New Avengers: Infinity War Trailer – It’s all been leading up to this for the Marvel heroes & it’s looking epic

March 16, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a decade the threads that have woven between all parts of the Marvel Universe have been leading towards Infinity War. The evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) has been lurking on the edges, while various movies have involved what will be revealed to be the Infinity Stones.

And because of that, pretty much everyone is coming together or this film, including the Guardians Of The Galaxy, who’ve been almost stand-alone up until this point. The film will include Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Dave Bautista (Drax), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Chris Evans (Captain America), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Paul Bettany (Vision), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and plenty more.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.’

The film hits cinemas April 2018. Take a look at the explosive new trailer below. [Read more…]

Peter Dinklage In Talks For Avengers: Infinity War

January 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Avengers: Infinity War is gonna be a big movie, which promises to bring together all the major Marvel universe characters, not just the usual suspect such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Thor. There’ll also be Spider-man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ant Man and the Guardiand Of The Galaxy too.

Now they may be getting a big of a Game Of Thrones injection, as Pete Dinklage is in talks to join the movie and the fourth Avengers movie, according to Variety. Unfortunately though it hasn’t been revealed who Dinklage might be playing.

Not too much is officially known about the plot, although it is known Josh Brolin’s Thanos, and that it will involve the Infinity Stones, which have played roles in various titles, being brought together. Captain America: Civil War helmers Anthony and Joe Russo will direct both Avengers 3 and 4, which are expected to shoot back-to-back this Summer.

Captain America: Civil War Directors Think LGBT Heroes May Come To Marvel Movies

May 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anthony-and-joe-russoRecently there’s been a fair amount of talk about the lack of LGBT representation in big, tentpole, blockbuster movie. It was brought into stark relief a couple of days ago when GLAAD released its Studio Responsibility Index, which revealed that no movie released by Disney in 2015 featured an LGBT character. It highlighted how the likes of the Marvel universe is completely straight.

However, now the director’s of Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo, have suggested they think there’s room to change that. When asked by Collider whether they think LGBT heroes will be brought into the Marvel universe, they said, “I think the chances are strong. I mean, it’s incumbent upon us as storytellers who are making mass-appeal movies to make mass-appeal movies, and to diversify as much as possible. It’s sad in the way that Hollywood lags behind other industries so significantly, one because you think that it would be a progressive industry, and two it’s such a visible industry. So I think it’s important that on all fronts we keep pushing for diversification because then the storytelling becomes more interesting, more rich, and more truthful.”

Admittedly that’s far from saying it’s going to happen, and it’s one thing for directors to be interested in it, and another to get studio executives to invest tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars in a film featuring LGBT characters and heroes. However, with the Russo’s directing the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, they will hopefully have some sway to get things moving in the right direction.

Earlier this year, the makers and cast of Deadpool loudly proclaimed that, as in the comics, the screen version of the character is pansexual, and saying that certainly didn’t hurt it at the box office. However, other than a few jokey comments, that pansexuality wasn’t particularly visible on-screen.

The Russo’s believe though that the success of Marvel may mean it’ll become easier for the studio to take a ‘risk’ on an LGBT heroes. They added, “I think this is a philosophy of Marvel, in success it becomes easier to take risks. There’s a lot of unconventional ideas in Civil War in terms of what people’s expectations of a superhero movie are, but I think we were able to do that because Winter Soldier worked and Marvel’s been working in general, so there’s more of a boldness in terms of what you can try and where you can go. So I think that’s very hopeful for all of us moving forward that bolder and bolder choices can be made.”

It will still be an uphill struggle though, as there’s still a massive fear in Hollywood that an LGBT hero in a massive tentpole movie would be box office poison in less gay-friendly countries such as Russia and China, and may result in a right-wing backlash that could effect returns in the US and other countries. Whether that’s true or not can’t really be tested until a studio makes a major movie with an LGBT lead, but it’s going to be tough to convince them to do that.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer – Get your first look at Tom Holland’s Spider-man

March 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-civil-war-spider-manWhile there have been quite a few images and posters for Captain America: Civil War, they’ve deliberately shied away from showing us one of the main things everyone wants to see – Spider-man’s first appearance in a Marvel movie. The deal between Sony and Marvel allowed it to happen, and Tom Holland was cast in the role, with Civil War marking his first appearance before he gets a standalone movie.

However, the new Captain America: Civil War makes the big reveal, so get a good look at the new Spidey below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Martin Freeman, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

‘Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.K. cinemas on 29 April, 2016.’ [Read more…]

Paul Rudd & Paul Bettany Join Captain America: Civil War As Production Begins

May 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ant-man-paul-rudd-shirtlessCaptain America: Civil War is increasingly turning into and Avengers movie in all but name, as while it will lack a few of the throng, such as Thor and Hulk, it’s got Iron Man and Scarlet Widow, and now it’s been confirmed it will also have The Vision (Paul Bettany), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and James ‘War Machine’ Rhodes (Don Cheadle).

To many people’s surprise, after making his Marvel Universe debut later this year in Ant-Man, Paul Rudd will also be in the new Cap film.

And while Marvel has largely ignored 2008’s The Incredible Hulk despite it being technically part of their filmic universe (even if it did have a different actor in the main role), it’s now bringing back one of that movie’s characters, William Hurt’s General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

The info was included in a press release announcing the start of production, which also included the following synopsis, ‘“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.’

As that suggests, the movie will shake things up, with the fallout being seen in Avengers: Infinity War.

What isn’t known yet is who will play another character we’ve been promised for the movie, Spider-man, but presumably we’ll find out who’s playing the role very soon.

Martin Freeman Joins Captain America: Civil War In A Mystery Role

May 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Martin-FreemanWith his trip to the Lonely Mountain in The Hobbit over, Martin Freeman is heading in a different direction by signing up for Captain America: Civil War, according to an announcement by Marvel.

There’s no news though on who he might be playing, although I think it’s safe to say he won’t be a Halfling with hairy feet, or indeed the companion of a super-genius detective. There’s also no hint on whether his deal is just for a single movie, or if this will set up his character for further films, either on the side of good or of evil.

My bet would be the latter, especially with the recent news that Civil War will directly set up the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Another interesting possibility is that he could also appear in Doctor Strange, which would reunite him with his Sherlock co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch.

In the comics, the Civil War storyline centres around the Superhero Registration Act, which demands that those with super-human powers register themselves with and serve the US government. Steve Rogers is unimpressed by this and rebels against it, while Tony Stark (yep Robert Downey Jr. is back) thinks it’s a good idea. As a result the various heroes split into factions that ending up doing battle with one another.

The movie’s due out May 6th, 2016.

Channing Tatum Will Lead A Ghosbusters Flick As The Spook Hunters Get An Extended Universe

March 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing-TatumSequels have been king in Hollywood for a long time, but that’s not enough for the studios anymore, as seeing the success Marvel has had they all want Extended Universes. So far we’ve only really seen it in the world of superhero flicks, but now Sony has revealed that they think they can do it for Ghostbusters too.

Considering getting a third film off the ground has taken years, announcing advanced plans for other films a surprise to many, but just a month after they revealed a female-led Ghostbusters movie starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, Deadline reports Channing Tatum is attached to a more male-focussed Ghostbusters film, with the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) set to direct.

Sony are keen to keep a link to the original movies, as they’ve set up a new division of their company, Ghost Corps, which will be led by Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman and will oversee the expansion of the Ghostbusters world.

Reitman says, “We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film [with McCarthy & Wiig] will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew [Peirce] will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

It’s been known that Tatum has been interested for a while, but it had never been clear whether the idea of him joining the Ghostbusters universe would come to fruition. Now it appears it will.

Daniel Bruhl Joins Captain America: Civil War (& Possibly Doctor Strange) In A Villainous Role

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel-BruhlIt’s always busy in the world of Marvel, and with Avengers 2 and Ant Man wrapped and now in post-production, they’re already hard at work on putting the pieces together for Captain America: Civil War. Now another has slotted into place with the company revealing they’ve added Daniel Bruhl (Rush, Inglourious Basterds).

There’s no news on exactly who he’ll play, although most sources suggest he’s take on a villainous role in the movie – even with that, there’s disagreement over whether he’ll be the main villain or not.

Some have also linked to announcement to the related rumour that the Doctor Strange villain will be introduced in Civil War, and that this is the role Bruhl has signed on to play. At the moment this seems like the most likely scenario.

Anthony and Joe Russo return to direct, with a May 6th, 2016 release set.

Robert Downey Jr. Coming Back For Captain America 3 & He’s Set To Start A Civil War

October 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-downey-jrWhile Robert Downey Jr. was always going to return for a third Avengers film after next year’s Age Of Ultron, but until recently all suggestions had been that other than that he was hanging up the exo-suit.

However recently he suggested that against all odds he may well make an Iron Man 4 too, and now Variety reports he’s set to be a huge part of Captain America 3.

It would seem that what’s convinced Downey to remain a major part of the Marvel world (other than the gargantuan pay deal he’s negotiating, said to be $40 million plus profit participation) is that it will allow him to be central to a massive development in the comic book universe – the eruption of Civil War, which it seems will start in Captain America 3.

That means it won’t just be Batman Vs. Superman pitted against each other in 2016, as the Civil War storyline in the Marvel Comics centres around the Superhero Registration Act, which demands that those with super-human register themselves with and serve the US government. Steve Rogers is unimpressed by this and rebels against it, while Tony Stark thinks it’s a good idea. As a result the various heroes split into factions that ending up doing battle with one another.

It means that in Captain America 3, Stark is likely to be close to being the villain, although we’re sure they won’t make him too bad.

There are also rumours that Anthony Russo and Joe Russo won’t just direct Cap 3, but will also take over from Joss Whedon for Avengers 3 & 4, but at the moment that is far from being confirmed. Captain America 3 is due out May 6th, 2016.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Cinema)

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson
Director: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo
Running Time: 136 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: March 26th 2014 (UK)

It’s a sign of the times that our superheroes these days are not quite all macho and invincibility, rather plagued with doubts and worries – Batman as Hamlet for example. Captain America seems to be no exception – this actioner has as many scenes with him frowning and worrying over America’s place in the world as zooming around fighting baddies. It’s still not exactly complex – at one point his pal asks, “Which ones are the bad guys” – and he answers, “If they’re shooting at you they’re the bad guys.” [Read more…]
