The Newsroom – Season 2 (DVD Review)

Running Time: 470 mins

Aaron Sorkin is perhaps the best known writer working in entertainment today. He’s part of a very select group of people where an entire show can be sold purely on the fact he created it. He’s renowned for taking on the issues of the modern world, dissecting and criticising the problems he’s sees with America and the things that are taking it away from being the glorious nation he believes it is at heart. As a result he’s often been criticised by those who have a different view of the world – usually a more sharply right wing view – and that was certainly true of the first season of The Newsroom. Mortdecai Trailer – Johnny Depp turns art-dealer and part time rogue

August 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mortdecai-logoLast time Johnny Depp went on a global in The Tourist, it didn’t work out too well. He’ll be hoping for better from Mortdecai, based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s 1970s book, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.

Now the first trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

‘MORTDECAI is directed by David Koepp and stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum and Paul Bettany.

‘MORTDECAI is released in UK cinemas on January 30th 2015.’ [Read more…]

Olivia Munn Up To Join Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai

August 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Olivia-MunnFor a while it’s seemed that Hollywood has known Olivia Munn is a talent that could break out, but other than TV’s The Newsroom and small roles in the likes of Magic Mike, they haven’t quite known what to do with her. Know she’s scored a high profile role, as Deadline reports that she is in talks to join the cast of Mortdecai for director David Koepp.

Johnny Depp is attached to play the title role, an art dealer who searches for a painting rumoured to contain access to a secret bank account filled with Nazi gold. Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor joined the cast last month, although no details were given for their characters. Olivia Munn’s role is also being kept under wraps.

David Koepp is directing from a screenplay by Eric Aronson (The Lone Ranger), adapted from Kyril Bonfiglioli’s novel, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, which is the fourth in his series of Mortdecai books. It should start shooting later this year.

The Newsroom – Season 1 (Blu-ray)

July 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn
Director: Various
Running Time: 600 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 22nd 2013

Aaron Sorkin’s TV shows are loved by some and loathed by others. While some have adored the likes of Sports Night, The West Wing and Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, others have found them pretentious and too concerned with politics – and more particularly promulgating a left wing philosophy that has had some US conservatives frothing at the mouth. The Babymakers (DVD)

September 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Paul Schneider, Olivia Munn, Kevin Hefferman, Nat Faxon, Constance Zimmer
Director: Jay Chandrasekhar
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 1st 2012

Someone must think the Broken Lizard Comedy Troupe are good, as they’re allowed to keep making films. After the likes of Super Troopers, Beerfeest and Broken Lizard’s Stand Up comes The Babymakers. It’s got a talented cast and a decent premise, but unfortunately it screws things up from beginning to end.

Tommy (Paul Schneider) and Audrey (Olivia Munn) are a married couple who decide they want to have a baby. There’s a problem though, as for some reason Tommy’s sperm is rubbish and more interested in swimming in circles than inseminating eggs. This wasn’t always true though, as to pay for his wife’s engagement he got paid to donate some healthy sperm. [Read more…]

Magic Mike (Cinema)

June 30, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, Olivia Munn, Channing Tatum
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 11th, 2012

When I first saw the advert I thought, ‘Oh no, it’s Showgirls meets The Full Monty’, however I was perplexed somewhat that Oscar winning director Stephen Soderbegh was at the helm. He’s delivered some brilliant films over the years, including Traffic, Erin Brockovich and Solaris, although his work of recent has not been as impressive, namely Haywire and Contagion.

However, with Magic Mike, he has given us is a crowd pleasing, energetic, realistic behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous but shady lives of the stripping community, in a tight, well scripted gem of a movie. [Read more…]
