Will Smith Finds Brilliance With A New Sci-fi Thriller

February 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smithIn recent years Will Smith hasn’t made that many movies, but he’s now considering a new one, as TheWrap reports Smith is in early talks to star in Legendary Pictures and Universal’s sci-fi thriller Brilliance.

David Koepp (Jurassic Park) came up with the script, based on the Marcus Sakey novel. The book is set in a world where special individuals known as ‘brilliants’ have heightened abilities. The plot follows a government agent whose ‘brilliant’ gift is tracking down terrorists. However he may have met his match when tasked to find a dangerous man in Wyoming with his own set of special skills.

The film could become the start of a franchise, as the novel is the first of a planned trilogy.

Julius Onah is set to direct, although it’s not clear when it will shoot.

New 22 Jump Street Trailer – Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum are back and trying to improvise

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are a lot of people looking forward to 22 Jump Street, and to help keep fans of the first film from going stir crazy waiting for part two, a new trailer has been released. It’s a lot of fun, as you’d hope from what should be one of the big comedies of the summer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.’

The film’s due out in June. [Read more…]

Danny Boyle Working On Billie Jean King ‘Battle Of The Sexes’ Biopic

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-boyleDanny Boyle may have decided on a new movie as PageSix reports that the director is thinking of reteaming with Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours writer Simon Beaufoy and producer Christian Colson on a biopic of tennis legend Billie Jean King.

The movie will focus on her match against Bobby Riggs in 1973, which was recently the subject of the documentary The Battle of the Sexes. After self-proclaimed chauvinist Bobby Riggs’ declarated that the female game was inferior and that a top woman player couldn’t beat him even at the age of 55, he challenged King to a match, but she declined. Margaret Court then the top female player in the world – but lost in straight sets, seemingly confirming Riggs’ claims.

King wasn’t going to stand for that and agreed to play Bobby in what became a nationally televised media sensation.

It was an important time in King’s life for another reason too, as for the first time she’s relatively recently become involved in a relationship with a woman, even though she was still married to a man at the time.

Boyle and Beaufoy have apparently already met with King and plans to have more meeting as they get to work on the script. It’s now known if this will be his next movie, but a Danny Boyle sports biopic would certainly be interesting.

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

norman-reedusNorman Reedus got a lot of new fans thanks to The Walking Dead. Now he’s keeping it in the zombie series family as he’s teaming with Walking Dead executive producer and comic book creator Robert Kirkman, for the sci-fi thriller Air, according to THR. Jai Courtney Lands Kyle Reese Role In Terminator: Genesis

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jai-Courtney2-slideLast week it was reported that producers were closing in on who they wanted to play Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis. It was down to Boyd Holbrook and Jai Courtney. Now THR reports that it’s Courtney who’s got the part.

The actor joins Jason Clarke as John Connor and Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. Arnold Schwarzengger is also returning. In the original 1984 classic The Terminator, Kyle Reese (played by Michael Biehn) was the soldier sent back in time by resistance leader John Connor to save his mother Sarah. He ultimately became John’s Connor’s father.

Genesis is being planned as the beginning of a new, stand-alone trilogy. It’s believed that the story will take place both in the future and in an undetermined time in the past (not least because the actor playing John is significantly older than who will be his mother), most likely before John was even born.

Alan Taylor is directing from a script by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis.

First Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer – The Marvel movie is looking pretty cool & so is Chris Pratt

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Guardians Of The Galaxy was first announced, a few people were left scratching their heads. Most who weren’t comic fans had never heard of it, and when they found out it was set in space but featured a living tree and a talking raccoon, many were ready the pass it off as a major mistake on Marvel’s part. However now the first trailer is here and it’s looking really cool and as if it could be a lot of fun.

‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’

Marvel has obviously learned a lot from their previous films, and seems to have smartly gone for an outer space look that’s grimy enough to be believable, while having plenty of humour to help keep the whole moving along. No we can’t wait to see the whole thing!

Take a look at the trailer above and some images from it below… [Read more…]

The Double Trailer – Fresh look at Jesse Eisenberg in Richard Ayoade’s film

February 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Richard Ayoade impressed many when he turned from comedy actor to director with Submarine. Now he’s got his follow-up coming, which is perhaps a little more ambitious as it stars Jesse Eisenberg and is based on a story by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams, Hannah, played by Mia Wasikowska. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.’

The movie’s due out in the UK on April 4th. [Read more…]
