Matthew McConaughey Offered Lead In Chris Nolan’s Interstellar

It was only a couple of weeks ago that it was officially announced that interstellar would be director Christopher Nolan’s next movie, but he’s already moving fast to find his lead actor. Deadline reports that he has offered the main male role to Matthew McConaughey.

There is no deal in place at this time, but the actor would portray a character named Cooper if he does sign on. As always with Nolan, there aren’t too many plot details available, but the story centres on an interstellar voyage that pushes the boundaries of scientific knowledge.

The project’s roots go back to 2006, when Steven Spielberg hired Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan’s younger brother, to write the screenplay. The idea sprung from noted physicist Kip S. Thorne’s theory that wormholes actually exist and can be used for time travel.

Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay, which merges his own original ideas with the script that his brother Jonathan Nolan wrote. A release date of November 7th, 2014 has been set.

Denis O’Hare And Bradford Cox Head For Dallas Buyer’s Club

November 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Denis O’Hare

The Dallas Buyer’s Club is already shooting (we had the first set shots of Jared Leto playing his cross-dressing role a few days again), but that doesn’t mean the complete cast has been announced. The likes of Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, Steve Zahn, Dallas Roberts and Jennifer Garner are already on the New Orleans set and now THR reports that they’ll be joined by Griffin Dunne, Denis O’Hare and Bradford Cox.

The based on a true story movie is about Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. When he’s given just six months to live, he becomes frustrated with the lack of medical options in the US, due to the fact drugs have to be extensively tested by the FDA before they become available to patients, he begins smuggling alternative drugs into the country from Mexico. Jared Leto will portray Rayon, a gay, cross-dressing AIDS patient Woodruff befriends at the hospital.

Dunne and out actor Denis O’Hare are both set to play doctors who get involved with Woodruff, while Cox (who’s best known as a musician, who sings with Deerhunter and worked on the score for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are) will play Leto’s lover. Jean Marc Vallee directs.

Magic Mike (DVD)

November 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Cody Horn, Channing Tatum
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 105 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 26th 2012

While there was a lot of interest in Magic Mike before it was released in cinemas, I don’t think many people suspected that this $7 million budgeted movie would pull in over $100 million at the US box office, or get quite so many people so excited. There’s little doubt much of the interest in the film is that while women are routinely sexualised in cinemas, its rarer for a film to come along that offers the girls and gay guys something to get hot under the collar about, with male characters unabashedly served up for their sexual delectation. Jared Leto Cross Dresses In First Dallas Buyer’s Club Set Photos

November 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Jared Leto was set to play a flamboyant, cross-dressing gay character in The Dallas Buyer’s Club. Now the movie has started shooting and Just Jared has gotten hold of the first shots from the set, showing Leto in character, along with a very skinny Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.

I can’t say it’s Jared’s best look ever, but it certainly shows off his cheekbones and he’s oddly reminiscent of Cillian Murphy in Breakfast On Pluto (although that may just be because of the furry jacket).

The movie is about Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. After becoming frustrated with the lack of medical options in the US, due to the fact drugs have to be extensively tested by the FDA before they become available to patients, he begins smuggling alternative drugs into the country from Mexico. Jared Leto will portray Rayon, another AIDS patient Woodruff befriends at the hospital.

It’s also been revealed via Variety that that the wonderful Steve Zahn and Dallas Roberts have joined the cast as it’s started shooting. The Grey’s Roberts will play Woodruff’s defence attorney David Wayne, who fought for the FDA to allow AIDS patients to get potentially life-saving drugs. Zahn is set to be a Dallas policeman who turns a blind eye to Woodruff’s smuggling, as he sympathises with his predicament after having dealt with his father’s Alzheimer’s.

Jean-Marc Vallée is directing from a screenplay by Melisa Wallack and Craig Borten. Click on the pics below for a better look at McConaughey, Garner and Leto, or head over to Just Jared for a few more images.

Jared Leto Going Flamboyantly Gay For Dallas Buyer’s Club

November 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

As he’s been concentrating on being a bit of a douche in his band 30 Seconds To Mars, Jared Leto hasn’t been doing a lot of acting in the last few years. His last role was in the indie flick Mr. Nobody in 2009. However now he’s set to return to the big screen in The Dallas Buyers Club, playing a flamboyantly gay cross-dresser, according to Variety.

The movie is about Ron Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. Gael García Bernal was previously in talks for the showy cross-dressing role, but a deal was never made. Jennifer Garner also stars.

Jean-Marc Vallée is directing from a screenplay by Melisa Wallack and Craig Borten, with production scheduled to begin next week in New Orleans. Leto can fit it in as 30 Seconds to Mars have recently wrapped up a world tour.

Jennifer Garner Joins AIDS Drama The Dallas Buyers Club

November 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Dallas Buyers Club has been in the works for a long time, but in the last few months its been inching ever closer to the screen, with Matthew McConaughey feeling it was near enough that he’s lost huge amounts of weight to play the title role. Now Deadline reports Jennifer Garner is close to signing on for the film, taking a role that was once destined for Hilary Swank.

The drama is based on the true story of Ron Woodroff, an AIDS patient who before the advent of modern treatments, began smuggling drugs into the US that had shown great promise in helping people with HIV/AIDS. The Texas electrician then clashed with the Food and Drug Administration, which wanted to keep the drugs out of the country until they’d been fully licensed – even though that meant some people would die in the meantime.

The production is also close to signing the important role of a cross-dresser, but no further information has been revealed. Gael Garcia Bernal will also star in Jean-Marc Vallee’s film, with production due to begin on November 11th in New Orleans.

Killer Joe (DVD)

October 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Emile Hirsch, Matthew McConaughey, Thomas Haden Church, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon
Director: William Friedkin
Running Time: 103 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 22nd 2012

I can easily imagine a lot of people loving Killer Joe due to its dark, twisty-turny plot, while a lot of others will also thrill to the pitch black humour. However there are a lot who will find the whole thing rather nasty, cruel and repellent, so if you think you might be one of those people, you’ll probably be best to avoid this. However if you do like thrillers that go to the most sordid of places, you may well love this.

Chris (Emile Hirsch) is in need of cash and so embroils his brother, Ansel (Thomas Haden Church), in a plot to kill their heartless mother. They’re going to hire a lawman called Joe (Matthew McConaughey) who moonlights as a hired killer. It’s going to cost $25,000, but Chris has heard his mum has a $50,000 life insurance policy that will pay out to his sister, Dottie (Juno Temple). Joe wants to be paid upfront, but agrees he’ll have Dottie as a kind of retainer. However nobody has thought things out very well and things soon spiral out of control, especially when they realise just what a mean character Joe is. [Read more…]

Gael Garcia Bernal Getting Showily Effeminate For The Dallas Buyers Club

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew McConaughey has been looking scarily skinny for the past few months in preparation for playing AIDS patient Ron Woodroff in The Dallas Buyers Club. Now he’s got some more company as THR reports that Gael García Bernal is negotiating to appear in Jean-Marc Vallée’s (The Young Victoria) movie.

While Woodroff was straight, Gael García Bernal will play a ‘showy role’ as an effeminate member of the Dallas Buyers Club.

Shooting will start this November in New Orleans.

Matthew McConaughey Up For Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street

August 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew McConaughey has had a good year with well received turns in Magic Mike and Killer Joe, and now the actor has joined the cast of The Wolf of Wall Street for director Martin Scorsese, according to Variety.

The actor will portray Mark Hanna, the mentor of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort. The based-on-a-true-story movie is about Belfort’s meteoric rise, where he made making millions selling phony stocks before he was arrested and sentenced to 22 months in prison for securities fraud. Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Jon Favreau also star.

Martin Scorsese is directing from a screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, adapted from Jordan Belfort’s memoir. Shooting will begin later this month in New York City.

The Paperboy Trailer – Zac Efron dances in his underpants!

August 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lee Daniel’s The Paperboy debuted at Cannes, but it’s only now we’re getting a trailer, ahead of its US release in October (no UK date is yet set). The film is about a directionless young man (Zac Efron) who helps his reporter brother (Matthew McConaughey) investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row (John Cusack), and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence. It should be out later this year. And as promised in the title of those post, Zac Efron dances in his undies (and therefore it perhaps shouldn’t be too surprising that Lee Daniels is gay).
