300: Rise Of An Empire (Blu-ray Review)

September 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Jack O'Connell, Lena Headey
Director: Noam Murro
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 29th 2014 (UK)

Ever since 300 became a surprise blockbuster they’ve been talking about a sequel. However it kept getting put back due to the fact comic creator Frank Miller hadn’t finished the graphic novel it was supposed to be based on. Eventually they decided to go ahead anyway, and so we have 300: Rise Of An Empire.

The movie is a sidequel to the earlier film, following the men of Athens before, during and after what happened to Gerard Butler and his Spartans (and in case you’re wondering, the shirtlessness and six pack abs are back, although the Athenians aren’t quite as hulking as the Spartans). Patrick Wilson Opens His Zipper Alongside Richard Dreyfuss & Lena Headey

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

patrick-wilsonPatrick Wilson will be showing us his Zipper, as Variety reports that he’s signed up for a movie going by that name, which is also due to star Richard Dreyfuss and Lena Headey.

The indie drama will see ‘Dreyfuss portray the role of political operator and kingmaker. Wilson is playing successful family man who presumably has it all until he risks losing everything due to his inability to fight off his obsessive temptation for other women’.

Mora Stephens is set to direct, and she’s also co-writing the script alongside Joel Viertel. Darren Aronofsky is producing. The movie has already started shooting in Louisiana.

Lena Headey & Jared Harris Join Mortal Instruments

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The fantasy adaptation The Mortal Instruments, now titled The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones to make it more franchise friendly, has added Lena Headey, Jared Harris, and newcomer Godfrey Gao to its growing cast, according to Deadline.

The adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s novel series is about Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a young woman living in New York City who learns she is a descendant of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Lena Headey is playing Jocelyn Fray, Jared Harris portrays Hodge Starkweather, and Godfrey Gao has signed on to play Magnus Bane. Others already cast include Jamie Campbell Bower, Jemima West, Robert Sheehan, Robert Maillet, and Kevin Durand.

The Mortal Instruments is a series of six young adult fantasy books, so there’s plenty of room for a franchise if the first movie works out. Principal photography will begin August 20, 2012 in Toronto, with Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) directing.

Dredd Trailer Arrives Online – Welcome to Mega City One

June 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After a brief teaser yesterday, the first full trailer for Dredd has arrived, and while the Judge himself looks pretty badass, the jury is still out on the movie itself. Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilisation on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. It’s a tough world, and one that’s hopefully going to be better than when Stallone was in charge. Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby and Domhnall Gleeson also star, with Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directing and Alex Garland on scripting duties (and it’s the last of these that should give us the most hope). The film’s due out September 7th.

Emily Watson, Anna Friel & Lena Headey To Be The Poisoners

April 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emily Watson is going from World War I in War Horse to World War II with the dark comedy The Poisoners, and she’s taking Anna Friel and Lena Headey along with her. Variety reports the three actresses will headline the film, which comes from Entrapment director Jon Amiel.

The movie is about a group of women who get left behind when their husbands go off to war. However they’re not completely lacking in male company, as they start to bond with come German POWs who have been brought to their area. German actors Ken Duken, Hanno Kofler and Alexander Scheer will be amongst those prisoners. However, why it’s called The Poisoners isn’t clear, although it is described as a dark comedy.

Shooting will start at the end of the summer.

Lena Headey Joins Ethan Hawke In Viglandia

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While I do think Ethan Hawke could sometimes do with taking supporting roles in higher profile films rather than trying to be always be a leading man, he does often pick interesting projects. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’d signed on to star in Viglandia for director James DeMonaco.

Now he’s got some company, as Variety reports that Lena Headey is set to co-star in the movie. Unfortunately the news of her casting has come with many details on the plot, which are being kept under wraps by DeMonaco and the guys at Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes (which is backing the film).

We do know that Viglandia will be a very low-budget futuristic thriller.

Headey is best known for 300, Games Of Thrones and The Sarah Connor Chronicles and will be seen soon as the villain in Dredd.
