young girl Riley’s head. These characters represent Sadness, Joy, Fear, Disgust and Anger, all emotions we are familiar with – in fact everyone in the film has these emotions (no more). [Read more…]

The Skeleton Twins (DVD Review)

March 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell, Boyd Holbrook
Director: Craig Johnson
Running Time: 89 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 16th 2015 (UK)

With SNL alumni Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader in the lead roles, you could be forgiven for thinking this would be a riotous gross-out laugh-fest, but right from the first few scenes The Skeleton Twins sets itself to be something far more indie dramedy.

Hader and Wiig are twins Milo and Maggie who aren’t completely estranged but have severely drifted apart after he left for LA to become an actor. Things aren’t going to well though, as the movie opens with Maggie narrowly escaping death and Milo attempting suicide. He heads back to their hometown to stay with Maggie and try to start over, but they soon discover that reuniting isn’t easy and that neither of them is in a place in their lives where they feel they should be. The Skeleton Twins Trailer – A gay Bill Hader & a straight Kristen Wiig are estranged siblings

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

skeleton-twinsIf you heard that SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader were starring in a movie together, you’d expect zany comedy to ensue. And if you heard Hader was playing a gay character, you might have visions of his outrageously camp SNL character, Stefan.

However The Skeleton Twins is a lot more dramatic than you might expect, even if they haven’t completely given up on the comedy.

they play Maggie (Wiig) and Milo (Hader), who are twins who went their separate ways years ago, but when they coincidentally cheat death on the same day, the shock makes them reunite and figure out how their lives went wrong. Maggie starts to re-examine her marriage to nature-loving slacker Lance (Luke Wilson), while the gay Milo goes to visit old flame Rich (Ty Burrell).

The film is due in cinemas later this year, but take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (Blu-ray)

February 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris
Director: Cody Cameron, Kris Pearn
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: February 17th 2014

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was a surprise success – a movie that on paper sounded too bizarre to find a mass audience, but thanks to wit, immense inventiveness and a clever use of its premise grossed over $240 million around the world. The sequel isn’t quite as good as the first movie, but it’s still a lot of fun.

Following the events of the first film, the island that inventor Flint Lockwood lived on is now covered in the food that his fantastical machine managed to create. As a result Live Corp and its chief, Chester V (who’s Flint hero), agree to step in with promises to clean things up, while giving everyone a home on the mainland in the meantime. Flint is given a job at Live Corp, where he’s always wanted to work. [Read more…]

Bill Hader In Talks For Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck

January 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bill-haderBack in November, director Judd Apatow revealed that he was set to helm Trainwreck, which Amy Schumer will take the lead role in. Now she may have some company as Variety reports that Bill Hader is in talks to join the Universal Pictures comedy.

The film has previously been described as being about ‘a basket case who tries to rebuild her life, but still to be found are her boyfriend, a best friend/co-worker and a parent.’ It’s not known who Hader will be, although it’s most likely he’s up for the boyfriend role.

It isn’t clear when shooting will start, but Universal Pictures has already set a July 24, 2015 release date for the movie.
