Emily Browning Going To Pompeii With Director Paul WS Anderson

February 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emily-browningThe destruction of Pompeii in 79AD is an event that’s lived long in the public consciousness, largely due to the ruins left behind and the casts of those caught in the devastation. However while most know there was a Volcano, not that many know more than that.

Paul WS Anderson (Resident Evil, The Three Musketeers) is planning to change that, as he’s putting together Pompeii, all about the disaster. Kit Harington (Game Of Thrones) is already set to star, and now Dark Horizons reports he’ll be joined by Sucker Punch actress Emily Browning.

Pompeii revolves around the slave of a shipping tycoon (Harington) who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter (Browning). What the slave doesn’t know is that she’s already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s been sold to another owner. Just when things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts with the power of 40 nuclear bombs. But the slave is trapped on a ship headed for Naples, separated from his love and best friend, a gladiator who is trapped in the city’s coliseum. As fire and ash destroy the only world he’s ever known, the slave is determined to get back and rescue them.

Lee Batchler, Janet Scott Batchler and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes penned the script. It’s not clear when it will shoot.

Game Of Thrones Star Kit Harington Up For Pompeii

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kit Harington has found great success with Game of Thrones (indeed he’s probably the best thing in it). The TV series has ensured he’s been up for a lot of major film role, but not much has come of it so far. For example he was all ready to go in a major Arthur & Lancelot movie, until it got cancelled in the last minute. Now he’s in talks for the lead role in Summit Entertainment’s Pompeii, which has Paul W.S. Anderson onboard to direct, according to THR.

The film, based on Robert Harris’ novel, is set in 79 A.D. and centres on Milo (Kit Harington), a slave whose plans to marry the daughter of his shipping tycoon master are dashed when he is sold to another owner in Naples. When Mount Vesuvius erupts, he flees back to Pompeii to rescue his lover and his best friend, a gladiator trapped in the coliseum.

Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler wrote the original screenplay, with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes providing the most recent script revision. It hasn’t bee revealed when it might shoot.

The Three Musketeers (3D Blu-ray)

February 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 27th, 2012

I’ve said before that I think Paul W.S. Anderson is the best bad director there is, and he proves that again here, delivering a load of very good action set-pieces and individual scenes, but overall creating a movie that verges on the incoherent.

Logan Lerman plays D’Artagnan, a country boy who heads for Paris with the hope of being a musketeer like his father before him. However he’s arrived too late, as the legendary Porthos (Ray Stevenson), Athos (Matthew MacFadyen) and Aramis (Luke Evans) are out of favour and the musketeers are no more. [Read more…]
