Rudderless Trailer – Billy Crudup & Anton Yelchin star in William H. Macy’s directorial debut

August 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rudderless-posterThe first trailer William H. Macy’s directorial debut, Rudderless, has debuted, giving us a look at Billy Crudup and Anton Yelchin in the musical drama. The movie debuted to mixed reviews as Sundance Film Festival, and will hit US cinemas and VoD in October (no UK date is currently set).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In William H. Macy’s moving directorial debut RUDDERLESS, Billy Crudup plays Sam, a former high-profile advertising executive whose life is torn apart by the sudden death of his son. Living off the grid on a docked sailboat, he wastes away his days while drowning his pain in alcohol. When Sam discovers a box filled with his son’s demo tapes and lyrics, his own child’s musical talent is a revelation for him, a grieving father who felt he’d been absent from his son’s life. Communing with his deceased son’s dashed dreams, Sam learns each song and eventually musters the will to perform one at a local bar. When Quentin, a young musician in the audience, is captivated by the song, the unlikely duo forms a rock band that becomes surprisingly popular and revitalizes both of their lives.’

Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne and Felicity Huffman also star. Take a look at the trailer below [Read more…]

August 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

She’s currently filming the role of Wonder Woman in Superman Vs Batman: Dawn Of Justice, and now she’s booked another film, Criminal, according to THR.

Last weekend Ryan Reynolds also signed up to star alongside Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones, which is about a ruthless killer (Costner) who chooses to take part in a scientific experiment instead of spending the rest of his life in jail. He gets implanted with the brain of a recently-murdered CIA field operative (Reynolds) in the hope that he will stop a diabolical plot.

Gadot is set to play Reynold’s wife.

Tom Hiddleston Sought For Title Role In Ben-Hur Remake

August 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-HiddlestonFor quite a while now a remake of Ben-Hur has been in the works. Now it’s starting to move towards production with Deadline reporting that Tom Hiddleston is MGM, Paramount Pictures and director Timur Bekmambetov’s top choice to play the lead role.

It doesn’t appear an official offer has been extended to the actor yet, and Hiddleston has other offers on the table, but it seems he’s the one the studios want.

Keith R. Clarke wrote the spec script for the film, which is said to be more faithful to Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel than the multi-Oscar winning 1959 movie, which starred Charlton Heston.

The 1950s version focussed on the section of the story that was about the feud between the Jewish Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) and his Roman former friend Messalla (Stephen Boyd). The new film is said to further explore these characters’ formative years, when they grew up together before the Roman Empire conquered Jerusalem.

This film will also include the story of Jesus Christ, whose story is told in parallel to Ben-Hur’s. Although this was touched on in the Charlton Heston film, it’s said to be more central to the remake.

Robin Williams Dies Of Suspected Suicide At The Age Of 63

August 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Robin-WilliamsIn what has come as a shock to many, Oscar winning actor and comedian Robin Williams has died, with the initial assumption being that he committed suicide (as reported by the police, who need to complete their investigation in order to confirm that).

Williams’ publicist Mara Buxbaum has already told THR, “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

His wife, Susan Schneider, has also released a statement, saying, “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

The statement on Williams death from Marin County Police reads: ‘On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 a.m, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63-year-old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.

‘An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Division s of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.’

Although Williams is well known for his fast-paced comedy, he long battled demons including depression and substance dependence (he had issues with both drugs and alcohol dependence). However he has given many people a lot of joy over the years in films from Good Morning Vietnam and Jumanji to his Academy Award winning turn in Good Will Hunting. Williams was also a long-time supporter of LGBT rights, who was never afraid to stand up for equal rights.

Reclaim Trailer – John Cusack is getting dodgy around Ryan Phillippe

August 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

reclaim-slideJohn Cusack and Ryan Phillippe are sometimes allowed in major Hollywood movies, but they spend a lot of time grafting away in the endless line of thrillers that get made and hope to do well enough on DVD to make their money back.

Reclaim certainly seems like one of those movies, with Cusack as a man involved in a dodgy adoption agency, which cause huge issues for Phillippe and Rachel Lefevre after they get a child from him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After their newly adopted daughter goes missing in a small town, Steven and Shannon will stop at nothing to uncover the truth behind her disappearance and the dangerous secret behind the adoption agency they trusted. Risking their own lives, they will discover just what being a parent means and how far they will go to get their child back.’

Mark Ruffalo & Rachel McAdams Go Into The Spotlight For A Film About Priest Sex Abuse

August 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-ruffaloAfter the huge ructions over the sexual abuse of children by priests in the Catholic Church, it’s almost surprising the film world has only nibbled at the edges of the scandal – probably because it’s such a hot button and difficult topic.

However now Tom McCarthy (Win Win) is planning to direct a film about the decades-long cover-up of paedophile priests in Massachusetts, and THR reports he’s living up a great cast including Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams and Stanley Tucci.

The film, called Spotlight, is based around the year-long investigation by The Boston Globe that uncovered the fact the Church knew it has abusive priests in its midst, but systematically hushed it up. The investigation by the paper’s ‘Spotlight Team’ led to the resignation of Cardinal Bernard Law, who had hidden years of serial abuse. It helped expose the way the Catholic Church dealt with abuse, with has since become a major scandal around the world.

Ruffalo and McAdams will play reporters, but it’s not clear who Tucci and Keaton will be. Josh Singer wrote the script, which landed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays.
