Two Mothers Trailer – Naomi Watts and Robin Wright want to sleep with each other’s sons

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A movie about two women who want to sleep with each other’s sons sounds like it’s either going to be something sleazy or some sort of grossout comedy, but Two Mothers is actually based on a novella by Nobel laureate Doris Lessing.

The movie sees Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two women who’ve been friends for decades and live next to one another on an Aussie beach. However their idyllic but lonely lives get a little more complicated when the women start eyeing each others sons – Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville – with more than maternal affection.

Anne Fontaine’s film certainly looks intriguing, although whether it can handle its tricky subject matter is yet to be seen.

Jude Law Heads For The Queen of the Desert

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Queen Of The Desert has slowly been making its may to the screen, with various people flirting with it over the years. Now it’s looking for buyers at the American Film Market, and hopes that the addition of Jude Law to the cast will help attract buyers. He joins the already attached Naomi Watts and Robert Pattinson in this period drama, which will be written and directed by Werner Herzog.

The true story film stars Naomi Watts as Gertrude Bell, an explorer, writer, archeologist and attaché for the British Empire, who is credited with helping to catalyse the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th Century. She’s been described as the female Lawrence of Arabia, although the film will also include the real T.E. Lawrence, played by Pattinson. There’s no news on who Law will be.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Morocco in March 2013. (Source: THR)

New The Impossible Trailer – Ewan McGregor & Naomi Watts try to survive a tsunami

August 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Impossible will be trying to compete for awards, with its US release set for December 21st, just in time to qualify for the 2013 Oscars, with the movie reaching UK shores on January 4th. Here’s the synopsis, ‘Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth. As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her. Based on a true story, The Impossible is the unforgettable account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time. But the true-life terror is tempered by the unexpected displays of compassion, courage and simple kindness that Maria and her family encounter during the darkest hours of their lives. Both epic and intimate, devastating and uplifting, The Impossible is a journey to the core of the human hear.’

Robert Pattinson Joins Queen of the Desert (sadly not a Priscilla sequel)

August 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Robert Pattinson is busy awkwardly doing press for the US release of Cosmopolis and trying to avoid questions about him and Kristen Stewart. He’s also looking to the future as Variety reports he has signed on to star in Queen of the Desert for writer-director Werner Herzog.

Naomi Watts is attached to star as British writer Gertrude Bell in this biopic. The story chronicles her entire life from being one of the first women to graduate from Oxford to her adventures as a writer, explorer, cartographer, archaeologist, and political attaché.

Pattinson will portray T.E. Lawrence, the British officer whose story served as the basis for director David Lean’s 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia. Lawrence and Bell were longtime friends, who both helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq. Filming is scheduled to begin this autumn.

First Official Pic Of Naomi Watts In Diana

July 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With production starting on Diana (previously known as Caught In Flight), images of Naomi Watts on the set have popped up online, but now the first official shot has been released, showing that the actress is a dead ringer for the princess.

Here’s the press release announcing the start of shooting: London, July 3 2012: Ecosse Films (NOWHERE BOY, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, MRS BROWN, BECOMING JANE) has today announced that their highly anticipated ‘Diana’ project has this week commenced shooting.

Leading the cast is British-born Academy®-Award nominated actress Naomi Watts (J. EDGAR, FAIR GAME, 21 GRAMS) as the eponymous and iconic Princess.

DIANA – previously reported under its working title of CAUGHT IN FLIGHT – will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Academy®-Award nominated for DOWNFALL), and is based on a screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys. Joining Naomi Watts will be fellow Brits Naveen Andrews as Dr Hasnat Khan, Douglas Hodge and Juliet Stevenson.

From the set of the film, Ms.Watts said: “I’m excited and honoured to be playing the role of a truly remarkable woman, who had such a positive and profound impact in so many ways.”

DIANA is a compelling portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales during the final two years of her life. It charts how finding true personal happiness allowed her to achieve her defining successes, as she evolved into a major international campaigner and humanitarian.

Locations for the 9-week shoot will include Croatia, Mozambique, as well as various locations in and around London and the South of England.

Speaking today, Ecosse Films’ Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae stated: “We are very excited to be working with such a talented and creative team both in front of and behind the camera. Everyone’s aim is to produce a truly insightful and compassionate study of Diana’s later years.”

International sales on DIANA are being handled by Embankment Films, with all major international territories pre-sold (ex USA.)

DIANA is produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse and will be co-produced by Matt Delargy, James Saynor (also of Ecosse) and Paul Ritchie. Executive producers are Tim Haslam and Mark Woolley. Journalist and documentary filmmaker Kate Snell is acting as Associate Producer.

J. Edgar (DVD)

June 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas
Director: Clint Eastwood
Running Time: 130 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 11th, 2012

J. Edgar is a movie that’s perhaps better off on DVD and Blu-ray than it was in cinemas. The reason for that is that it’s a rather narratively complex beast and so takes at least a couple of viewing to properly unravel. Its problem is that the first viewing is likely to seem rather dull to many, so they’re less likely to want to revisit it.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays J. Edgar Hoover, who for nearly half a century oversaw the FBI from when it was a fledgling organisation, though the depression and era of the gangster, onto the red scare and beyond. The film sees Hoover as an old man dictating his memoirs, while in flashback we see his earlier days and how he quickly climbed to the top of the Bureau Of Investigation (as it was initially known) and used the likes of the Lindbergh Baby kidnapping to increase the power of the organisation. The Impossible Trailer

April 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Boxing Day tsunami was such a huge event that film has often seemed unsure how to deal with it. There was an exceptional sequence in Hereafter, but the first major movie to deal head-on with it will come this year with The Impossible, from The Orphanage director Juan Antonio Bayona. The first full trailer has now appeared, and while it’s dubbed in Spanish, it introduces us to Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts as a mother and father who are on holiday in Thailand with their kids when the tsunami hits. Separated from one another, they must find each other amongst the debris. It doesn’t seem it’ll be an easy watch, but it should hit cinemas this autumn.

Dream House (DVD)

April 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Marton Csokas
Director: Jim Sheridan
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: April 16th, 2012

If you read a lot of the reviews of Dream House on its cinema release, you might be expecting the film to be an absolute stinker. Pretty much disowned by its cast and director, and pilloried by the critics, the film’s not had a lot of luck. However, while it’s certainly not a great thriller, it’s a lot better than you might expect.

Daniel Craig plays Will Atenton, who moves into a seemingly idyllic small-town home with his wife (Rachel Weisz) and two daughters. However their apparently perfect new life begins to fracture when they discover their house was the site of a family massacre five years before. Teens hold séances in the basement and there are rumours that the killer may have returned. And then there’s the next door neighbour, Ann (Naomi Watts), who appears to know more than she’s letting on to. [Read more…]

Naomi Watts Set To Play Princess Diana

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m sure the Daily Express is up in arms today, as it’s been announced that Naomi Watts – who’s an Aussie but was actually born in Britain – will play the role of Princess Diana in the upcoming movie Caught in Flight.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel ( Downfall), and based on the screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys, production will begin in the UK later this year. Caught in Flight will look at Diana during the last two years of her life. It charts how finding true personal happiness for the first time allowed her to achieve her defining successes evolving into a major international campaigner and humanitarian. So basically it sounds like it’s going to continue the attempts to turn her into a saint.

Naomi Watts comments “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role – Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”

J. Edgar

January 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Judi Dench
Director: Clint Eastwood
Running Time: 137 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 20th, 2012

There’s an old adage on the standup comedy circuit that the only thing worse than complete silence to greet your routine is a couple of stifled chuckles. This, they say, indicates that not only has your material failed, it has done so in such a way that the audience’s only response is to laugh at its failure.

Had Clint Eastwood, the director of J.Edgar attended the screening of his film that I did, he might have had a similar feeling. The last thing one would expect from a serious political biopic is moments of unintentional hilarity, but from the minute Leonardo DiCaprio appears on screen in an unconvincing elderly prosthetic, that’s exactly what you get.
