Horns (DVD Review)

March 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, Max Minghella, Joe Anderson
Director: Alexandre Aja
Running Time: 115 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 16th 2015 (UK)

Horns is a certainly a bit of an odd film, not least because it can’t quite decide what it is – comedy, horror, fable, fantasy, thriller, murder mystery, drama – flitting between them all with little sense of consistency. It’s probably this difficulty in pigeonholing the movie that has limited its audience so far, but in many ways that’s a shame, as while very uneven it is oddly entertaining and just a little beguiling.

Daniel Radcliffe is Ig Perrish, whose girlfriend (Juno Temple) has been murdered and everyone in his small town has decided he’s the killer, despite there not being enough evidence to charge him with anything. Things get a little bizarre when he wakes up one morning to discover he’s grown horns out of his forehead, and that he now has the power to get people to admit to all the things they’d normally keep hidden away (he discovers a lot of these things involve what they’d really like to do to him, as they believe he’s gotten away with murder). Full Horns Trailer – There’s something different about Daniel Radcliffe

August 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Horns-quad-PosterThere are quite a few people out there who’d like to see Daniel Radcliffe with a horn. Well now’s your chance!

The full UK trailer for Horns has now arrived (as well as the rather cool quad poster above), which focuses on the early parts of the movie, before Radcliffe wakes up on morning to literally find he has horns growing out of his forehead.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From master-of-horror Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) comes this supernatural, offbeat thriller starring beloved British actor Danielle Radcliffe (Harry Potter, Kill Your Darlings) and the talented Juno Temple (Magic Magic, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For).

‘Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is accused for the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). After a hard night of drinking, Ig awakens, hungover, to find horns growing out of his head; they have the ability to drive people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses. Ig decides to use this effective tool to discover the circumstances of his girlfriend’s death and to seek revenge by finding the true murderer.

‘Daniel and Juno lead an all-star cast with strong support from David Morse (The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker) and Heather Graham (The Hangover I&II, Boogie Nights).

‘HORNS is based on the dark fantasy novel of the same name from New York Times best-selling author Joe Hill (Heart Shaped Box) with a screenplay by Keith Burnin. Alexandre Aja, Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland and Cathy Schulman produce.’

Horns arrives in the UK on Wednesday 29th October 2014. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Daniel Radcliffe Turns Sexy Bad Boy In A Horns Character Poster

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Horns-Character-Poster1If we needed more proof that Daniel Radcliffe has left goody-two-shoes Harry Potter behind we just need to look at him being mean, moody and extremely horny in the new Horns character poster above. Especially when you compare him to Juno Temple’s angelic look below.

Horns Trailer – What’s growing out of Daniel Radcliffe’s forehead?

July 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

horns-teaser-trailerHorns certainly shows a different side of Daniel Radcliffe – although you have to wait until the very end to properly see what’s really changed about him for this role, as he literally has horns growing out of his forehead.

In Horns, ‘Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is accused of the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). After a hard night of drinking, Ig awakens, hungover, to find horns growing out of his head; they have the ability to drive people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses. It certainly look pretty intense and rather unusual. Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) direct.

It’ll be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

Jesse Plemons & Juno Temple Up For Black Mass

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jesse-PlemonsA couple of months ago Jesse Plemons’ name was linked with Star Wars, but now he’s landed a different role, as THR reports that he’s up for Black Mass, starring alongside Johnny Depp and a fellow new addition, Juno Temple.

The film is a biopic of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (Depp), a Boston criminal who ended up becoming an FBI informant, with the help of his longtime friend and FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) and his brother (Guy Pearce), who was the former President of the Massachussets State Senate. However Whitey didn’t completely turn good guy, as his tips to the feds were mainly about getting rid of his mob competition.

When Connolly tipped Bulger off that the feds were planning on double-crossing him, the criminal went into hiding for more than a decade, rising to the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list before he was eventually caught in 2011 while hiding out in Santa Monica, California.

Plemons will be Kevin Weeks, “a blue-collar tough guy who is part of Whitey’s inner circle.” Temple meanwhile will be a prostitute.

As Black Mass is due to shoot this summer, it suggests Plemons is out of contention for Star Wars, which isn’t too surprising as he was just one of many young actors JJ Abrams met for role in the movie.

Lovelace (DVD)

December 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Juno Temple, Adam Brody, James Franco
Director: Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman
Running Time: 89 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: December 23rd 2013

How do you make a true-tale movie where the facts are in dispute? Well, you either pretend they’re not in dispute, or you try to find a way to suggest you don’t fully know what happened. Or, like Lovelace, you try to do both and trip over yourself in the process.

The film is a biopic of Linda Lovelace (Amanda Seyfried), the star of 70s porn chic hit Deep Throat, which by some reckonings is the most profitable movies ever made on the basis of budget versus its gross – however as much of the cash went through mob-controlled porn theatres, it’s impossible to know how much it actually made. Magic Magic Trailer – Michael Cera & Juno Temple team for a psychological thriller

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a fair amount of interest in Magic Magic at Sundance, which gives Michael Cera a rather more intense and dark role than we’ve come to expect from him, as he sets about driving Juno Temple nuts.

Now a new trailer has been released, so we can all get a taste for the movie.

Sebastian Silva writes and directs the film which concerns a young American traveler named Alicia (Juno Temple) who, while in the spectacular Chilean lake district, begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Michael Cera and Catalina Sandino Moreno). She begins to unravel, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods.

It going straight-to-DVD in the US on August 6th, and should reach the UK later this year.

Ray Liotta, Juno Temple & Jeremy Piven Join Sin City: A Dame to Kill

January 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ray-liottaMost films finalise their cast before they shoot, but due to the green screen nature of the Sin City films – where actors don’t even need to be in the same room at the same time to shoot a scene together – Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller seem to be going for an approach which is to see who’s free and then add cast members when they’re needed.

So despite it having already been shooting for quite a while, The Playlist has revealed Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Piven have joined the ever-growing cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. However, no details have been released regarding their characters.

This follow-up to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City features returning cast members as well as a number of new actors, some taking on previously established roles. Mickey Rourke (Marv), Jessica Alba (Nancy), Rosario Dawson (Gail), and Jaime King (Wendy) are reprising their original roles. Jamie Chung is replacing Devon Aoki as Miho, Dennis Haysbert takes over for the deceased Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute, and Josh Brolin steps in for Clive Owen as Dwight.

The film will hit cinemas this autumn.

Elizabeth Olsen & Suraj Sharma Among EE BAFTA Rising Star Award Nominees

January 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-olsenThis morning the nominees for the EE Rising Star Award were announced, which is the only gong given out at the BAFTA Film Awards that is voted for by the public. The nominees however were picked by a jury which included the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Mark Kermode. Previous winners (when it was the Orand Rising Star Award) include James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, Noel Clarke, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy and Adam Deacon.

So who’s up for this year’s award? Well take a look at the info below and then head to ee.co.uk/bafta to vote! The winner will be announced at EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 10th February 2013.

ELIZABETH OLSEN: At 17, Elizabeth moved to New York to study acting at the Tisch School of the Arts. After graduating she took Sundance by storm in 2011 when she appeared in not one but two of the most highly praised films in the festival: Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House. Most recently Elizabeth has completed production on the Spike Lee directed remake of Oldboy, opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Brolin.

Commenting on her nomination, Elizabeth said “Being considered for this award is a huge honour. So many actors whom I admire have been recognized in this category and I’m very thankful to BAFTA and the jury for selecting me.”

ANDREA RISEBOROUGH: Andrea graduated from RADA in 2005 and quickly began to accumulate critical acclaim and awards for her stage and screen work. She made her film debut in Roger Michell’s Venus. Roles in Never Let Me Go, Brighton Rock and Mike Leigh’s comedy-drama Happy Go Lucky soon followed. Andrea has also starred as both a young Margaret Thatcher in Margaret Thatcher –The Long Walk to Finchley and Wallis Simpson in W.E. She recently finished filming opposite Tom Cruise in Oblivion, which will be released in April.

Andrea said: “To even be counted amongst this, and the last seven years’ rising star nominees feels utterly phenomenal! BAFTA nurtures new talent throughout the international film community so I am so very grateful to be given this fantastic opportunity, and look forward to us celebrating the kind recognition together.”

SURAJ SHARMA: Until recently 19 year old Suraj was living a quiet, middle class life with his parents in the suburbs of South Delhi. But, after an extensive search throughout India, Suraj was picked from 3,000 hopefuls to star in director Ang Lee’s 3D epic, Life of Pi. Before taking on the role, Suraj had no previous acting experience. The director had complete faith in his young lead, describing Suraj as a “gift from god” and a “great actor in a past life”.

JUNO TEMPLE: In just a few years, Juno Temple has firmly established herself as one of the most versatile and talented young actresses in Hollywood. Her breakthrough arrived when she won the role of Cate Blanchett’s rebellious, brooding daughter in Notes on a Scandal. This led to her appearance in the BAFTA- and Oscar-winning Atonement, opposite Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan. Since then a variety of well received film roles have followed, most recently opposite Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch in the darkly comic Killer Joe.

Juno commented: “I’m extremely honoured to be nominated by BAFTA for this award and the fact the winner is voted for by the public makes it all the more exciting.”

ALICIA VIKANDER: Swedish born Alicia trained with The Royal Swedish Ballet for nine years before dedicating herself to acting. After appearing in several shorts and Swedish TV shows, she made her big-screen debut in Lisa Langseth’s Pure. 2012 saw Alicia burst onto the international scene with two major roles: Anna Karenina opposite Keira Knightley and Jude Law and the period drama A Royal Affair with Mads Mikkelsen. Recently Alicia has starred in the Warner Bros. feature The Seventh Son.

Alicia said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be nominated for this year’s EE Rising Star Award and would like to thank the jury for short-listing me. 2012 was an amazing year for me and I want to thank everyone who has supported me in my career to date.”

New Clip From ‘Lesbian Werewolf’ Film Jack & Diane

October 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack And Diane has long been billed the ‘lesbian werewolf movie’, although that’s a bit of a misnomer. Bradley Rust Gray’s film follows the title characters (Juno Temple and Riley Keough) who are two teenage girls who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But when Jack discovers that Diane is moving she pushes her away. Unable to grasp her new feelings, Diane’s emotions begin to cause unexplainable violent changes to her body. Through these awkward and insecure feelings, the two girls must struggle to turn their first love into an enduring one. There are elements of horror to the film, but to call it a ‘lesbian werewolf movie’ isn’t quite right. The film premiered at Tribeca in April, and arrives in UK cinemas on November 2nd (sadly no UK release is currently set). Now a new clip has arrived, and you can take a look at a featurette about the movie below.
