Dumbo Teaser Trailer – Take a first look at Tim Burton’s live-action take on the classic

June 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Of all of Disney’s planned live-action versions of their animated classics, Dumbo has been one of the most unexpected and potentially risky. Now the first teaser has arrived, which is both intriguing and rather eerie, although may not be that good a guide to the tone of the actual film.

Synopsis: ‘Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Eva Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.

‘Walt Disney’s classic animated tale “Dumbo,” which opened Oct. 23, 1941, won an Oscar® for best scoring of a musical picture and was nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.”

‘The creative team includes cinematographer Ben Davis, BSC (“Doctor Strange,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Oscar® winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Dark Shadows”), four-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), editor Chris Lebenzon, ACE (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Maleficent”) and BAFTA Award-winning make-up designer Paul Gooch (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”).’

The film is due out March 2019. Take a look at the first teaser trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

Eva Green May Star In Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo Movie

March 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the more intriguing of Disney’s planned live-action adaptations is Dumbo, partly due to having Tim Burton in the directing chair, and partly due to the fact in the original animated movie, the main character couldn’t talk, even though various other animals could. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it on the big-screen, and exactly what the expanded role for the human characters will be.

One of those humans may be Eva Green, as Variety reports that she’s in early talks for the movie. She would play the female lead, although it’s not known exactly how she’ll fit into the story. Disney will be hoping they can close this deal, as they’ve been having trouble filling out the male roles, as deals with both Will Smith and Chris Pine have fallen through in the past couple of months (Tom Hanks was also rumoured, but he doesn’t seem involved anymore either).

The plot of the film will revolve both around the baby elephant with enormous ears, as well as some children that befriend him. Disney is hoping to shoot the movie this year, with a late 2018 or 2019 release expected.

Eva Green & Gemma Arterton Up For Lesbian-Themed Virginia Woolf Movie

February 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been revealed that Eva Green and Gemma Arterton have signed up to star Vita & Virginia, based on the true story of the love affair between Bloomsbury Group luminaries Virginia Woolf and VIta Sackville-West. Chanya Button (Burn, Burn, Burn) is set to direct the movie, working from a script by Dame Eileen Atkins (adapted from her 1992 play).

As reported by THR, the movie will follow the story of how, ‘Virginia Stephen married Leonard Woolf in 1912, and then met socialite and author Vita Sackville-West, wife of Harold Nicolson, in 1922. They began a sexual relationship that lasted nearly a decade, as shown in their various letters and diary entries. After their affair ended, they remained friends until Woolf’s death in 1941. Green will play Woolf while Arterton will play Sackville-West.’

While Woolf is now the more famous of the two, in their heyday Vita was just a well known, refusing to accept ‘a women’s role’ and becoming a prolific poet, novelist, journalist and even garden designer. She was also bisexual and Woolf was just one of her lovers, both male and female. Sackville-West is also renowned as the inspiration for Woolf’s eponymous protagonist in Orlando: A Biopgraphy.

It’s not clear when the film will shoot, but the movie is currently looking for buyers at the Berlin Film Festival.

300: Rise Of An Empire (Blu-ray Review)

September 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Jack O'Connell, Lena Headey
Director: Noam Murro
Running Time: 102 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 29th 2014 (UK)

Ever since 300 became a surprise blockbuster they’ve been talking about a sequel. However it kept getting put back due to the fact comic creator Frank Miller hadn’t finished the graphic novel it was supposed to be based on. Eventually they decided to go ahead anyway, and so we have 300: Rise Of An Empire.

The movie is a sidequel to the earlier film, following the men of Athens before, during and after what happened to Gerard Butler and his Spartans (and in case you’re wondering, the shirtlessness and six pack abs are back, although the Athenians aren’t quite as hulking as the Spartans). White Bird In A Blizzard Trailer – Gregg Araki directs Shailene Woodley in a new drama

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

white-bird-in-a-blizzard-posterThanks to Divergent and Fault In Our Stars, Shailene Woodley’s star has risen massively in the last few months. Now we get to take a look at another of her upcoming film, Gregg Araki’s White Bird In A Blizzard.

The film is based on Laura Kasischke’s 1999 novel about a young woman who loses control of her life when her mother disappears. Woodley plays the main role, with the likes of Eva Green (as the mother), Angela Bassett, Shiloh Fernandez, Christopher Meloni and Gabourey Sidibe co-starring.

Gregg Araki was at the forefront of the Queer Cinema movement of the 1990s, and indeed all his movies since then have had an LGBT tint. However things will be less overtly gay with his latest movie.

The movie debuted at Sundance to pretty good notices, and will his US cinemas next month. There’s no UK date set yet though. [Read more…]

New Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For Poster Shows Off Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Co.

June 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sin-City-2-quad-PosterWith the marketing for Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For it really does seem that they’re trying to suggest that if you liked the first one you’ll be getting more of the same for the second. Indeed if you didn’t read the full title, you could easily think this was a poster for the first movie – except this time the comic book noir world will be in 3D.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it did give us a sense of deja vu.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Nine years after the box-office smash SIN CITY, the stories of the notorious city dwellers resume in the hugely anticipated sequel SIN CITY 2: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Boasting an all-star cast led by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), Eva Green (Dark Shadows), Juno Temple (Killer Joe), Jessica Alba (Sin City, Fantastic Four), Bruce Willis (Looper) and Josh Brolin (Old Boy), this next installment promises to take audiences on a visceral ride into the twisted minds of Frank Miller’s unforgettable characters.

‘Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning “Sin City” graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY 2: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY 2: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow-up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 ground-breaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.’

The film’s due to hit UK cinemas on 25th August 2014 (which oddly enough is a Monday).
