Terrence Howard Joins Hugh Jackman & Jake Gyllenhaal In Prisoners

December 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The cast for Prisoners is getting incredibly good, with Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, and Maria Bello already attached to the film, and they’ve now been joined by Terrence Howard, according to Deadline.

Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) is set to direct, with Hugh Jackman as a distraught father who takes the law into his own hands to find his kidnapped daughter, when he think the authorities aren’t doing enough. He clashes with a big city detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is assigned to the case.

Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) wrote the screenplay, with filming on the movie set to begin in February. An autumn 2013 release is being eyed.

He clashes with Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal), a big city cop who has been assigned to the case. At the moment not much is known about Paul Dano’s character.

Denis Villeneuve is directing from a Black Listed screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband), with shooting set to begin in early 2013.

Melissa Leo Will Take Prisoners Alongside Hugh Jackman

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s always worth adding Melissa Leo to the cast of a film, as she’s a remarkably adaptable actress who can morph into virtually any role asked of her and give a great performance (as proved by her Oscar win for The Fighter). Denis Villeneuve must agree, as Variety reports he’s signed her up for Prisoners, which will start shooting in Australia early next year.

She join Hugh Jackman in the movie, who plays a carpenter who learns that his young daughter and best friend have been kidnapped. When the police are no use, he decides to take the law into his own hands and get justice vigilante style. The only thing standing in his way is the detective who is working the case. Unfortunately there’s no info on who Leo will play.

The script, which has been in development for a couple of years, was written by Aaron Guzikowki, who also wrote the Mark Wahlberg action film Contraband. The current plan is to release Prisoners during the autumn of 2013.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is An Enemy

March 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Some people would already consider Jake Gyllenhaal an enemy, as the actor manages to bring out a strange and rather inexplicable sense of loathing in some. We like him here though! And now Jake’s in talks to star in an film called An Enemy for director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies).

Jake Gyllenhaal will play a downtrodden history teacher who discovers a man who looks exactly like him on a rented DVD. The teacher decides to seek out his double, and ends up turning both their lives upside down. Jake Gyllenhaal will portray both roles, which are described as “dark and edgy” despite the premise almost sounding like a comedy.

Denis Villeneuve will direct from a screenplay by Javier Gullón, which is adapted from the Jose Saramango novel, The Double. Shooting will start relatively soon, as Villeneuve wants to shoot An Enemy before he starts production on Prisoners, which stars Hugh Jackman.

Hugh Jackman Taking Prisoners

March 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Prisoners is one of those projects that lots of people in Hollywood seems excited about, but for various reasons it’s ended up being passed from director to director and actor to actor and never actually going into production.

Leo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender, Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg have all been attached at one point or another, while the likes of Bryan Singer and Antoine Fuqua have flirted with directing. The latest to come on board to helm is Incendies director Denis Villeneuve, and now THR reports that Hugh Jackman is attached to star.

Aaron Guzikowski’s much praised script follows a small-town man whose daughter is kidnapped and he responds in vigilante fashion by imprisoning a neighbour he suspects committed the crime. Hopefully with Jackman on board it’ll actually happen (the original plan should have seen Prisoners in cinemas Autumn 2010!), although with Hugh busy on Les Miserables and Wolverine, it’s not certain when the film might shoot.
