Armie Hammer Joins Tom Cruise In The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Armie Hammer

Armie Hammer’s star continues to rise, with The Lone Ranger in cinemas this summer, and now the news, via Deadline, that he has joined the cast of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. alongside Tom Cruise, which Guy Ritchie is set to direct.

The original Man from U.N.C.L.E. ran from 1964 to 1968, starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as two agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), who do battle with the evil organisation Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.). Armie Hammer will play a version of McCallum’s Illya Kuryakin, with Tom Cruise playing Vaughn’s Napoleon Solo.

Guy Ritchie is directing from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns, which had been in development for several years. At one point, Steven Soderbergh was set to direct, with George Clooney attached to star, but they both dropped out when George Clooney had to have surgery on his neck. It isn’t clear when the Cruise starring version will shoot.

David Beckham’s Wet Bulge Stars In A Guy Ritchie Directed H&M Short

February 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David Beckham must be making an awful lot of money from his deal with with H&M, but as well as cash it also lets him indulge in his favourite hobby – being photographed in underwear.

For the spring campaign H&M have teamed him with filmmaker Guy Ritchie to make a short film where he quickly gets stripped to his undies and even decides to jump into a pool so that it’s even more difficult to ignore his bulge.

Even if (or indeed because) its more about Beckhams’s man bits that ever before, it’s still quite fun, with David get locked out of his house and then running after his robe, which has gotten trapped in a car door. As you’d expect a lot of people are surprised to see him running through the streets of LA in his undies.

Take a look at the short above, while a couple of new pics of Beckham are below (click for larger versions).

Guy Ritchie Directing Treasure Island

June 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Not content with having given Sherlock Holmes a kick up the butt, Guy Ritchie is now attached to direct another classic tale, in this case Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island for Warner Bros and Sherlock producers Lionel Wigram and Kevin McCormick, according to Deadline.

Warner has been working on a Treasure Island film since April 2010 (UK based Eccosse Films announced their own adaptation of the book around the same time, but there’s been little info on whether that’s still happening). Alex Harakis will write the script based on Michael Giglio’s first draft, which centres on narrator Jim Hawkins and his adventures with the pirate Long John Silver.

When it was first announced it was described as a contemporary adaptation, although it isn’t clear if this means it’ll be set in the present day or if like Sherlock it’ll have a modern sensibility but stay in the past. There’s no news either on when it might shoot.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (Blu-ray)

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Kelly Reilly, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Guy Ritchie
Running Time: 129 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: May 14th, 2012

All the way through 2010’s Sherlock Holmes, a shadowy figure lurked in the background who seemed to have a finger in every pie and used the mayhem Sherlock was involved with to his own ends.  In A Game Of Shadows that figure steps forward, with Jared Harris as Professor James Moriarty, who is Sherlock’s intellectual equal, even if he uses his brains for very different ends.

A series of explosions is rocking Europe and threaten to destabilise the already tenuous peace between the nations, with war a very real possibility. As you’d expect, Sherlock is soon deep in this conspiracy and has very quickly worked out that Moriarty is involved. However it’s not enough to know who’s behind it, as there’s no tangible evidence. As a result Holmes must investigate and work out Moriarty’s end game in order to stop the villain. [Read more…]

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (Cinema)

December 13, 2011 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Jude Law, Jared Harris, Noomi Rapace, Stephen Fry, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Guy Ritchie
Running Time: 128 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 16th, 2011

This sequel has a lot of expectations to live up to. The first Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes amassed over $524 million at the worldwide box office and remains in the Top 100 grossing films of all time.

As you’d hope, in Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows the original bromance is back with a vengeance! Guy Ritchie has delivered once again (after a few turkeys mind!), as the on-screen chemistry between Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr. is superb – reminiscent of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The supporting cast is also tremendous in their roles, although some of the parts are just too small. Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade is most notably missing screen time – blink and you’ll miss him – as is the excellent Geraldine James as the long-suffering Mrs Hudson (though I can’t help but think of her as one of the prostitutes from Band Of Gold!). Guy Ritchie May Direct Man From UNCLE

December 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After Steven Soderbergh dropped out of directing The Man From UNCLE a couple of weeks ago, it seemed that with difficulty finding a star and the helmer dropping out, the whole project was in jeopardy. However Warner Bros is sticking with it, as Deadline reports Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has signed on to produce the movie alongside his partner Lionel Wigram. Ritchie is apparently eyeing it as a directing project, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The film is adapted from The Man from UNCLE TV series that ran from 1964 to 1968. The show followed the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), which protected Earth from the evil organization Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (THRUSH). Soderbergh was keen to keep the 60s setting, but it isn’t known if that will change with Ritchie.

With production unlikely to to happen for a few months at least (Soderbergh planned to shoot in January), there’s the possibility George Clooney may come back onboard, as he only dropped out because his back surgery clashed with filming.

Guy Ritchie Races To Cannonball Run Remake

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

There’s little doubt that ever since the credit crunch, Hollywood has been looking at all sorts of different ways of funding movies. While product placement has been popular for a long time, it seems they’re going to try and take things a little further with a remake of The Cannonball Run, by attempting to get General Motors to actually put up an extensive financial stake in the film.

Vulture reports that to make the whole thing more attractive to GM, Warner Bros is currently considering Guy Ritchie or Shawn Levy to direct the remake. It is said that Guy Ritchie wants Brad Pitt to star, while Shawn Levy is eyeing the project for Ben Stiller to take the wheel. Ritchie apparently has the inside track on Shawn Levy at the moment, since both Ritchie and Pitt are repped by Creative Artists Agency, GM’s corporate agency, which should make it easier to pull things together.

If the Warner Bros./GM deal goes through, The Cannonball Run remake could showcase the car company’s new line, in much bigger ways than a normal product placement deal would allow for. It’s an interesting idea, but hopefully GM don’t mind their motors being destroyed, which was half the fun of the original Cannonball Run.

The 1981 movie starred Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, and focused on a cross-country road race with outlaw drivers doing anything it takes to win.
