Dwayne Johnson Wants To Be The Fall Guy For Director McG

September 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dwayne-johnsonDwayne Johnson is currently on-set making Hercules with director Brett Ratner, and soon he’ll be heading off to the Fast & Furious set, but he’s already thinking ahead. THR reports that Johnson is in talks to star in movie version of the 80s TV show The Fall Guy for Hyde Park Entertainment and WWE Studios, with McG in negotiations to direct and produce.

The original Fall Guy series ran for five seasons from 1981 to 1986, starring Lee Majors as Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers, who uses his skills to moonlight as a bounty hunter when he is not on set. He was joined by his cousin (Douglas Barr) and an attractive stuntwoman (Heather Thomas) on his missions, which normally involved transferring a movie stunt to his work as a bounty hunter.

The film version project had been in the works for several years, first at Warner Bros. and then at DreamWorks. It was with the latter that in 2011 Nicolas Cage was set to star with Martin Campbell attached to direct, but that version never happened.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) wrote the screenplay, although it’s not clear when it might shoot.

Hailee Steinfeld Joins Kevin Costner In McG’s Action Thriller

November 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hailee Steinfeld got much praise and as Oscar nomination for True Grit, but we haven’t seen much of her since (although IMDB says she’s got six flm in post-production). Now it’s been confirmed, via Deadline, that she’s joined Kevin Costner in director McG’s untitled action thriller, formerly known as Three Days to Kill.

Luc Besson is producing the film, which follows a dying Secret Service agent (Costner) who decides to take on one final mission while simultaneously trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Desperate to save himself, the agent is also part of an experimental drug study that might prolong his life long enough for a sequel. The drug begins to take its toll when it’s discovered that it produces some much-unwanted hallucinatory side effects.

Luc Besson wrote the screenplay alongside Adi Hasak. Production should begin early next year.

McG Confirmed To Direct Magic Castle Movie

November 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week it was revealed that 20th Century Fox and Radar Pictures are set to team up to make a movie based on the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood. Now the film has moved forward with the news, via THR, that Terminator: Salvation and This Means War’s McG has signed on to direct.

Nothing is known about the story for this film, although it will likely have something to do with the establishment’s rich history. The LA venue is where some of the world’s top magicians gather to meet, perform for one another and trade secrets (some may remember the Magic Castle from Arrested Development, but not realised it was a real place). The mansion was built in 1909 and turned into a private night club back in 1963. Sadly though it’s closed to the public (the only way to get in is if you’ve been invited by a member), so few now what really goes on inside.

Andrew Barrer and Gabe Ferrari are writing the screenplay.

McG won’t get going on Magic Castle for a while yet as he will soon begin production on Three Days to Kill, starring Kevin Costner. After that project wraps in February, the director will turn his attention to the magical movie.

Kevin Costner & McG Sign On For Three Days To Kill

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Kevin Costner’s career has seemed on the skid for the past few year, he certainly seems to be making a comeback, with roles in Man Of Steel, the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot and a possible spin-off from that. Now he has closed a deal to take the lead role in a Luc Besson written/producer thriller which is currently untitled, but which until recently was known as Three Days To Kill.

The movie also now has a director in the form of McG (This Means War). The movie is about a Secret Service Agent Ethan Runner who discovers he’s dying and decides to retire in order to reconnect with his estranged family. But when the Secret Service offers him access to an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment, he soon finds himself trying to juggle his family, his mission, and the drug’s hallucinatory side-effects.

It isn’t currently known when the film might shoot. (Source: ThePlaylist)

This Means War (DVD)

July 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler, Til Schweiger, Tom Hardy
Director: McG
Running Time: 93 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: July 2nd 2012

Note: Some of this review was previously published in connection with the cinema release

I know the exact moment when I gave up on the idea that This Means War was going to be a good movie. Fairly early on Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) is shopping with her friend, Trish (Chelsea Handler), a character who only exists to give Lauren an excuse to say exactly what she’s thinking at any point in time.

However it wasn’t the lazy exposition (something the film loves to engage in) that made me realise that behind the fireworks there wasn’t much going on in This Means War, it was because the scene was set up so that the two women were doing their entire supermarket shop based on what was on the end of the aisles. They picked out detergent, looked at special offers and neither of them seemed to need anything that wasn’t right there in front of them. [Read more…]
