Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (Blu-ray Review) – A game (and gender-swap) like no other

April 30, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Nick Jonas
Director: Jake Kasdan
Running Time: 119 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: April 30th 2018 (UK)

Every so often a film comes along that beats all expectations at the box office. Film commentators then race to come up with reasons for its runaway success. They tried to do that for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, but generally came up short. After all this is a film that initially people thought would be lucky to clear $200-$300 million worldwide at the box office, but which ended up with $900 million+ and is now the highest grossing film Sony Pictures has ever made.

Is it down to the box office power of The Rock? Was it because there wasn’t much family film competition at the time it was release? Did box office watchers underestimate the love people had for the 1995 Robin Williams Jumanji movie, especially as many of those that grew up with that film now have kids of their own? [Read more…]

March 16, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a decade the threads that have woven between all parts of the Marvel Universe have been leading towards Infinity War. The evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) has been lurking on the edges, while various movies have involved what will be revealed to be the Infinity Stones.

And because of that, pretty much everyone is coming together or this film, including the Guardians Of The Galaxy, who’ve been almost stand-alone up until this point. The film will include Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Dave Bautista (Drax), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Chris Evans (Captain America), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Paul Bettany (Vision), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and plenty more.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.’

The film hits cinemas April 2018. Take a look at the explosive new trailer below. [Read more…]

Avengers: Infinity War Super Bowl Spot – Marvel heroes from across the galaxy come together

February 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel/Disney decided that for its Avengers: Infinity War Super Bowl spot, all it needed to do was show just how many heroes its bringing together for the movie. There’s a sense that the 10 years since Iron Man have been leading to this, with the Avengers from earlier movies being joined by the likes of Doctor Strange and the Guardians Of The Galaxy to take on Thanos.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. New Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Trailer – Dwayne Johnson is a teen boy & Jack Black gets gender-swapped

September 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the last few months there’s been a lot of talk about how Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle will respect the original and follow the spirit of the Robin Williams movie and his character. However, the trailers have suggested we’ll be dealing with a very different kind of film.

This time around a bunch of teens get morphed into a Jumanji videogame, which involves a nerdy teen boy becoming Dwayne Johnson, and a hot girl suddenly finding herself as Jack Black. And as the new trailer shows, the girl inside Jack has the hots for Johnson.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…’

The movie is due out in December. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer – Say hello to Star Lord’s dad, Kurt Russell

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although we’ve had a couple of promos for the excellent looking Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, one thing we haven’t seen is Kurt Russell as Star Lord’s father, Ego the Living Planet. That’s now been remedied with a new trailer – although you have to wait until the very end to see him. Oddly, he does look like he really could be Chris Pratt’s dad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, Victoria Alonso, Nik Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts into UK cinemas April 28th 2017.’

Take a look at the new promo below. It’s certainly looks like it’s gonna be another good one, and the early rumours suggest Marvel and James Gun have done it again. [Read more…]

New The Circle Trailer – Emma Watson & Tom Hanks explore the dangers of modern technology

February 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Based on a Dave Eggers novel, The Circle is a film that’s vaguely science-fiction, but actually far closer to reality than we might like to admit. After all, Google and Facebook already know more about us than even our closest friends.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Circle is a gripping modern thriller, set in the not-too-distant future, starring Emma Watson (“Harry Potter”), Tom Hanks (“Sully”) and John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”). When Mae (Emma Watson) is hired to work for the world’s largest and most powerful tech & social media company, she sees it as an opportunity of a lifetime.  As she rises through the ranks, she is encouraged by the company’s founder, Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks), to engage in a groundbreaking experiment that pushes the boundaries of privacy, ethics and ultimately her personal freedom.  Her participation in the experiment, and every decision she makes begin to affect the lives and future of her friends, family and that of humanity.’

The likes of John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, Bill Paxton and Glenne Headly also star. Take a look at the trailer below. The film will be in US cinemas in April, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

The Circle Trailer – Emma Watson and Tom Hanks take on a techno-thriller

December 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-circles-slide-2017Based on a Dave Eggers novel, The Circle is a film that’s vaguely science-fiction, but actually far closer to reality than we might like to admit. After all, Google and Facebook already know more about us than even our closest friends.

Watson plays a young woman who’s hired for a big job in an Internet company called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. It’s there that she meets a mysterious older man, Bailey, who has created the Circle.

Director James Ponsoldt comments to USA Today, “Bailey’s notion is that knowing is good, and knowing everything is better. He believes all experiences should be available to everyone, not only the privileged or people who can afford to them. He’s deeply interested in technology that can make people share all human experiences with everyone. He’s a boundary pusher, even boundary destroyer.”

The likes of John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, Bill Paxton and Glenne Headly also star. Take a look at the trailer below. The film will be in cinemas next year. [Read more…]

First Pic From Jumanji Reboot Arrives With Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black & Karen Gillan

September 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jumanji-remake-pic1While some still aren’t sure whether Jumanji needs a reboot, it’s getting one and it’s now is production. Kevin Hart has posted the first image from the movie, which features the comedian alongside co-stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black & Karen Gillan.

It’s not known exactly how this reboot will handle the story, but it will still be based around the basic concept of a board game where what happens in the game also happens in real life, which causes havoc when the jungle starts to erupt into reality. Those involved have been keen to say that the movie will be respectful to the Robin Williams film, and that it is likely to take place in the same universe, rather than being a complete restart.

The new picture suggests the film may spend much of its time in the Jumanji jungle world, with the characters getting stuck inside the game and needing to get out. It’ll be in cinemas next year.
