Ryan Reynolds Sought For Highlander Reboot

May 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems that if Lionsgate gets its way, they’ve found their star the planned reboot of Highlander, as Variety reports that they want Ryan Reynolds for the film and everyone involved is trying to make it happen.

It is unclear at this time if an actual offer has been made, but the actor is reportedly in talks for this Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed fantasy adventure that follows an immortal Scottish swordsman who must sever the head of a brutal barbarian in order to become the last of his kind.

At the moment it is just one of many projects the actor is currently considering, but both sides are trying to pull things together.

Paul Giamatti & Samuel L. Jackson Going Turbo

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Samuel L. Jackson and Paul Giamatti both have form on animated movies, Jackson on the likes of The Incredibles and Giamatti in Robots and The Ant Bully, and now they’re going CG again as THR reports they’ve joined the voice cast of Dreamworks Animation’s Turbo.

The animated film follows an ordinary garden snail with an impossible dream to become the fastest snail in the world. His obsession with speed and all things fast has made him an oddity and outsider in the slow and cautious snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his careful older brother. When he is one day imbued with the power of amazing speed, he embarks on a quest that will see him racing in the Indianapolis 500.

Also signing up are Michael Peña, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith and Snoop Dogg, who join the previously cast Ryan Reynolds, who’ll voice the main character. David Soren is directing and writing from his own original concept, with the movie due out July, 2013.

The Vow Romances Its Way To The Top Of The US Box Office

February 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The US box office can be an incredibly fickle beast that tough to predict. Many were expecting that with four major films opening against one another, they might harm each others chances. Instead all of them did well, marking only the second time in history four films have opened north of $20 million on the same weekend.

It was The Vow that really overperformed, doubling some predictions to wind up with a stellar $41 million. Many have suggested a lack of straightforward romances in the last few months and the fact it’s almost Valentine’s Day conspired to ensure The Vow got an opening that outpaced the likes of Dear John and The Notebook.

The film many had expected to lead the box office chart, Safe House, settled for second spot with $39.3 million, which was still well ahead of what many thought it might end up with. Indeed it’s more than Ryan Reynolds’ last movie, The Change Up, made in its entire North American run, and marks Denzel Washington’s second biggest opener ever behind American gangster.

Third on the chart with $27.7 million was Journey 2, which outpaced its predecessor’s $21 million opening, and nearly doubled what many had thought it would make in its first three days. The final new entry in the $20 million plus club was Star War: The Phantom Menace 3D, which took $23 million. It’s a solid start, especially considering many see it as the weakest Star Wars movie, but it’s well behind what the re-release of The Lion King made last autumn. We’ll have to see whether George Lucas thinks it’s enough to justify converting the other Star Wars flicks.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of February 10th-12th.

Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
The Vow $41.7 $41.7
Safe House $39.3 $39.3
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island $27.5 $27.5
Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D $23.0 $23.0
Chronicle $12.3 $40.1
The Woman In Black $10.3 $35.4
The Grey $5.0 $42.8
Big Miracle $3.9 $13.2
The Descendants $3.5 $70.7
Underworld Awakening $2.5 $58.9

Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Reynolds Team For Art Biopic Big Eyes

January 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon could be a good on-screen pairing. The duo have now signed to star together in Big Eyes for producer Tim Burton and writer/directors Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, according to THR.

The movie is based on the fascinating true story of artists Margaret Keane and Walter Keane, whose bizarre paintings featuring large eyed characters were beloved across the world in the 1960s. However, Margaret later claimed she was the true artist behind all the big-eyed paintings, and that the rather pompous and self-obsessed Walter (who spoke about himself in the third person and compared himself to Rembrandt and El Greco) stole all the credit for her work. It set off a long running dispute between the two which ended in court battles.

Here’s what Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski had to say about the casting, “We are ecstatic to have this dream cast for our dream project. Walter is a larger-than-life antihero – charming, funny, dangerous, and a little crazy. Ryan will knock it out of the park. As for Reese, she will be perfect as Margaret – soulful, decent, transforming from vulnerability to learning to fight for herself.”

Production is scheduled to begin sometime this spring.

First Image & Poster From Safe House

November 3, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems Denzel Washington is still as much bigger deal that Ryan Reynolds, as the first image and poster for Safe House have arrived, neither of which seem to care much that Reynolds in also in the movie. There’s little doubt they’re doing a good job of making Washington look moody!

In Safe House, a CIA-operated safe house is targeted by a group of bad guys, and the facility’s house-sitter is tasked with the dangerous job of moving the criminal who is being hidden there to another secure location, without getting either of them killed.
