Most people in the UK won’t know what Jem And The Holograms is, but Universal is hoping to change that before it’s pre-Christmas release, and to start off we’re getting a trailer. It’s better known in the US, where the 80s carton and toys still has a great cult following.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
‘Directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), the musical adventure stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. Jem and the Holograms, based on the iconic Hasbro animated TV series, is written by Ryan Landels and produced by Chu, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun for SB Projects, Bennett Schneir, and Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis of Hasbro Studios.’ [Read more…]
For those of us outside the US, a Jem And The Holograms movie seems an odd idea, as the cartoon and toy line never had the impact in many countries that it did in the US. However with those who grew up with the 80s show now in positions of power in Hollywood, a movie is on the way, and

The Step Up franchise is back this summer with Step Up 5: All. It isn’t just trying to entice us into theatres by bringing together many of the stars of earlier instalments, but releasing a new poster and trailer that promises plenty of hot guy shirtlessness.
Step Up 4: Miami Heat (aka Step Up: Revolution) hit DVD & Blu-ray yesterday, and while it might not be the greatest film ever made, it does feature the buffness that is Ryan Guzman (we wouldn’t kick co-star Misha Gabriel out of bed either).
