Amy Poehler & Difficult People’s Scott King Team For Gay Odd Couple Style Comedy Series

November 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amy-poehlerFor the last few years US network TV has been trying to find a gay-themed breakout hit, with mixed success. However they’re not giving up, with ABC keeping The Real O’Neals on the air despite not great ratings, a revival of Will & Grace being mooted by NBC, and Kit Williamson writing a show centring on a gay character for CBS.

Now we’ve got another to add to the list, as ABC has made a script commitment to Family Style, which THR describes as a ‘Gay Odd Couple Comedy’. Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite production company are behind the show, which is inspired by the life of Difficult People showrunner Scott King, who will co-write the script for the pilot alongside Claudia Lonow.

There’s now too much info on the series itself, other than that it will be, #a single-camera comedy described as a multi-generational half-hour about two mismatched men from different cultures who find love in a family-run restaurant in Miami.’ At least one of those men will be gay.

At the moment, ABC has only committed to a script, but they must think there’s a good chance it will work, as there’s a financial penalty in the contract if they don’t move forward with the show (presumably at least with a pilot).

New Sisters Trailer – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are reuniting

November 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sisters-1-sheet-slideSynopsis: ‘Dynamic duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back this December in SISTERS, the hysterical new comedy from Universal Pictures. The new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.

‘Fey produces the comedy alongside Jay Roach (Meet the Parents series) and John S. Lyons (Austin Powers in Goldmember), and Poehler executive produces alongside Jeff Richmond and Brian Bell from a script by Paula Pell (TV’s Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock).’

Maya Rudolph, Ike Barinholtz, John Leguizamo, Dianne Wiest, John Cena and James Brolin also star. It’ll be in UK cinemas December 12th.

Inside Out (Cinema Review)

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Phyllis Black, Mindy Kaling
Director: Pete Docter
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: U

Pixar have consistently delivered some of the greatest animated family movies of the last 20 years. I say family, as not only are these aimed at youngsters, but they also charm adults as well. We have had movies about fish, toys, monsters, cars, balloons and bugs. Now they are going inside your head – literally.

For those who have not seen the trailers or the adverts, the film is centred around five emotions in young girl Riley’s head. These characters represent Sadness, Joy, Fear, Disgust and Anger, all emotions we are familiar with – in fact everyone in the film has these emotions (no more). [Read more…]

Maya Rudolph Reuniting With Tina Fey & Amy Poehler For The Nest

June 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maya-rudolphmaya-rudolphSaturday Night Live has a long history of forming great personal and professional relationships, and indeed if you look back at Tina Fey’s post SNL career, you can see how many of her former colleagues have been involved in her success.

That’s not changing with The Nest, which already has Fey and fellow SNL alum Amy Poehler, and has now added another in the form of May Rudolph, according to THR.

Even the script comes from a former Saturday Night Live writer, Paula Pell. It’s about two sisters (Fey and Poehler) who decide to throw one last massive party in their childhood home before it is sold. It turns out to be a cathartic experience for the siblings and their friends.

Rudolph will be childhood friend of the sisters, while James Brolin signed on earlier this week to play Fey and Poehler’s father.

Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing, with a late 2015 release date set.

Amy Poehler Joins Tina Fey In The Comedy The Nest

April 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tina-fey-amy-poehlerThere’s no doubt that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are great friends, having hosted the Golden Globes together, and co-starring in the likes of SNL and Baby Mama. Now they’re getting back together for The Nest, according to Showbiz411.

Fey has been attached to the film for over a year, which is about two thirtysomething sisters who discover that their parents are selling their childhood home.

They spend one final weekend together in the house, bonding and feuding before realising that they both need to grow up. Poehler and Fey will play the sisters.

Paula Pell, who served as a writer on 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, wrote the screenplay, while Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) will direct.

Free Birds (Blu-ray)

March 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler, George Takei, Colm Meaney
Director: Jimmy Hayward
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: March 24th 2014

There’s always an issue with movies about things such as American Football and Thanksgiving. While you can see why they’d be popular in the US, they don’t always travel well, as most other countries don’t have those traditions. That’s particularly true with family films, as many youngsters won’t even know what Thanksgiving is.

Free Birds seems to have realised this though, so that while non-US youngsters won’t get the nuance of the founding fathers and why turkeys are the preferred meal, it does at least make sure it sets out the basics so they won’t be completely lost. [Read more…]

A.C.O.D. Trailer – Adam Scott tries to deal with his parents’ divorce all over again

August 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s a sense that Hollywood thinks it’s only a matter of time until Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott breaks it big in the movies, and with some great notices from festival screenings, perhaps A.C.O.D. is the film to do it.

He plays Carter, a seemingly well-adjusted Adult Child of Divorce (the A.C.O.D. of the title). Having survived the madness of his parents’ divorce, Carter now has a successful career and supportive girlfriend. But when his younger brother gets engaged, Carter is forced to reunite his bitterly divorced parents and their new spouses for the wedding, causing the chaos of his childhood to return, including his wacky therapist.

The great cast also includes Richard Jenkins, Catherine O’Hara, Amy Poehler, Clark Duke, Jessica Alba, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jane Lynch. It’ll be out later this year.
