Dumbo Teaser Trailer – Take a first look at Tim Burton’s live-action take on the classic

June 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Of all of Disney’s planned live-action versions of their animated classics, Dumbo has been one of the most unexpected and potentially risky. Now the first teaser has arrived, which is both intriguing and rather eerie, although may not be that good a guide to the tone of the actual film.

Synopsis: ‘Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Eva Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.

‘Walt Disney’s classic animated tale “Dumbo,” which opened Oct. 23, 1941, won an Oscar® for best scoring of a musical picture and was nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.”

‘The creative team includes cinematographer Ben Davis, BSC (“Doctor Strange,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Oscar® winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Dark Shadows”), four-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), editor Chris Lebenzon, ACE (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Maleficent”) and BAFTA Award-winning make-up designer Paul Gooch (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”).’

The film is due out March 2019. Take a look at the first teaser trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

Gay Short Film Showcase: Curmudgeons – Danny DeVito tackles late-in-life gay love

October 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

curmudgeons-danny-de-vitoNot many gay-themed shorts can boast a well-known name in the cast, but Curmudgeons can, as it stars and was directed by Danny DeVito. The short has know been released online via Vimeo, and you can take a look at it below.

The film follows Jackie (DeVito) and Ralphie (David Margulies) two old men who’ve fallen in love late in life. However, these grumpy guys can’t be together any longer, as Jackie breaks his hip and is separated from his boyfriend in a different assisted-living facility (something quite a few older gay couples face, as there is still a disparity in many places between how straight and gay couple are treated). The relationship shocks their families in this ‘potty-mouthed, but endearing, comedy’.

Sadly, since the short was filmed, Marguilies has died, but DeVito says he did see the film beforehand. De Vito told Vimeo, “David and I [were] very close – if you know what I mean – for a very long time. The first time we worked together was 1968 or ‘69. We [did] off-Broadway together, he directed me in a couple plays in New York, and he was a dear friend. So I obviously pushed myself into a role too; I had to give myself a part. We had a good time doing it. We did love each other. Really genuinely.

The actor/director adds, “When I was finished with the film, I had it on my computer and I brought it up to David in Manhattan. He was very, very ill. He was struggling – fighting for his life basically – and he got to see it. It was a great experience. It was just about finished, it didn’t have the music in it yet, but everything else was there. He passed away shortly after in January.”

Take a look at Curmudgeons below. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. And check out more gay short films and web series here. [Read more…]

New Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Trailer

December 7, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first promos and pics for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax made the movie look a bit, well, rubbish, but this new trailer is a whole lot more fun, and suggests it’ll be worth a peek when it hits UK cinemas on July 27th, 2012. Brought to life by the guys behind Despicable Me, the animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, a grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. Danny DeVito lends his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler. Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Ashley, the girl of Ted’s dreams. Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

A Look Inside: The Lorax

November 29, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not out until next Summer, but Universal wants us to get acquainted with The Lorax, probably because despite coming from the mind of Dr. Seuss, he’s not quite as well known over here in the UK as he is in the US. Now a new featurette has arrived to help us get to know the small furball. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. Dr Seuss’s The Lorax Trailer

October 31, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m presuming The Lorax is a lot more famous in the US that he is in the UK, because this trailer does seem to assume we already know all about him, but it doesn’t spoil the enjoyment of stepping into this very colourful world, brought to life by the guys behind Despicable Me. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams.
