Ben Foster & Kirsten Dunst Join Red Light Winter

August 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ben Foster and Kirsten Dunst have signed on to star in Red Light Winter for writer-director Adam Rapp, with Foster replacing Mark Ruffalo, who’s been attached to the film for a while but has had to drop out due to scheduling issues.

The movie is about two New York City friends holidaying in Amsterdam. Their friendship is tested when they both fall for the same prostitute (Kirsten Dunst). Katherine Waterston also stars as a woman who also has a romantic past with both men. Billy Crudup was previously attached to star as one of the friends, an up and coming writer, but like Ruffalo he’s left the project and his part remains vacant for now.

Adam Rapp is directing from a screenplay he adapted from his own play, and is hoping to start shooting in December or January. (Source: Variety)

Cee Lo Green On For Can A Song Save Your Life?

June 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cee Lo Green is going to the movies, as it’s been announced that he’s joined the cast of Can A Song Save Your Life?, from Once director John Carney. He joins a cast that also includes Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine and Catherine Keener.

In the film, seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, Gretta (Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend (Levine) move to New York to pursue their passion for music. She’s heartbroken when he dumps her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, leaving her all on her own. Left to sleep on the couch of an old friend, Gretta reluctantly agrees to play an open mic night before departing the city for home. Her world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his-luck record producer (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity – they may be each other’s last chance to turn their lives around.

Recruiting street musicians, amateurs, and professionals borrowed from the posse of Troublegum (Green), a hip-hop artist he discovered years ago, Dan throws himself into producing for Gretta. Fueled by his enthusiasm, Gretta begins to develop confidence as a performer and songwriter. Dan hopes that his new direction will repair his marriage with his estranged wife Miriam (Keener) and reclaim the respect of his daughter Violet (Steinfeld). Somewhere between friendship and their love of music, the two strangers strike a chord that captures the hearts of everyone around them, proving that every great story has its own soundtrack.

Production starts on July 2nd in New York City

The Avengers New York Tribeca Screening Red Carpet Video

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Stars from the summer’s most hotly anticipated film celebrated imagination at the New York premiere of ‘The Avengers’. Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders and Tom Hiddleston reflected on their experience of making the film and bringing the comic book series to the big screen. Bombay Sapphire announces the launch of their Imagination Series Filmmakers Competition at Tribeca Film Festival this week, hosting the exclusive after-parties of Emily Blunt’s ‘Your Sister’s Sister’, Chris Rock’s ‘2 Days In New York’ and the closing premiere, summer blockbuster ‘The Avengers’.

To celebrate filmmakers around the world, Bombay Sapphire, in association with Tribeca Film Festival, is offering budding filmmakers the chance to make their own short film, using their imagination to interpret Oscar-winner Geoffrey Fletcher’s short film script. From the 26th of April, budding filmmakers can view the script at www.imaginationseries.com and can submit their interpretation of the Geoffrey’s script on this site from the 8th of May 2012. A global judging panel, including Geoffrey Fletcher and industry leaders put together by the Tribeca Film Festival, will select five winners from a shortlist of entries who will then go on to produce and direct their own individual films and view these at a star-studded international premiere early 2013.

Will Hulk Smash Back Into Cinemas In 2015?

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Bruce Banner/Hulk hogging several of the most talked about moments in The Avengers, it’s little wonder there’s already speculation about whether Marvel will bring the character back in a standalone film.

After a bit of digging around, several sites are suggesting it’s likely, with Collider having chatted to actor Mark Ruffalo, who said he signed one of Marvel’s standard six-movie contracts, suggesting he’ll stick with the character for a while to come (and had such fun with The Avengers, he doesn’t mind that at all).

However the firmest news comes from Marvel consumer products chief Paul Gitter, who told Forbes (via The Playlist), that if the popularity of Hulk continues to grow the company will spin him off to a stand-alone TV program next year, supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015.

It’s still early days though, as recently Marvel Chief Kevin Feige was insistent there were no Hulk movie plans, saying “I mean, this was the third appearance of Hulk and everything that we had and were going for, we put in to Hulk’s appearance in ‘Avengers.’ So, I love that people are saying that and are feeling that way about Hulk, but mission accomplished at this point.”

However, he might not have been expecting the audience reaction to the character in The Avengers. We’ll have to wait and see whether we do get yet another Hulk flick.

Mark Ruffalo Set To Be A Foxcatcher

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Foxcatcher has been in the works for years, and while it moved a bit closer to the screen last year when Steve Carell and Channing Tatum signed on to star, it still haven’t gone in front of the camera. Now it’s taken one step closer, as The Avengers star Mark Ruffalo has joined the cast.

In the based on a true story tale, Ruffalo will play Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, with the film charting his relationship with John du Pont (Carell), who shot and killed him in 1996. John du Pont was the heir to the Du Pont chemical empire, but was also a paranoid schizophrenic. Schultz was a longtime friend to du Pont, who repeatedly tried to get him help before du Pont killed him. Channing Tatum will play Schultz’s younger brother, Mark, who was also an Olympic wrestler.

Production is scheduled to begin this October in Pittsburgh, with Bennett Miller (Moneyball) directing.

Extra Avengers Scene Being Filmed Now?

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble as us Brits are supposed to call it) having already received its world premiere, you’d have thought that it would be way too late to shoot any more footage for the film, but if Robert Downey Jr. is to be believed, there’s just one more scene to be added that was only filmed last night!

/Film reports on this, saying Robert Downey Jr. let it slip at press conference for the film, saying yesterday that there was one more scene they were going to shoot once the junket was completed. The star added that he wasn’t kidding.

There’s been some uncertainty over whether this was actually happening, with Marvel President Kevin Fiege refusing to be drawn on whether it was true, director Joss Whedon apparently denying it, but Mark Ruffalo confirming it was happening, although he hadn’t been told what they were shooting.

As a result there’s been a lot of speculation, with most people assuming it will be a post-credits scene. While there is a mid-credit scene already in the movie, which apparently hints at possible Avenges sequels, there’s no post-credits sequence in the prints seen so far. That’s despite the fact these have become a bit of a theme in recent Marvel movies, hinting at where the interconnected universe is going next.

Rumours have speculated over whether it will be the introduction of a new character – some have said it will be Edgar Wright’s Ant Man, although that’s already been denied – while other say it may just be a scene hinting at the plot of the next Marvel movie, Iron Man 3. At the moment it’s all up in the air, and we’ll have to wait and see whether there is a new scene when the film opens on April 26th.

Avengers Gets A New Name And A New Poster To Prove It

February 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel’s The Avengers is no more, in the UK at least, as with less than two months before its release, the movie has a new title. So what’s it going to be called? Well, distributor Disney has revealed it’ll be known as Marvel Avengers Assemble in Britain, and they’ve released the poster above to prove it.

An Avengers assemble trailer is promised tomorrow afternoon, which will hopefully be packed with cool footage. The new title seems to have been adopted because casual moviegoers were wondering if it was another remake of 1960s Avengers TV show.

Just one question though, why in the poster is Chris Evans about 25ft tall?

Here’s the amended official synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Marvel Avengers Assemble”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
