Final Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Trailer – ABBA-tastic?

May 8, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While it’s derided by many, Mamma Mia! is one of the most successful movie musicals ever made, grossing over $600 million. For a time it was the highest grossing movie ever in the UK, and the highest grossing movie directed by a woman worldwide.

As a result it’s getting a sequel that brings back most of the original cast – although as the trailer suggests there may have been a significant death – as well as taking us into the past and just how Meryl Streep’s character ended up having three men who could have been the father of her child.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ten years after Mamma Mia! The Movie grossed more than $600 million around the world, you are invited to return to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi in an all-new original musical based on the songs of ABBA. With the film’s original cast returning and new additions including Lily James (Cinderella, Baby Driver), the musical comedy will open in UK cinemas on 20th July 2018.

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical.

‘Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, writes and directs the sequel from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.

‘Reprising their roles from Mamma Mia! The Movie are Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper reunite as Sophie and Sky, while Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Oscar® winner Colin Firth return to play Sophie’s three possible dads: Sam, Bill and Harry.

‘As the film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present, James will play the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadway’s Beautiful). Young Sam will be played by Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), while Young Bill is Josh Dylan (Allied) and Young Harry is Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends).’

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will be released in UK cinemas on 20th July 2018. [Read more…]

The Railway Man (Blu-ray)

May 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, Nicole Kidman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Stellan Skarsgard
Director: Jonathan Teplitzky
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 5th 2014 (UK)

There is undoubtedly an incredible true story behind The Railway Man, but while this movie certainly lets you know that, as a film in its own right it’s rather spotty.

The movie follows two periods in the life of Eric Lomax. As a middle-aged man (Colin Firth) he meets and falls in love with Patti (Nicole Kidman), however their marital bliss is severely hampered by the fact he suffers severely from what would now be called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nymphomaniac – Volumes 1&2 (DVD)

April 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia Labeouf, Jamie Bell, Mia Goth
Director: Lars Von Trier
Running Time: 232 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: April 28th 2014

This is the Gone With The Wind of movies with ‘real’ sex in them, at least in terms of the fact that Nymphomaniac has roughly the same running time.

As you may have guessed though, in most ways they’re very different movies – in Gone With The Wind Scarlett O’Hara vows never to hungry again, while in Nymphomaniac Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) vows never to go without sex again. [Read more…]

New Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 Trailer – Is there more to Lars Von Trier’s movie than sex?

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After a lot of buzz and interest, it’s not too long now until audiences will get to take a look at Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, with the release of Part 1 of the two part film. While most people have concentrated on the success, the largely positive reviews have suggested there’s more to the movie than that, and this trailer gives us a feel for that, as it certainly doesn’t bother with any of the hardcore shots the movie contains.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin also star. It should arrive in the UK in March. [Read more…]

Nymphomaniac Trailer – Take a NSFW look at Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell & more in Lars Von Trier’s next

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nymphomaniac-poster2
For the first time in his career, Lars Von Trier has given up final cut for Nymphomaniac, largely because the version he’s happy with is 5 1/2 hours long, and even he realised that was never going to be commercially released. The last we heard there was talk of cutting it down to two 2-hour films, which is how it’ll apparently be coming (although there’s still a chance VOn Trier’s butt-numbing version will appear one day at festivals, apparently).

They’ve also dropped plans for hardcore and softcore versions, as there will now just be a the one with full-on sex, but distributors around the globe will be free to blur out whatever bits they reckon are two rude. We get a taste of that rudeness in the trailer.

Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin also star. It should arrive in the UK next March.

Take a look at the new poster above and the rude trailer, but beware as it is indeed NSFW. [Read more…]

New Trailer & Character Posters Of Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine & Nicole Kidman In The Railway Man Debut

November 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Railway-Man-character-poster2
The Railway Man is hoping to put in a strong awards run this winter. We’ve already seen it and we reckon it has a great shot at bagging a few awards. Now the movie has debuted a quintet of character posters, showing off Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada in the movie.

It’s certainly a different look for Jeremy Irvine, who looks very different in glasses.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II.  Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. A powerful tale of survival, love and redemption, THE RAILWAY MAN stars Academy Award-winners Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, with Jeremy Irvine and Stellan Skarsgård.’

It reaches UK cinemas on January 1st 2014.
