Jeremy Piven Joins Tom Cruise In Edge of Tomorrow

August 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-pivenJust before Comic Con, Tom Cruise’ upcoming sci-fi changed from being All You Need Is Kill to Edge Of Tomorrow. Now it’s edged further to the bid screen with the news, via Deadline, that Jeremy Piven has joined the cast.

It’s a bit of a surprise he’s been added so late as the film has been shooting for a while in the UK. However as Jeremy was already in Britain shooting a new series of Mr. Selfridge, they’ve managed to slot him in. He will apparently play a character called Col. Walter Marx.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

‘But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.’

It’s due out June 2014.

Two New Edge Of Tomorrow Posters Debut Show Off Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt

July 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

edge-of-tomorrow-poster2The first footage from Edge Of Tomorrow (previously known as All You Need Is Kill) screened at Comic-Con over the weekend, and unfortunately while we don’t have that, we do have two new posters from the movie, showing us Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in the movie. Take a look at them above and below.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

All You Need Is Kill Becomes Edge Of Tomorrow, With A New Poster For The Tom Cruise Flick

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

edge-of-tomorrow-poster1
Just yesterday we posted a new image from the Tom Cruise sci-fi All You Need Is Kill, but what hadn’t been revealed at the time was that a new title had already been decided on- Edge Of Tomorrow. Many had expected a change, as the original name was a rather awkward gaming in-joke, even if it was the title of the graphic novel it’s based on).

Warner Bros. has also revealed that the film is a last-minute addition to Comic-Con, and they’ll debut the first footage from the film on Saturday. It’s believed it’ll be part of Warner Bros./Legendary Entertainment’s presentation, which also includes Godzilla, Seventh Son, 300: Rise of an Empire, Gravity, and The Lego Movie).

And to show it really does have a new name, the studio has released the first poster, which you can see above.

Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt Go To War In A New All You Need Is Kill Image

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

all-you-need-is-kill-preview-pic2
All You Need Is Kill is definitely an intriguing movie, and while we won’t get to see it until June 2014, a new image has now been released, via EW, showing us Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt on the battlefield.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

‘But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.’

Marianne Jean-Baptiste Joins Tom Cruise In All You Need Is Kill

November 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adding Marianne Jean-Baptiste to the cast of a film or TV show is always a good idea, and now that Without A Trace is over, she’s free to bring her skills to a range of projects, even if Hollywood doesn’t often seem to use her as much as they should.

However now she’s been added to the cast of All You Need Is Kill, which has already started shooting with Tom Cruise in the lead role and Doug Liman directing. She will play a scientist called Dr. Whittle, although it’s not known exactly how she’ll play into the plot.

As you can see, there’s plenty of room for a scientist to play into that, not least helping explain to Cage is reliving the same day over and over again. A March 2014 release is currently set for the film.

First Look At Tom Cruise In All You Need Is Kill

November 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise is loving sci-fi at the moment, as he’s recently finished shooting Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion and now he’s headed to the set of Doug Liman’s All You Need Is Kill, and to prove it the first shot from the movie has shown up online (via CBM). As you can see, Cruise is having a bit of an explosion issue and is wearing some sort of haute couture mech suit.

We’re presuming the suit is what many have said will be the future of warfare, where soldiers where mechanical appendanges that make them stronger and fast (basically partway to being Iron Man).

The movie hits cinemas March 14th, 2014.

Tom Hardy May Scale Everest For Doug Liman

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Dark Knight Rises’ star Tom Hardy is in early talks to star in Everest for Sony Pictures and director Doug Liman, according to Deadline. If a deal is finalised, the actor will portray legendary explorer George Mallory.

The story is an adaptation of Jeffrey Archer’s non-fiction book Paths of Glory, which is all about explorer George Mallory’s attempt to get into the record books as the first man to reach the top of Mount Everest. The movie is all about Mallory’s obsession with the mountain, as well as his rivalry with fellow climber George Finch.

Mallory and his climbing partner Sandy Irvine failed in two attempts to scale the mountain in 1921 and 1922. They were spotted near the summit on their third attempt in 1924 but nobody knows if they actually made it to the top, as they died on the mountain. Their remains were discovered in 1999 by Mark Anker.

Sheldon Turner is handling the screenplay. Shooting will begin after Doug Liman wraps on All You Need Is Kill, starring Tom Cruise.

Bill Paxton In Talks To Join Cruise For All You Need Is Kill

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise has been attached to All You Need Is Kill for over a year, with Emily Blunt joining him a few months ago. However it’s only now things have moved close enough to production that they’re starting to fill out the cast, with THR reporting that Bill Paxton is in talks for the film.

The film is based on a graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and tells the story of a solider (Cruise) who is forced to keep reliving the last day of his life over and over again after he is killed in a war against an alien race. The solider uses these time loops to train and become a better soldier (it’s a little bit Groundhog Day and a little bit like a videogame). Should he accept the role, Paxton will play the “tough leader of Cruise’s platoon.”

Dante Harper (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) wrote the script with Joby Harold (who is in the midst of doing a rewrite). Doug Liman will direct, with production set to start later this year in London.

Doug Liman Takes On The Tourist

September 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I would imagine that with the Depp and Jolie flick The Tourist not exactly setting the box office alight, the title of this movie will change before it hits cinemas, but as things stand, Mr & Mrs Smith and Bourne Identity helmer Doug Liman has signed up to produce and possibly direct a spy thriller currently called The Tourist.

Deadline says Sony has optioned Olen Steinhauer’s Milo Weaver trilogy, which is about a retired CIA agent who’s living a quiet life with a wife and kid in a brownstone in Brooklyn – that is until one of his old colleagues is pulled into a scandal that forces Weaver back into the spy game. Sony is currently planning to translate the first book of the series, The Tourist, into a pulse-pounding thriller, and so has brought Liman on board to produce and direct from a script adapted by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the writers behind the spy drama Covert Affairs.

The Tourist was previously optioned by George Clooney’s production company, but they are no longer involved.

All You Need Is Kill Adds Charlotte Riley

August 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise is going to be hanging round quite a few British women on the set of All You Need Is Kill, as Emily Blunt has already signed up to co-star, and now she’s been joined by Tom Hardy’s fiance, Charlotte Riley (and just for the fact she gets to sleep with Tom, we hate her). It’ll be her first major role within the Hollywood system.

The movie is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s graphic novel, which is about a soldier who is killed during an on-going war between human and alien forces. He mysteriously keeps reliving his last day on Earth over and over again, eventually becoming a better soldier each time he steps into battle – sort of Groundhog Day meets a video-game. Charlotte Riley plays a fellow soldier fighting alongside Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Doug Liman will direct from an adapted screenplay by D.W. Harper, with Joby Harold performing the most recent rewrite. Shooting is scheduled to begin this autumn in London.
