Tom Cruise Shares The First Pic From Top Gun 2

June 3, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a few years there’s been talks of a second Top Gun movie. Indeed, it looked like it was nearing production with the director of the original, Tony Scott, at the helm. However, when Scott died the whole project got delayed.

Now though Tom Cruise is back on set for Top Gun: Maverick and to prove it he’s shared the first image from the movie, taken on the first day of shooting. Not much is known about the plot of the film, although there has been talk about it being another competition film, possibly between the new generation of drones and the old school fighter pilots like Cruise’s Maverick.

We should hear a lot more about it before it’s released in cinemas in July 2019. Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) is directing the movie.

Joseph Kosinski May Direct Tom Cruise In Top Gun 2, Which Shoots Next Year

May 24, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Several years ago there was talk of a sequel to Top Gun, but that was put on hold when the movie’s director, Tony Scott, died back in 2012. However, now the movie is back on, with Tom Cruise revealing that he’s hoping to shoot the sequel next year, and Variety now adding that a director may already have been found.

The current frontrunner for the director’s chair is Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, who’s previously worked with Cruise on Oblivion, and whose latest firefighting movie, Granite Mountain, is due for release later this year. Tom has apparently been busy ensuring Top Gun 2 would be ready to shoot next year while he’s been filming Mission Impossible: 6, which included interviewing directors. It was apparently Kosinski’s vision for the movie that won out, although no offer has yet been made to the director.

Not too much is known about the plot, but the film ‘will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and explore the end of an era of dogfighting which made the original film so exhilarating.’ It’s also believe Val Kilmer will return as Iceman, opposite Cruise’s Maverick.

Garrett Hedlund & Olivia Wide Confirmed For Tron 3

April 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tron-legacy-olivia-wilde-garrett-hudlundA couple of year ago Disney had massive plans to build a huge Tron franchise, but when Tron: Legacy failed to live up to expectations at the box office many thought that would be the end of all the extensive multimedia plans. However now a third movie is coming, with Joseph Kosinski once more directing.

While it’s seemed certain for a while that Garrett Hedlund would return, that’s now been confirmed and THR adds that Olivia Wilde will be back as Quorra.

Interestingly while all this info is out there, Disney still hasn’t officially announced the movie, even though numerous reports over the past few months have said it’s gearing up to shoot later this year.

There are no story details either, although Kosinski has previously suggested he wanted a third film to expand on and explore some ideas of Legacy, particularly the final minutes.

Tom Cruise Is Gonna Go Like Hell With Oblivion Director Joseph Kosinski

October 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-cruiseTom Cruise must have enjoyed working with director Joseph Kosinski on Oblivion, as they hoping to team up again, as they are both circling the racing drama Go Like Hell for 20th Century Fox, according to THR.

The movie has been in the works since 2011, when Michael Mann was close to directing. The drama is based on A.J. Baime’s book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, And Their Battle For Speed And Glory At Le Mans, which follows Ford’s decision to challenge Ferrari’s dominance at the 24-hour LeMans race. The Ford team, led by Henry Ford II, Lee Iacocca and Carroll Shelby developed the Ford GT40 in 1966, which became the first American-made sports car to win LeMans. The car went on to win the next four LeMans races.

There’s some confusion over exactly Cruise will play. It’s not known when it will shoot either.

Oblivion Helmer Joseph Kosinski Takes On The Twilight Zone

August 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joseph-kosinskiFor some time there’s been talk of a new film based on The Twilight Zone, but it seems like they’ve had difficulty figuring out how it would work, as while it’s a famous name, Rod Serling TV show’s anthology structure means there’s no real template to follow.

However now the idea is picking up steam, with THR reporting that Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) is in talks to direct The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. Matt Reeves had been attached to helm back in 2011, but but he is no longer involved.

Anthony Peckham wrote the original draft of the script, but the project is now being redeveloped for Kosinski. It’s thought Peckham’s script told a single tale, rather than following the multi-story approach of the TV show and 1980s-era movie. It’s unclear if this will change now Kosinski is onboard.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are producing through their Appian Way production company, alongside Michael Ireland. It’s no clear when it might shoot.

Jon Spaihts Rewriting Disney’s The Black Hole Remake

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Black-hole-1979-posterPrometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts has been hired to try to revive Disney’s long-gestating remake of their 1979 sci-fi film, The Black Hole, which has Joseph Kosinski attached to direct, according to THR.

The project was first put into development back in 2009, when Joseph Kosinski was still prepping his directorial debut, Tron: Legacy. Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim) wrote the first draft of the script, although since them there hasn’t been much info on the film.

The Black Hole was the most expensive film Disney had ever made at the time. It starred the likes Anthony Perkins, Robert Forster, and Ernest Borgnine as a group of space explorers who find a ship dubbed the USS Cygnus right the edge a black hole. Once they board the mysterious vessel, they find a mad scientist (Maximilian Schell) whose crew has abandoned him – so he lives surrounded by robots – but he believes he’s on the verge of a tremendous discovery.

The new take is said to be more philosophical and has a darker tone. It’s a movie that could be well worth remaking, as the original was limited by the special effects of the time, and also couldn’t help shoving in a Disney-fied robots that doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the film. Hopefully Spaihts will find a way to make it work.

New Oblivion Trailer Lands – Tom Cruise deals with a ruined Earth

March 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While we have to wait until April 12th in the UK and April 19th in the US to find out whether the story of Oblivion works, this trailer certainly suggests Joseph Kosinski’s film is going to look amazing.

The film is set in a future where the surface of the Earth is ruined, Cruise plays a man who services the drones that ensure humanity can still get the natural resources it craves, even though it has had to abandon the surface and live in the sky. However he discovers that perhaps the way he believes this new world works is a lie, and as he investigates, he becomes a target himself.

As the trailer shows, Morgan Freeman may have some answers.
