Chris Pine Ben Foster & Jeff Bridges Team For Comancheria

August 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-pineChris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges are all getting together for a film that sounds a little bit western, a little bit heist thriller and a little bit drama. ThePlaylist reports the actors have teamed up for the already shooting Comancheria.

The movie is about, ‘Two brothers (presumably Pine and Foster), one an ex-con and the other a divorced father of two kids, face the foreclosure of their family’s West Texas farm. They team for a skillfully-calculated bank robbing spree that puts them on a collision course with two Texas Rangers determined to take them down.

David Mackenzie, who made the acclaimed prison drama Starred Up, will helm the movie, from a script by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario).

Starred Up (DVD Review)

August 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jack O'Connell, Rupert Friend, Ben Mendelsohn, Sam Spruell, Anthony Welsh
Director: David Mackenzie
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: August 4th 2014 (UK)

Eric (Jack O’Connell) is transferred from a young offenders institution to adult prison, and while he feels as if he can be a king in this new place, it soon becomes clear that he’s been thrust somewhere far more brutal and dangerous than he’s used to. The young man knows that his father, Neville (Ben Mendelsohn) is in the prison, and is hoping for a reunion.

It’s an awkward reunion though, as while Nev is keen to protect his boy, he is a violent, dangerous man and the two have very little common ground, especially due to the anger Eric barely seems to realise he harbours against his father. [Read more…]

Perfect Sense (DVD)

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Eva Green, Denis Lawson, Ewen Bremner
Director: David Mackenzie
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 30th, 2012

Perfect Sense has a problem, which isn’t really anything to do with the movie. It’s to do with the fact that we like to pigeonhole film and so that when something comes along that doesn’t fit into any boxes, it tends to fall by the wayside. In the case of Perfect Sense the issue is that the plot synopsis makes it sound like a sci-fi flick, but it’s actually far from that. In reality it’s a rather touching, slightly arty romance, shot through with existentialist musings, but it’s a difficult sell, simply because it doesn’t sound like what it is.

Here’s the plot: Susan (Evan Green) is an epidemiologist, who’s asked to investigate a mysterious illness where people are losing their sense of taste. As this spreads around the globe, Susan meets chef Michael (Ewan McGregor), and the two begin an affair. However losing your sense of taste is only the beginning, and the strange illness continues to its course, slowly stripping people of their senses one by one. [Read more…]
