Lee Pace On For Guardians of the Galaxy Villain

During the fairly lengthy search for the lead role of Peter Quill (AKA Star Lord) in Guardians Of The Galaxy, one of the frontrunners was Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace. He may not have bagged that role, but he has landed one of the other, playing the movie’s villain.

Although the villain’s identity has not been disclosed, many feel there is a good chance that he may play Taneleer Tivan, also known as The Collector. Just yesterday it was revealed that Ophelia Lovibond is playing one of The Collector’s henchmen, so we do know that character is in the movie. In the Marvel comic books, The Collector seeks out life forms and universes to protect from the evil Thanos, whose presence was revealed at the end of Marvel’s The Avengers.

Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) are also confirmed to star in this Marvel Phase Two adventure. James Gunn is directing from his own original screenplay, with production scheduled to commence in June. Lee Pace will next be seen in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as Thranduil.

Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess & More Testing For Guardians of the Galaxy

November 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While most of Marvel’s Phase 2 plans involve continuing the franchises they’ve already started – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Avengers – they’re also taking a gamble on another superhero team, Guardian Of The Galaxy.

Now they’re starting to put the cast together, with Deadline reporting that Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne have signed deals to audition for the role of Guardians leader Peter Quill.

James Marsden, Garrett Hedlund, and Sullivan Stapleton have also reportedly shown interest in the role, although it is not known if they are planning to audition. It’s an interestingly diverse bunch of actors, none of whom are household names but represent very different physical types and range in age from early 20s to late 30s.

Peter Quill is a former NASA astronaut who eventually comes to learn that his father is an alien, which leads him into outer space. Armed with a sentient ship and a suit that enhances his strength, Quill eventually transforms into the Star-Lord.

James Gunn is due to direct the movie, which already has a release date set of August 1st, 2014. When it was first announced, it looked like the movie would be CGI, but it now appears it will indeed by live action. There’s no news either on whether this will be tied into the other Marvel movies or stand alone (as Thor 2 takes the God to more realms, it could give an opportunity for an early crossover, but that hasn’t been confirmed).

Crush Of The Day: The Men Of Twilight

November 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Twilight has the incredible ability to split people into camps of those who utterly adore everything about it and those who reserve a special hatred for it that infects every part of their soul, the series has brought us some very pretty guys.

So with the final instalment (well, until they find some way of keeping the cash cow going), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, hitting cinemas on Friday (November 16th), I thought it was about time to present an appreciation of the men of Twilight. And we’re not just talking Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, as we’ve always got some nice pics of the likes of Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen), Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale), Lee Pace (Garrett), and the incredibly hunky Wolf Pack.

There is a smorgasbord of hotties in Twilight, as it seems only pretty people can become Vampires or Werewolves. So even if you won’t be queued up this weekend to find out what happens to Edward, Bella, Jacob and co. as they try to protect half-vampire child Renesmee, enjoy the images below. Click on the pics for larger versions and then tell us who you think if hottest in the comments below. [Read more…]

David Oyelowo Joins Lincoln

November 18, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Steven Spielberg’s biopic of Lincoln already has an incredibly impressive cast, and now it’s added another talented name to the ranks, British actor David Oyelowo. He joins Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Strathairn, Jackie Early Haley and loads more illustrious names.

However all those people previously cast were noticeably white, and seeing as the film will focus on the last few years of Abraham Lincoln’s life, when he was engaged in an enormous civil war largely over the issue of ending slavery, you’d think they might find some space for some black faces.

Now Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and The Help star Oyelowo has come onboard, according to Deadline. However it doesn’t sound like he’s going to have a particularly big role, as he’ll be playing cavalryman (we can already see the scene of Lincoln being inspired to carry on the fight by Oyelowo’s black cavalryman, going off to war to help his enslaved brothers).

Oyelowo is already currently filming the Tom Cruise flick One Shot, so he’s pretty busy at the moment, but has managed to slot in Spielberg’s film, shooting both roles concurrently. Lincoln will be in cinemas at the end of 2012.
