Jake McDorman In Talks For American Sniper

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jake-mcdormanJake McDorman is a face many will recognise from the likes of Greek, the US Shameless and Live Free Or Die Hard, often seeming like he was about to break big but not yet getting there. Now he’s in talks for a big role, as he may join Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, starring alongside Bradley Cooper, Cory Hardrict and Sienna Miller are also attached.

The action movie is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Cooper), a Texas native who racked up the most confirmed sniper kills of anyone in US military history. Tragically though, he was killed by a fellow veteran at a shooting range last February (it’s not clear if that will be included in the movie).

If he signs on, McDorman will be Ryan ‘Biggles’ Job, who was the sniper’s colleague during his time in the military. Several real Navy SEALS are also expected to co-star in the film, including Kyle’s really life friend, Kevin ‘Dauber’ Lacz.

Clint Eastwood is directing from a script provided by Jason Hall. Filming will start next month in Morocco.

First Pic From Clint Eastwood’s Musical Jersey Boys

January 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jersey-boys-preview-pic1For a long time Clint Eastwood was planning to head back to the world of musical with a new version of A Star Is Born, but after casting issues and delays he’s instead turned to a movie take on the hit show Jersey, about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Now the first image from the movie has arrived, featuring featuring John Lloyd Young (Frankie Valli), Erich Bergen (Bob Gaudio), Vincent Piazza (Tommy DeVito) and Michael Lomenda (Nick Massi). They’re not the most famous of names, but most have had experience playing the same roles on Broadway.

The movie is due out this summer.

Clint Eastwood In Talks To Helm American Sniper, Replacing Steven Spielberg

August 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

clint-eastwoodEarlier today, rumours emerged that Clint Eastwood may be thinking about replacing Steven Spielberg as the director of American Sniper, with THR reporting that Clint is indeed in talks for the movie, which has Bradley Cooper attached to write and direct.

Spielberg left earlier this month as he and the studio couldn’t come to agreement on a budget that he felt would do justice to the story he wanted to tell. Clint on the other hand is famed for sticking to fairly low budgets.

The action movie is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, a Texas native who racked up the most confirmed sniper kills of anyone in US military history. Tragically though, he was killed by a fellow veteran at a shooting range last February (it’s not clear if that will be included in the movie).

Filming had tentatively been scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2014, but they may change if Clint signs on, as he’s currently gearing up to shoot the musical Jersey Boys. He does work quickly, so it is possible he can fit in a shoot for American Sniper early next year too.

Christopher Walken Signs On For Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christopher-walkenLast week it was revealed that Clint Eastwood was looking at lesser known names with musical theatre pedigrees for the main roles in his film version of the hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys. However it looks like there’ll be some well known names surrounding them, as Deadline reports that Christopher Walken has signed on to appear in the movie.

The musical tells the true story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. It particularly explores the young band’s allegiance to a code of honour, which they learned on the streets of their New Jersey and which got them through their toughest life challenges.

Christopher Walken will be portraying Angelo ‘Gyp’ DeCarlo, who played a pivotal role in the band’s success and steered them away for the grip of organised crime. Vincent Piazza, John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen and Michael Lomenda are set to plays the band.

Shooting is set to begin in September in Los Angeles.

Clint Eastwood Eyes Musical Theatre Stars For Jersey Boys Cast

July 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vincent Piazza

Vincent Piazza

Clint Eastwood really wants to make a musical. When plans to make a new version of A Star Is Born were put on the back burner, he moved onto a film version of the Broadway hit, Jersey Boys. Now he’s eyeing a cast, with Variety reporting that he’s mainly looking at actors who may not be well known, but have a strong musical theatre background.

Frontrunners at the moment are John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Boardwalk Empire star Vincent Piazza for the musical biopic of Frankie Valli and his group The Four Seasons. No offers have gone out yet, but Young would play Valli, Bergen would be Bob Gaudio, Piazza is being eyed for Tommy Devito, while Lomenda would play Nick Massi.

All the actors except Piazza have appeared in the stage version of Jersey Boys, so they should certainly know what they’re doing.

Warner Bros has apparently okayed the actors, so offers will be going out soon.

Clint Eastwood May Direct Jersey Boys Next

April 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

clint-eastwoodClint Eastwood loves music and is seems he really wants to make a music-based project next. He has been planning to do a remake of A Star Is Born, but that got delayed when Beyoncé dropped out of the lead role. Now THR reports he’s in early talks to direct the musical Jersey Boys, taking over from the previously attached Jon Favreau was.

Jersey Boys was picked up by Warner Bros. last year, but just two months after picking it up, they put the project into turnaround in November. GK Films was in talks with both Fox and Paramount, but now that Clint Eastwood may sign on, the musical may be heading back to the director’s home studio of Warner Bros. after all.

A Star Is Born is still in the works, but they’re having problems casting. Esperanza Spalding is currently the top choice for the female lead, but the main problem is finding a male lead, with several notable stars passing, including, most recently, Sean Penn. Perhaps nobody wants to play an alcoholic star whose fame is on the wane. If Clint Eastwood does sign a deal for Jersey Boys, he will make that project next, with A Star Is Born following directly after.

Jersey Boys is based on the popular Broadway musical about the life of singer Frankie Valli and his group The Four Seasons. John Logan (Hugo) wrote the screenplay, based on the 2005 musical that took home four Tony Awards.

Beyonce Drops Out Of A Star Is Born

October 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For several years a remake of A Star Is Born has been in the works, which has been delayed and put back as various directors and male stars have come and gone, but the one constant has been that Beyonce would play the female lead. Indeed, producers stuck with her when she herself caused one of the delays, after she got pregnant.

However Beyonce has now dropped out of the movie, due to scheduling conflicts, according to Variety. Insiders say that Beyoncé Knowles’ schedule is too packed as it stands, and since the studio has not issued a production start date yet, she was forced to step away.

However the movie isn’t dead, as Clint Eastwood is still attached to direct from a screenplay by Will Fetters. The director has recently shown interest in Bradley Cooper for the male lead, although no official offer has been issued yet. Actors such as Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith were previously approached to star, but no deals were ever made.

The itself, which has already been made three time by Hollywood, most famously with Judy Garland in 1954 and Barbra Streisand in 1976, is about a rising singer who falls for an aging, alcoholic artist.

Bradley Cooper Joins Bad Blood and Trouble

August 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Before he returns to the wolf pack this Autumn to make The Hangover Part III, Bradley Cooper is making sure his future is all planned out with a few projects set for after that sequel has wrapped. Variety reports that he is currently in talks to star in Bad Blood and Trouble for director J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) and he is also considering an offer to join the cast of Clint Eastwood’s long-delayed A Star Is Born remake.

Bad Blood and Trouble is set in the 1950s and centres on a Miami private detective (Bradley Cooper) who is in love with a married woman. Complications arise when her husband is targeted by a criminal group. Production will begin in the second half of 2013 in London.

It isn’t known what role he is considering in A Star Is Born, which already has Beyoncé Knowles attached to star. He would seems a bit young for the main part of an aging star whose career is slipping away from him and drowns himself in alcohol, but it’s possible that’s who he’ll play.

Neither of these projects will come for a whiel though, as after The Hangover Part III, the actor will start production on American Bullshit for director David O. Russell. There may be enough of a window between that project and Bad Blood and Trouble to squeeze in A Star Is Born.

J. Edgar (DVD)

June 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas
Director: Clint Eastwood
Running Time: 130 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 11th, 2012

J. Edgar is a movie that’s perhaps better off on DVD and Blu-ray than it was in cinemas. The reason for that is that it’s a rather narratively complex beast and so takes at least a couple of viewing to properly unravel. Its problem is that the first viewing is likely to seem rather dull to many, so they’re less likely to want to revisit it.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays J. Edgar Hoover, who for nearly half a century oversaw the FBI from when it was a fledgling organisation, though the depression and era of the gangster, onto the red scare and beyond. The film sees Hoover as an old man dictating his memoirs, while in flashback we see his earlier days and how he quickly climbed to the top of the Bureau Of Investigation (as it was initially known) and used the likes of the Lindbergh Baby kidnapping to increase the power of the organisation. Clint Eastwood Wants Tom Cruise For A Star Is Born

March 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a lot of problems getting a new remake of A Star Is Born off the ground, but when Clint Eastwood took over as director, it seemed things would finally slot into place. Then Beyonce, who’s long been attached to the starring role, fell pregnant and things were delayed again.

Now that Beyonce has given birth, Clint is once more trying to put things together, with Variety reporting that the director is eyeing Tom Cruise to star in the musical project. It is said that Cruise is showing some interest in role, at least partly because it would give him a chance to work with Clint Eastwood. If he does sign on, Tom will play an aging, alcoholic musician who falls for a young singer (Beyonce) as he tries to make her famous, with her star rising as his declines. Actors such as Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Hugh Jackman were once considered for the part, but have since moved on.

No official talks between Cruise and Warner Bros have taken place as yet, and a lot will depend of scheduling. At the moment, Cruise is due to start shooting Horizons next week, and then moves to We Mortals Are directly after that, so fitting in A Star Is Born may be difficult.
