Ellen Page Says Not Being Out Made Her Awkward Around Gay People

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

ellen-page-flare3In February Ellen Page made headlines with a speech where she publicly revealed she is a lesbian. Now she’s been talking to Flare Magazine about coming out, and alongside that is an incredible set of photos of the actress, some of which you can see above and below.

Page spoke of the difficulties she faced being in the closet, saying “You think you’re in a place where you’re all, ‘I’m thrilled to be gay, I have no issues about being gay anymore, I don’t feel shame about being gay,’ but you actually do.

“You’re just not fully aware of it. I think I still felt scared about people knowing. I felt awkward around gay people; I felt guilty for not being myself. The more time went by, the more something just happened, and, Oh my god — I want to love someone freely and walk down the street and hold my girlfriend’s hand.

“I felt happy and confident and the difference was huge. I feel more creatively inspired than I have in years. And I’m sure it has to do with a lot of bricks being taken out of the backpack.”

Ellen also talked about the arguments for and against coming out that she heard, saying, “You hear things like, ‘People shouldn’t know about your life because you’re creating an illusion on-screen’.

“But I don’t see other actresses going to great lengths to hide their heterosexuality. That’s an unfair double standard.”

And if you’re a lady hoping to one day have the Juno star on your arm, you don’t need to give up all hope just yet as Flare says that Page ‘would like her future girlfriend, if she’s reading, to know that she can’t wait to hang out with her.’ [Read more…]

Cameron Diaz Reveals She Has ‘Been With A Lady’

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cameron-diazThe Internet got a bit excited a few weeks ago with reports that Cameron Diaz had said she was “sexually attracted” to other women. While many were ready to slap a bisexual label on her, she soon after clarified her comments by adding, “that’s not what I was saying, what I’m saying is that I can appreciate the beauty of another woman.”

That wasn’t enough for Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, who wanted details!

Cohen asked her, “Have you, yourself, ever swam in the lady pond?”

Diaz then replied, “Yes, I have been with a lady. You didn’t ask explicitly how I’ve been with a lady, but I have been with a lady.”

The actress has previously spoken of her dislike of labelling her sexuality, saying “Because we have to label it, because we make people choose who they want to be, people aren’t happy. They’re ruining relationships and friendships and marriages, and they’re feeling like they can’t have all sides of themselves. They feel like they have to choose. If we just allowed people to be themselves and to be open to it and not have to be absolute one way or another, life could be really full.”

Betty White Doesn’t Care If You’re Gay, ‘What Kind Of Human Being Are You?’

April 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Betty-WhiteBetty White has long known be known as a gay ally. She’s been happy with everything LGBT for a long time, even admitting she’d been happy to act as Liberace’s beard on several occasions when she was younger.

Now she’s reaffirmed her support in an interview with Larry King, where the 92-year-old (yes, one of the funniest women on the planet really is now 92)  was asked about how the gay community impacted on her career.

She said, “I don’t care whom you sleep with. It’s ‘what kind of human being are you?’ I don’t understand [why people are antigay], it’s such a personal private business and it’s none of mine.”

It echoes the sentiments she expressed in a 2010 interview with Parade, where she said, “I don’t know how people can get so anti-something. Mind your own business, take care of your affairs, and don’t worry about other people so much.”

Anyone else thinking Betty White is so awesome we ought to set up a religion based around here (and perhaps the other Golden Girls too)?

Take a look at what Betty had to say below.

Bryan Singer Breaks Silence On ‘Sick, Twisted Shakedown’ Rape Allegations

April 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan-SingerIn the past week and a half Bryan Singer has gone from preparing for the release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past to being embroiled in allegations that he raped Michael F. Egan when he was 17-years-old in 1999. While there have been several strong denials, these have come through his lawyer.

Now Singer himself has released a statement, where he both denies the allegations and officially bows out of publicity for the X-Men movies.

He says: ‘The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past. This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I’ve decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film. However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support.”

Singer’s lawyer, Marty Singer, has said he has ‘at least 100 witnesses [who] could testify Singer was on set and not in Hawaii during the times he is accused of sexual abuse’. It’s believed Singer in in the process of providing the courts with documentation showing he was in Vancouver filming the first X-Men film when the assaults are supposed to have taken place.

Egan sued in Hawaii due to the fact the statute of limitations had been temporarily extended there. While he says most of the abuse took place in California, he is no longer able to sue there. However he claims several rapes and other abuse took place in Hawaii, involving Singer and three other entertainment figures whom he has also sued.

In related news, Dustin Lance Black has denied reports that he would be called as a character witness for Bryan Singer. However he could still become involved in the case, as Egan’s lawyer has said, “I intend to take depositions [statements] of all individuals who may have relevant information, including Singer’s friends.” That could include Black, although there’s been no suggestion the writer knows anything about the allegations.

Buzzfeed meanwhile reports that Mark Collins-Rector, a convicted sex offender who co-owned the properties where the abuse Egan claims took place, has gone missing and hasn’t been seen since 2007. In 2000 Collins-Rector was convicted of transporting minors across state lines for the purpose of having sex with them, and was also involved in several civil lawsuits surrounding allegations of underage sex. He is not named as a defendant in the current lawsuits, although it’s believed Egan took legal action against Collins-Rector previously without mentioning Singer’s name.

More New The Normal Heart Posters Arrive Featuring Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons & Julia Roberts

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

normal-heart-poster-quintetJust yesterday we featured two new posters for HBO’s upcoming The Normal Heart, which featured lead actors Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer.

Now they’ve been joined by three more, this time giving us Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.

Based on Larry Kramer’s seminal play, The Normal Heart sees Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks, who in the early 80s is one of the first people to raise an alarm about a new disease that’s initially known as ‘Gay Cancer’, but which was later called HIV/AIDS. Matt Bomer is Felix Turner, a gay fashion journalist who becomes Ned’s lover.

Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will be gay activist Tommy Boatwright, a role he previously took in a 2011 Broadway revival of the play. Julia Roberts is Emma Brookner, a doctor who is the only one of her peers in New York taking AIDS seriously. Jonathan Groff is playing an early victim of the disease called Craig, whose boyfriend, Taylor Kitsch, starts off as a closeted investment banker but eventually becomes an AIDS activist.

Larry Kramer’s play is considered one of the most important reactions to the early AIDS epidemic, written by someone who has on the front lines of the fight, such as co-founding Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP. Kramer later wrote a follow-up, The Destiny Of Me.

You can see all five Normal Heart posters below (click on them for larger versions). The film debuts in the US on May 25th and will hopefully reach the rest of the world soon afterwards.

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Caleb-Landry-JonesA couple of weeks ago Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall got its first star with War Horse and Railway Man’s Jeremy Irvine signing up for the movie. Now he’s got some company as Deadline reports X-Men: First Class star Caleb Landry Jones is in talks for the film.

Jones will play, ‘an eccentric gay street hustler named Orphan Annie who at first resists then warms up to Danny and later participates in the Stonewall uprising’.

Emmerich revealed a few weeks ago that he intends to start production on the movie in the next couple of months.

Gabourey Sidibe Talks Playing A Lesbian In The Upcoming Life Partners

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gabourey-sidibe“I just really wanted to play a lesbian, which I guess is sort of nerdy. My best friend in the entire world is a lesbian and I just thought it would be fun.”

Those are the words of Oscar-nominated Precious and American Horror Story actress Gabourey Sidibe, who takes on a lesbian role in the movie Life Partners, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival this week.

She adds to Out, “Once I showed up in this role, I realized actually how playing a lesbian is not different. It’s all about the story, and it’s the same thing. It’s the same as playing a straight person. But I really did like it, because this character got to be a little bit of a pimp.”

Sidibe is currently starring alongside James Franco in the new Broadway production of Of Mice and Men. Life Partners will hopefully be released soon.

Jodie Foster Married Her Partner Alexandra Hedison Over The Weekend

April 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alexandra-hedison-jodie-fosterJodie Foster may now be officially ‘out’ but that doesn’t mean she’s suddenly going to be telling people what she’s up to in her private life ahead of time.

She’s managed to keep her nuptials a secret, as it’s only now a few days later that E! reports that Foster married her girlfriend Alexandra Hedison over the weekend.

The women started dating last summer, with news of their relationship surfacing in October 2013.

There are no details about the ceremony or where it took place – so don’t expect any big glossy magazine spreads featuring pics from the event.

Hedison previously dated Ellen Degeneres several years ago and is a successful photographer. She’s also an actress, which includes playing Dylan Moreland in three seasons of The L Word.

Foster officially came out at the 2013 Golden Globes, although her sexuality had been an open secret for many years.

Matt Bomer Reveals He Actually Married His Partner A Year Before He Came Out As Gay

April 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-bomer-2014-details2A couple of years ago Matt Bomer came out during a Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards speech when he thanked, “My beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.’

‘Simon’ is his longtime partner, publicist Simon Halls.

However what he didn’t mention at the time is that he and Simon actually tied the knot a year before his February 2012 speech. The fact is included in a new interview in Details magazine, which subtly mentions, ‘Bomer married his longtime partner, the Hollywood publicity executive Simon Halls, in 2011.’

They also have three sons: one of whom is eight, along with six-year-old twins.

Bomer is mainly talking to Details about the upcoming The Normal Heart, saying that Larry Kramer’s play had a profound effect on him growing up. He says as teenager, “I was clueless and obviously in a different place in relation to my sexuality. I was in romantic relationships with girls—whatever that means at 14. And it [The Normal Heart] completely rocked my world…It’s just an amazing call to arms.”

It ensured that when a film version finally started coming together he was keen to be part of it in any capacity, eventually landing the role of Felix Turner. You can watch The Normal Heart trailer here.

Take a look at a few pics from the great photoshoot accompanying the Details article below (click on them for larger versions), along with a video from the set (which also shows how much weight Bomer lost to play one of the early victims of AIDS).
