The Hitman’s Bodyguard Trailer – Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson get into some comedy action

May 28, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson have teamed up for an action-comedy, The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The movie sees them in full mismatched buddy comedy mode, as they travel across Europe as former enemies turned reluctant allies.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The world’s top protection agent (Ryan Reynolds) is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world’s most notorious hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson). The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their raucous and hilarious adventure from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator (Gary Oldman) who is out for blood. Salma Hayek joins the mayhem as Jackson’s equally notorious wife.’

The movie with be in US and UK cinemas on August 18th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Does Expendables 3 Include A Gay Action Hero Couple? The Director Says It Does

August 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

expendables-3-poster-slideThe Expendables 3 is the type of testosterone-heavy, all-guns-blazing action film that you wouldn’t expect would have much time for a gay couple – except maybe to shoot them for not being manly enough (and I’m not joking, it happened quite a lot in 1970s and 1980s films).

However many were surprised by a scene towards the ends where it’s suggested two of the movies action heroes might be more than just friends. If you don’t want to know who, stop reading now as we’re going into SPOILER ALERT mode.

The scene in question comes towards the end, when Sylvester’s Stallone’s Barney Ross is talking to Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Yin Yang (Jet Li), who’ve shown up to help save the day.

After Ross asks Yin Yang, “So, you’re working for Trench now?”, Yang and Trench lean in closer together, grinning, to which Ross responds, “You guys want to get a room?”

“We don’t need a room!” Trench replies, pulling Yang towards him so the younger man’s head is resting on his chest.

When watching the film, many weren’t sure whether the scene was just a joke, or if it was genuinely saying Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s characters were in a relationship together.

However now the film’s director, Patrick Hughes, has stepped forward to say he thinks the characters are indeed involved. When asked by Grantland if he thinks the characters are a couple, he replied, “I believe they are.”

If correct, it would be the first time Schwarzenegger has ever played a gay character.

Indeed he’s had a bit of a mixed record on gay rights, as while he’s been seen a broadly supportive of gay people in private, during his time as Governor he vetoed same-sex marriage bills twice and it was also on his watch that Proposition 8 – which sought to put a gay marriage ban in California’s constitution – was enacted.

However since leaving office he’s conducted at least two same-sex marriages, suggesting that his opposition to gay rights was more political (he was a Republican govenor, after all) than personal.

Taylor Kitsch May Take The Lead In The Raid Remake

August 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

taylor-kitsch-shirtless-john_carterHollywood’s so far unsuccessful attempts to turn Taylor Kitsch into a bona fide A-list star (and they really have been trying) continues with the news, via The Wrap, that he’s been offered the lead in the English-language remake of The Raid.

Some would say we already got that – but with a sci-fi twist – with Dredd, but Screen Gems hopes to start shooting its take on the 2011 Indonesian hit movie next January.

However Kitsch being part of the movie is far from a done deal. While it appears the actor and the studio are in talks, rumours suggest they’re far apart in terms of the money being aked. There’s also the fact Kitsch is in talks for the second season of True Detective. Although he may be able to do both, they’d have sort out the scheduling carefully, as True Detective is due to wrap around the same time The Raid remake starts.

Frank Grillo is also likely to star, with Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) directing from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace).

The original The Raid featured a team of policemen who become trapped in an apartment building that is the heavily secured stronghold of a drug lord who is determined that none of them will make it out alive. It was more the fighting and action than the plot that impressed people though. The remake is said to be set in the world of DEA fast teams, and will feature a clash between different fighting styles.

Steven Seagal May Join Expendables 3 & Go Up Against Mel Gibson

July 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steven-seagalSteven Seagal is one of the few action stars who hasn’t been in The Expendables franchise yet, but that may change, as Exblog has unconfirmed reports that he’s in talks for a role in The Expendables 3. Back in April 2012, the actor revealed that Sylvester Stallone had offered him a role in the sequel, although we hadn’t heard anything further about his involvement until now.

A few weeks ago, there were suggestions that Mel Gibson is playing the villain. Now several Bulgarian news outlets seem to be confirming Gibson’s involvement, and say that both Steven Seagal and Mel Gibson will have a fight scene alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and Dolph Lundgren.

The screenplay has reportedly been rewritten several times to accommodate a growing cast that also includes Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jovovich and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) is directing from a screenplay by Richard Wenk. Production is scheduled to begin later this summer.

Milla Jovovich, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes & Jackie Chan In Talks For Expendables 3

June 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Milla-JovovichFor a few months, it’s been rumoured that Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes were all wanted for The Expendables 3. Today, it has been announced that they are all in “advanced negotiations” with production slated to start this August, and there’s a female name in the mix too, Milla Jovovich.

Nothing is known about about the characters characters they will play, although it’s long been rumoured that Cage is up to play the main villain. More casting announcements are also expected in the near future, with shooting scheduled to begin in August.

Relative newcomer Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) will direct from a script by Sylvester Stallone, who will also, of course, star. (Source: Deadline)

Aussie Filmmaker Patrick Hughes Set To Direct The Expendables 3

April 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Patrick-HughesOver the last few days Sylvester Stallone has been releasing tweets suggesting he’s found the director of The Expendables 3, such as saying, ‘Found an EXCITING director… Things sometimes happen for a Reason….Okay?’

Eventually Sylvester confirmed that Australian filmmaker Patrick Hughes will direct The Expendables 3. One of the helmer’s main qualifications seems to be his ability to put an action movie together cheaply and quickly, with Stallone saying of Hughes’ Red Hill, ‘Great Movie!!500,000 budget 20 day shoot, Amazing – ROCKY was 850,000 and 25 days , Good OMEN!!!’

Red Hill was Hughes’ first feature, so it’s a big jump up for him to take on Expendables 3.

Aside from Sylvester Stallone, who is returning as Barney Ross, no other actor has been confirmed for the sequel. Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan have been mentioned as possible new additions, but nothing is set in stone yet. Dolph Lundgren revealed in January that production may begin as early as this autumn.
