Marjorie Prime Trailer – Jon Hamm goes holographic as the recreation of a dead man

July 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was a fair amount of interest in Marjorie Prime when it debuted at Sundance. Although some didn’t like it, most were intrigued by the premise and how it was handled.

So what’s it about? Here’s the synopsis: ‘Eighty-six-year-old Marjorie spends her final, ailing days with a computerized version of her deceased husband. With the intent to recount their life together, Marjorie’s “Prime” relies on the information from her and her kin to develop a more complex understanding of his history. As their interactions deepen, the family begins to develop ever diverging recounts of their lives, drawn into the chance to reconstruct the often painful past.

‘Built around exceptional performances from a veteran cast, Marjorie Prime shines a light on an often-obscured corner in the world of artificial intelligence and its interactions with mortality. Bringing us robustly into the future, Michael Almaryeda’s poetic film forces us to face the question—If we had the opportunity, how would we choose to rebuild the past, and what would we decide to forget?’

The great cast includes Jon Hamm, Geena Davis, Tim Robbins and Lois Smith. Take a look at the trailer below. The film is due out in the US on August 18th. [Read more…]

June 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you thought we’d dealt with sex addiction on screen with Choke and Shame, you were wrong, as it’s now getting a slightly comic treatment from The Kids Are All Right director Stuart Blumberg.

Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Gad, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Carol Caine, Patrick Fugit and Alecia Moore (aka Pink) star in the movie, which is about group of characters who are all suffering from sex addiction. Meeting regularly for support sessions, each of them struggles with their own personal demons as it effects their personal lives, including their families, friends, and significant others.

The film debuted at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but it won’t arrive in US cinemas until September 20th. No UK date is currently set.

Tobey Maguire & Kristen Wiig Join Will Ferrell’s The Spoils Of Babylon

June 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tobey-maguireIt’s not often a TV series can boast a cast including Tim Robbins, Kristen Wiig, Michael Sheen, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Steve Tom and Will Ferrell, but The Spoils Of Babylon can. The series comes from Ferrell, Adam McKay, and several other Funny or Die guys, with the show set to air on IFC in the US.

The six-parter will follow a fake book written by fake author Eric Jonrosh (Ferrell). The story will span multiple generations in the oil industry, which allows it to follows plenty of stories, allowing all sorts of famous faces to pop up.

IFC says, ‘The Spoils of Babylon, a century-spanning saga, chronicles the sexy and dramatic lives of the Morehouse family, led by Jonas Morehouse (Robbins), his daughter Cynthia (Wiig) and her adopted brother Devon (Maguire) who made their fortune in the oil business. The series takes viewers from the oil fields of Texas to boardrooms in New York City, through war torn battlefields and velvet-sheeted bedrooms.

‘Cynthia and Devon’s unbridled and taboo passion for one another cannot be prevented. Add in Cynthia’s evil son Winston (Osment), her put upon husband Chet Halner (Sheen), and Devon’s new love interest Dixie Mellonworth (Alba), and the booze, the pills, more passion, more pills and the heartache, and you have a mercurial potboiler. Then add in illegal arms deals, international espionage, the Shah of Iran (Ferrell), and two US Army Generals (Kilmer, Steve Tom) and it begins to overflow with boiling liquid in a pot on a hot stove that is operational.’

Production has already commenced with a 2014 premiere planned.

Will Forte and Tim Robbins Take On Switch, Replacing Dennis Quaid and Ty Burrell

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-forteThe Jackie Brown prequel Switch is having a bit of a Switch of its own, as actors Will Forte and Tim Robbins have signed up to replace Ty Burrell and Dennis Quaid in the movie, who’ve had to step away due to scheduling issues, according to Variety.

The film, based on Elmore Leonard’s novel, is set 15 years before the events in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, following Louis Gara (John Hawkes) and Ordell Robbie (Yasiin Bey) who join forces to kidnap Mickey (Jennifer Aniston) , the wife of a real estate magnate (Tim Robbins). Their plan goes awry when the husband refuses to pay the ransom, leading Mickey to use her abductors for revenge.

Will Forte is set to play Marshall Taylor, a member of Mickey’s country club who witnesses the kidnapping and has a serious crush on Mickey. Isla Fisher is also onboard to play a younger version of Melanie, originally played by Bridget Fonda in Jackie Brown.

Daniel Schechter is directing from his own adapted screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin next month.
