With a late January UK release looming (and mid-February in the US), a new trailer and set of character posters, which you can see above and below.

The film tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Kite (Blu-ray Review)

October 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, India Eisley, Callan McAuliffe, Carl Beukes, Deon Lotz
Director: Ralph Ziman
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 13th 2014 (UK)

Some films manage to take a low budget and use it to their advantage, finding interesting and innovative ways to get around the fact they don’t have much cash and still deliver a full and complete film experience. Sadly Kite is not one of those films. It thinks it is, but it really isn’t.

The movie follows young Sawa (India Eisley) who lives in a scummy, corrupt post-apocalyptic future where she ruthlessly tries to hunt down the people who killed her parents, helped by her father’s ex-partner, Karl (Samuel L. Jackson). Things begin to change when she meets someone she knew as a child – although she can’t remember him due to the fact that the drugs she takes to help her be a single-minded and very successful killer blur her memory of the past. Kingsman: The Secret Service Trailer – Plus a poster for Matthew Vaughn’s Colin Firth spy adventure

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew Vaughn left X-Men behind partly so he could finally make his long-gestating adaptation of The Secret Service, based on Mark Millar’s comic The Secret Service.

Now it has a new name – Kingsman: The Secret Service – suggesting they’re already viewing it as a potential franchise, along with a poster, pics and the first trailer.

It’s essentially a particularly posh James Bond (in the form of Colin Firth) teaming up with someone much younger (newcomer Taron Egerton) and on a very different part of the social ladder, to take on an evil threat. And they’ve invited the likes of Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson along for the ride.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class”), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.’

The film’s due out this autumn.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Cinema)

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson
Director: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo
Running Time: 136 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: March 26th 2014 (UK)

It’s a sign of the times that our superheroes these days are not quite all macho and invincibility, rather plagued with doubts and worries – Batman as Hamlet for example. Captain America seems to be no exception – this actioner has as many scenes with him frowning and worrying over America’s place in the world as zooming around fighting baddies. It’s still not exactly complex – at one point his pal asks, “Which ones are the bad guys” – and he answers, “If they’re shooting at you they’re the bad guys.” [Read more…]

Anthony Mackie’s Falcon Gets A Captain America: The Winter Soldier Poster

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-poster5
A few days ago we got Captain America character posters featuring Steve Roger, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Robert Redford’s Alexander Pierce. Now it’s time for Anthony Mackie’s Falcon to get his own poster. And he’s certainly looking cool.

Sam Wilson, aka Falcon is an ex-military paratrooper who works with veterans in Washington, D.C. Secretly trained by the military in aerial combat using a specially designed wing pack, Falcon becomes an indispensable ally when he teams up with Captain America and Black Widow to run a danger-filled race to halt an impending threat in its tracks.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is produced by Kevin Feige, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Hayley Atwell, with Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.’

It’s out in the UK on March 26th, 2014 and a week later in the US.

You can take a look at all five character posters below. [Read more…]

February 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Before the Super Bowl, it was suggested there wouldn’t be that many movie ads, but in the end plenty of studio decided to flog their wares during the big game, which has resulted in a bit of a treat for movie fans. Kite Trailer & Extended Clip – Samuel L. Jackson mentors a teen killer

January 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

2014 is going to be the year of Sam Jackson helping out keen killers, before he gets back to superheroes next year with Captain America 2 and Avengers Assemble. We just posted the first pic of him in Barely Lethal, where he’s mentoring Hailee Steinfeld, and now we have a trailer and clip for Kite, where he’s dealing with India Eisley’s assassin.

The film is about a young woman (Eisley) who lives in a failed nation state after the financial collapse, where a corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When her policeman father is killed, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of his ex-partner. In the original anime the film is based, she is initially ‘helped’ by the two corrupt cops on the case of the double homicide, Akai and Kanie, who take her in as guardians and end up turning her into an assassin.

As you can see from the trailer, it’s a heavily stylised movie, which will be in cinemas later this year. [Read more…]

First Look At Hailee Steinfeld & Samuel L. Jackson In Barely Lethal

January 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first image from the upcoming Barely Lethal has arrived, featuring Hailee Steinfeld and barely-lethal-preview-pic1Samuel L. Jackson has arrived, which you can see above and below. The images come via EW, which describes the film as ‘Mean Girls with guns’, although we’ll have to wait and see whether that’s even close to true.

Hoping to live the life of a “normal” teenager, she discovers that being popular, dating, and fitting in isn’t as easy as she thought. Complicating matters is ‘Victoria’ (Jessica Alba), her former handler and current nemesis, who enlists rival teen Special Agent ‘Heather’ (Sophie Turner) to go undercover at her high school and capture her. Academy Award® nominee Samuel L. Jackson portrays Megan’s mentor, ‘Hardman.’’

Chris Evans & Sebastian Stan Get New Captain America: The Winter Soldier Pics

December 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-empire1
Marvel is gearing up for another big year in 2014 with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. Now Empire has debuted four images from the former, giving us a great look at Chris Evans standing around looking all heroic, as well as Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford and Sebastian Stan.

Redford is coming in as someone high up S.H.I.E.L.D., while Stan was of course Bucky Barnes in the first film, but here returns, in modified form, as the titular Winter Soldier.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.’

The movie’s out in April.
