The Lone Ranger Extended Superbowl Spot – Hi ho Johnny Depp

February 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although some of the special effects shots in this extended TV spot look a little dodgy (hopefully that’ll be sorted out before the film is released), The Lone Ranger certainly seems like it’ll be spectacular and fun – which is what you’d hope considering the $200+ million budget.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

The film will be released on August 9th, 2013.

Disney is hoping we’ll all want to go to the wild west this summer when The Lone Ranger is released on August 9th, 2013. Now the studio has released a new poster, and we’ve also got a preview below of the movie’s Superbowl TV spot (the full thing will air on Sunday night, and should be online around the same time).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’ [Read more…]

New The Lone Ranger Trailer – Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer go for a western spectacular

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mixing an old TV western with big budget action didn’t work to well with the Will Smith starrer The Wild Wild West, but then they said Pirate movies were box office poison until Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp came up with Pirates Of The Caribbean. Now Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp are back with The Lone Ranger, and the first full trailer for the movie has now shown up.

The $200 million movie is due out August 2013.

The Lone Ranger Trailer & Poster

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailer for The Lone Ranger has shown up online, but unfortunately at the moment the embed we have of it isn’t that great (we’ll hopefully be able to remedy that soon). The trailer premiered on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, although the embed comes from CBM. It’s interesting that the trailer plays up the action and intrigue, rather than the humour and wild west setting. Expect to see a lot more in the run up to the July 2013 release of the movie.

Seven New Pics Of Depp & Hammer In Lone Ranger Arrive

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With its vast budget, Disney has a lot riding on The Lone Ranger and so they’ve started the marketing effort early, releasing seven new images, along with comments from director Gore Verbinski, even though the film won’t arrive in UK cinemas until August 2013.

If nothing else, they suggest the film, starring Armie Hammer in the title role, will look good, and Johnny Depp as Tonto will spend a lot of time wearing a dead bird on his head. Take a look at the new images below, along with Verbinski’s comments, which come via USA Today.

“This is their bad-ass moment. Johnny and I have been able to create a really good dynamic between these two guys.”

“It’s a dysfunctional buddy movie. It’s two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different worldviews. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements.”

“We made a big Western the old-fashioned way. You have to go there. This is right before the Lone Ranger and Tonto head out on their journey together. This is the first time they make a decision to work as a team.”

“[Depp is] is an odd-shaman, an outcast from his own tribe, who has created his own mystical world. [His crow headpiece is] his companion. It’s a stuffed bird that he feeds birdfeed.”

“All the traditional westerns are about choice and the individual. When progress comes it’s much more difficult to define the individual in that world. The train represents all of that. What do we give up in the name of progress?”

“This is during an attack sequence. The film has everything you can want, from Cavalry to Comanche. My respect for Westerns have gone way, way up. It’s hard and treacherous work. It’s hard to find people these days who can ride horses like that and jump onto trains.”

“It was a modern train clad in a steam engine just to get through all the work we had to do The train sequences are really entertaining.”

First Pic Of Depp & Hammer In Lone Ranger Debuts

March 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After plenty of problems with an ever-ballooning budget that almost saw Disney scrap the film, The Lone Ranger is finally shooting, and to prove it, Jerry Bruckheimer has tweeted the first image from the set, showing a bemasked Armie Hammer as the title character, alongside Johnny Depp as Tonto (Depp now only signs onto movies if they promise he can wear completely OTT costumes).

According to Disney, ‘The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

And I don’t know the politics of this, but is it not racist if Depp pretends to be a Native American, but it would be if he blacked up? It’s all very confusing.

William Fichtner Takes Over Lone Ranger Villain Role

February 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The delay to the shooting schedule of Lone Ranger caused by Disney putting on the brakes while they sorted out the ever-ballooning budget was inevitably going to cause some casting issues. Most of the actors have stayed onboard, but one who was forced to drop out is Dwight Yoakam.

Now Deadline reports William Fichtner has been brought in to replace him, which is good news as the Drive Angry actor is always good value for money. Fichtner will play Butch Cavendish, leader of the Cavendish gang and the pic’s primary villain. Christopher Lloyd played this same character in 1981’s The Legend of the Lone Ranger.

Shooting on The Lone Ranger is due to start soon for release on May 31, 2013, with Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Ruth Wilson, Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Tom Wilkinson and James Frain all onboard

James Frain On For The Lone Ranger

December 19, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems that The Lone Ranger is keen not to depart from the old Hollywood standby of casting Brits as villains. Tom Wilkinson is already installed as the main baddie in the film, and now THR reports he has some company in the form of James Frain.

Frain is one of those actors where you probably know the face even if you don’t know his name, as he often pops up in guest spots on American TV shows and has appeared in the likes of Tron: Legacy and Water for Elephants). In the Lone Ranger he’ll portray a foreman who oversees Chinese and Native American railroad workers for the villainous Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson).

Armie Hammer will play the title character, with Johnny Depp as Tonto. Helena Bonham Carter, Ruth Wilson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, are also onbarod Dwight Yoakam also star. After ruction over the budget that caused filming to be delayed, dhooting is due to start on February 13th with Gore Verbinski directing.

Lone Ranger Gets The Greenlight

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The game of hardball between Disney, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer seems to have come to an end, as Deadline reports that after all sorts of issues, the studio has finally given the Lone Ranger the green light.

Back in August it looked like things were all over for the movie, as Disney cancelled it when Verbinski said he couldn’t make the film for less than $250-$275 million. Disney wanted it to cost $200 million or less. With neither side budging, the studio simply pulled the plug. Since then, Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp have all been working on making the film cheaper, and have also taken pay cuts. Portions of the script were also revised to keep most of the spectacle, but for a lower cost. It’ll now cost $215 million, which the studio seems happy with.

Johnny Depp will star as Tonto, while Armie Hammer is set to portray the title character. Several other people, such as Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Wilkinson were cast in the film before it was cancelled, but it’s not known if they’ll stick around following the delays. A December 21, 2012 release date is still currently set for Lone Ranger, although that date seems likely to change since production isn’t expected to begin until January or February of 2012 (Disney will announce later this week exactly when the film will shoot).
