July 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nightcrawler-posterYesterday we posted a teaser for the Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nightcrawler. Now it’s been followed up with a proper trailer and a poster, which you can see above and below.

There’s still not a vast amount known about the exact plot – indeed the trailer tells us more than we’ve ever had before – but it is known that it centres on ‘a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of LA freelance crime journalism’.

Dan Gilroy write and directs, with a Toronto Film Festival premiere planned before an October 17th US release. It certainly looks like it might be an interesting one, so take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Steve Carell Heads To Brooklyn Family Robinson

July 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steve-CarellFollowing Alice In Wonderland and Maleficent Disney is making big bets on taking more of its classic animated movies live-action. Now it’s looking to one of its older live-action properties with plans to give it an update and a twist – Swiss Family Robinson.

THR reports that Steve Carell is set to star in the movie, which will be penned by Finding Nemo co-writer David Reynolds.

Plot details are described as being ‘vague in order to protect the project’s secrets, but it is known that Brooklyn Family Robinson centers on the patriarch of a family, to be played by Carell, who relocates his family from city life to island life.’

There’s no news on when we might get to see the movie.

Josh Hutcherson & Jena Malone Become Hunger Games: Mockingjay Living Portraits

July 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-mockingjay-snow-portrait-slideLionsgate continues its Hunger Games: Mockingjay marketing effort where it’s bringing us messages from the Capitol resigned to quell rebellion in the Districts with a mix of platitudes and veiled threats about what will happen if they don’t quieten down.

That continues with the ‘living portraits’ below, featuring Peeta and Johanna, who are essentially being held hostage by President Snow and used in his efforts to end the disquiet – and of course showing them off shows Katniss that she’s risking their lives by doing anything troublesome.

Take a look at the portraits and the Capitol’s messages about them below. [Read more…]

First The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies Poster For Comic Con

July 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hobbit-3-comic-con-posterIn five months time the journey of The Hobbit comes to an end with The Battle Of The Five Armies. We’ve yet to see a trailer, but we do now have a poster, which has been released especially for Comic Con.

The image sees Bard The Bowman (Luke Evans) facing the enormous Smaug as he prepares to defend Laketown.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on December 17, The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

‘Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

‘As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.’

We Are The Canvas In A New Mr. Turner Poster

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mr-Turner-quadFollowing some amazing reviews at Cannes, Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner is heading towards its October 31st UK release.

To get us interested a new quad poster has been released, where Timothy Spall literally treats it like a canvas.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘‘MR. TURNER’ explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) [played by Timothy Spall]. Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies. Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.’

Robert Sheehan, Jack Fox & Lily Cole Head For The Messenger

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-sheehanAs principal photography commences it’s been confirmed that Robert Sheehan (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Misfits), Jack Fox (Dracula, Fresh Meat), Lily Cole (The Moth Diaries, Snow-white and the Huntsman) David O’Hara (Reach Me, The Departed) and Tamzin Merchant (Jane Eyre, The Tudors) are all set to star in the Brit drama, The Messenger.

The film is written by Andrew Kirk and will be directed by double BAFTA and Emmy award-winning director David Blair (Best Laid Plans, Accused). Interestingly although the synopsis could be read as a straightforward drama, producer Terry Stone ways, “The Sixth Sense was one of my favourite films and when I first read The Messenger I was reminded of that film. When a screenplay makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up you know you have to get it made.”

Here is that synopsis: ‘To the outside world looking in, Jack’s not well. He’s been in and out of secure units all of his young life, had every drug they can throw at him, every treatment they can think of… but nothing can make the dead go away, they always find a way through.

‘The Messenger is the story of Jack’s last melt down: a story of frustration and guilt, love and betrayal, family and blame. Unwillingly becoming embroiled in the unfinished business of Mark, a journalist brutally murdered in the local park and his television presenter wife, Sarah, to whom he’s desperate to say one last goodbye, Jack finds himself getting closer to Sarah, obsessed with passing on Mark’s message.

‘Discovering hidden secrets and lies finally pushes the fragile Jack over the edge but there is hope when his estranged sister, Emma, gets in touch. Jack starts to remember the past they shared together and as the memories come flooding back, he starts to confront the truth about the death of his father.’

Nightcrawler Teaser – Jake Gyllenhaal is an intense guy looking for work

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nightcrawler-teaserThe makers of Nightcrawler have tried something a bit different with some of the first marketing for the movie, as rather than releasing a normal teaser trailer, they posted a Craigslist ad, linked to a video where Jake Gyllenhaal is a hard worker seeking employment.

It’s an interesting way of doing things, especially as the makers have deliberately been keeping quiet about the exact plot, other than that it centres on ‘a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of LA freelance crime journalism’.

Dan Gilroy wrote the script and makes his directorial debut with the movie, which is due out later this year.

And as you’ll see below, this is the film that saw the actor becoming scarily skinny. [Read more…]

Predestination Trailer – Ethan Hawke tracks criminals through time

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

predestination-ethan-hawkeEthan Hawke has a decent success with Daybreakers. Now he’s reteaming with the directors of that movie, Michael and Peter Spierig, for the sci-fi movie, Predestination, based on Robert Heinlein’s 1958 short story, All You Zombies.

The trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Predestination chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to ensure the continuation of his law enforcement career for all eternity. Colin Trevorrow Brings Us A Jurassic World Comic-Con Poster

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-comic-con-posterComic Con kicks off in a couple of days, and to make sure we’re thinking about what Jurassic World is going to bring, director Colin Trevorrow has released the poster above on Twitter.

He also included the message, ‘Exclusive Jurassic World art from @MarkEnglert, available at SDCC to a resourceful few.’

There won’t be a full panel for the film (Universal is the only one of the studios that won’t have a major presence in the massive Hall H), but hopefully there’ll be more than just this poster in San Diego.

Jurassic World is currently shooting with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson and Judy Greer starring. The film will take place in a fully operational Jurassic Park that’s already accepting tourists – although inevitably things go wrong. It’ll be in cinemas June 2015.

Amy Ryan, Alan Alda & Billy Magnussen Join Tom Hanks In Steven Spielberg’s Cold War Thriller

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amy-ryanA couple of months ago Steven Spielberg set his next two movies – an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG and before that a currently untitled Cold War thriller that will reunite him with Tom Hanks. The latter movie is due to start shooting in September, so there’s not too much time for the director to fill out the rest of the cast.

Mark Rylance is already on-board and now Deadline reports that Amy Ryan, Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen and Eve Hewson are all in talks for the film.

Based on a true story, Tom Hanks is set to play American lawyer James Donovan, who is tasked by the US government to negotiate the release of American U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers after his aircraft crashes in the Soviet Union.

Amy Ryan is set to be Donovan’s wife, although it’s not clear who Alda, Magnussen and Hewson will play.

Spielberg is directing from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen.

And if you need evidence of why it’s great news Billy Magnussen will be in the film, take a look at the pic below. [Read more…]
