Guy Pearce Joins Iron Man 3 As Geneticist Aldrich Killian

April 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Iron Man 3 due to start shooting next month, you’d have expected to hear more about new cast members by now, but it appears with all eyes on The Avengers, things are only starting to happen now. The film did sign up Ben Kingsley a couple weeks ago and has now added another new actor, as Variety reports Guy Pearce is in final negotiations to join the cast.

The actor will portray geneticist Aldrich Killian, who created the Extremis technology which will play an important part in the sequel. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) adopts the technology after Killian sells it to some terrorists. The story will follow the spread of a virus through nanotechnology, which Tony Stark tries to stop. Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), and Don Cheadle (James Rhodes) will reprise their roles from Iron Man 2, with Kingsley portraying the villain.

Production is scheduled to start next month in North Carolina, with Shane Black directing from a screenplay by Drew Pearce.

Extra Avengers Scene Being Filmed Now?

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble as us Brits are supposed to call it) having already received its world premiere, you’d have thought that it would be way too late to shoot any more footage for the film, but if Robert Downey Jr. is to be believed, there’s just one more scene to be added that was only filmed last night!

/Film reports on this, saying Robert Downey Jr. let it slip at press conference for the film, saying yesterday that there was one more scene they were going to shoot once the junket was completed. The star added that he wasn’t kidding.

There’s been some uncertainty over whether this was actually happening, with Marvel President Kevin Fiege refusing to be drawn on whether it was true, director Joss Whedon apparently denying it, but Mark Ruffalo confirming it was happening, although he hadn’t been told what they were shooting.

As a result there’s been a lot of speculation, with most people assuming it will be a post-credits scene. While there is a mid-credit scene already in the movie, which apparently hints at possible Avenges sequels, there’s no post-credits sequence in the prints seen so far. That’s despite the fact these have become a bit of a theme in recent Marvel movies, hinting at where the interconnected universe is going next.

Rumours have speculated over whether it will be the introduction of a new character – some have said it will be Edgar Wright’s Ant Man, although that’s already been denied – while other say it may just be a scene hinting at the plot of the next Marvel movie, Iron Man 3. At the moment it’s all up in the air, and we’ll have to wait and see whether there is a new scene when the film opens on April 26th.

Ben Kingsley In Talks For Villainous Iron Man 3 Role

April 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Poor old Ben Kingsley. Once upon a time he was Gandhi, but in more recent years his main stock in trade has been in shady characters. It appears he’ll soon have one more bad guy to add to his CV, as Variety reports that Ben Kingsley is in final negotiations to take on a villainous roles in Iron Man 3 for director Shane Black.

It isn’t known which character Ben Kingsley will play, but sources are adamant that the Oscar-winning actor will not be playing fan favourite villain Mandarin (which had been the initial assumption). Whoever the character is, they’re somehow involved in nanobot technology and they’ll be working against Tony Stark in the new movie.

Robert Downey Jr. will once again portray Iron Man, and Scarlett Johansson is expected to return as The Black Widow. The plot is rumored to revolve around the use of nanobots to replicate the super serum used to turn Steve Rogers into Captain America, something that’s likely to interest Stark, as his father was intimately involved with that project. Shooting is expected to kick off next month.

Avengers Gets A New Name And A New Poster To Prove It

February 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel’s The Avengers is no more, in the UK at least, as with less than two months before its release, the movie has a new title. So what’s it going to be called? Well, distributor Disney has revealed it’ll be known as Marvel Avengers Assemble in Britain, and they’ve released the poster above to prove it.

An Avengers assemble trailer is promised tomorrow afternoon, which will hopefully be packed with cool footage. The new title seems to have been adopted because casual moviegoers were wondering if it was another remake of 1960s Avengers TV show.

Just one question though, why in the poster is Chris Evans about 25ft tall?

Here’s the amended official synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Marvel Avengers Assemble”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Five New Pics From The Avengers Released

January 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Five new images from the Avengers have surface via Marvel.com, which if nothing else shows that while the scarring on Nick Fury’s face has been rather underplayed when we’ve seen it before, but it appears it’s going to be much more prominent in The Avenger. Indeed, the spider-webbing scars in the pic above have already led some to wonder if they’re going to play a role in the movie somehow.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what The Avengers is about, here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in summer 2012.’ The team his the UK on April 27th.

Tim Burton & Downey Jr. Circling Pinocchio

January 7, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

There have been various Pinocchio projects mooted in the last few years, including one Guilermo Del Toro has been working on, but now another major version is in the works, with THR reporting that Tim Burton and Robert Downey Jr. are currently circling it.

The live action project would see Robert Downey Jr. as Geppetto, a woodcarver who creates a puppet that comes to life only to dream of becoming a real boy. This version will follow Geppetto’s quest to find his missing puppet, rather than focussing on the puppet itself. Bryan Fuller is responsible for the screenplay.

Neither Tim Burton nor Robert Downey Jr. have a deal in place for the Warner Bros. movie, but it’s believed both are extremely interested in making the film. Warner Bros. wants to go into production soon, so it may end up being the Burton’s next project after Dark Shadows. However we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (Cinema)

December 13, 2011 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Jude Law, Jared Harris, Noomi Rapace, Stephen Fry, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Guy Ritchie
Running Time: 128 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 16th, 2011

This sequel has a lot of expectations to live up to. The first Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes amassed over $524 million at the worldwide box office and remains in the Top 100 grossing films of all time.

As you’d hope, in Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows the original bromance is back with a vengeance! Guy Ritchie has delivered once again (after a few turkeys mind!), as the on-screen chemistry between Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr. is superb – reminiscent of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The supporting cast is also tremendous in their roles, although some of the parts are just too small. Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade is most notably missing screen time – blink and you’ll miss him – as is the excellent Geraldine James as the long-suffering Mrs Hudson (though I can’t help but think of her as one of the prostitutes from Band Of Gold!).
