God bless young Jacob Tremblay. The Room and Book Of Henry star is impossibly cute, something that comes through even under the large amounts of makeup he has to wear for Wonder. Although it might seem a little creepy to be talking about a young boy’s cuteness, in this case it’s vital to the film, as Tremblay’s talents are so central to the movie. The makeup is potentially a real barrier for an actor though, and a tough one for somebody so young to overcome. Jacob does it though with aplomb.

Tremblay plays August ‘Auggie’ Pullman, who was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which has left him with significant facial deformities. He’s been home-schooled by his mother (Julia Roberts), but will be going to mainstream school for the first time when he joins the fifth grade. Starting high school can be tough for anyone, but Charlie (Logan Lerman) has more on his plate than most. He’s recently out of the hospital after suffering from mental health problems, he’s still reeling from his best friend’s suicide and when he turns up at school, even the few people he does know ignore him.

Despite being quiet and generally keeping to himself, he manages to befriend seniors Patrick (Ezra Miller) and Sam (Emma Watson), who introduce him to their group of friends. Charlie starts to open up, has his first relationship and begins to fall for Sam, allowing him to put his issues to one side. However as teen traumas inevitably arise and his friends get closer to leaving school, he faces losing the support network he’s built and may have to actually deal with his problems. [Read more…]

In The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, Charlie (Logan Lerman) who hopes to change his world and become popular on his first day of classes, but unfortunately doesn’t have much success. Luckily, he does get to meet Sam and Patrick (Emma Watson, Ezra Miller) two seniors that take Charlie under their wing and show him that being an outsider isn’t the worst thing in the world. The film also stars Paul Rudd, Mae Whitman, Melanie Lynskey, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Johnny Simmons, and Nicholas Braun. It’s due out in September in the US but no UK date is currently set.
