First Look At Sean Penn Looking Dirty & Armed In The Gunman

July 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sean-penn-The-Gunman
Sean Penn may have only just started shooting The Gunman recently, but the first image from the movie has already been released, via USA Today, showing Penn looking a bit stressed, dirty and, as the title suggests, holding a gun.

The Gunman is based on a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette. It follows an international operative, Jim Terrier (Penn), who is betrayed by his handlers and goes on the run. Penn tells USA Today, “Calling it an ‘action film’ is kind of like calling Meryl Streep a sexy blonde chick. She is. But that really doesn’t tell the story of what she is at all.”

He adds, “I don’t separate this in my mind from anything else I have done. It’s a very human story that deals with the same things exploited in action films, like warfare.”

The film also stars Jasmine Trinca as Terrier’s love interest, Javier Bardem as her husband, Idris Elba as a mysterious operative, Ray Winstone as Penn’s mentor, and Mark Rylance as one of his enemies. It’s currently filming in Europe with Pierre Morel directing.

John Lithgow Signs Up For Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

July 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-lithgowBeing one of the top directors in Hollywood certainly means a lot of people want to work with you and Christopher Nolan is taking advantage of that, gathering an excellent cast for the upcoming Interstellar.

The latest to sign up, according to TheWrap, is John Lithgow, who joins the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, and Mackenzie Foy in the movie.

As always with Nolan, the plot details are deliberately being kept fuzzy, but it’s reportedly based on physicist Kip S. Thorne’s theory that wormholes actually exist and can be used for time travel. The movie is said to revolve around a journey into outer space that pushes humanity’s knowledge of science and technology. The secrecy around the project means we have no idea who Lithgow will play.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Shooting will start in a couple of months time, with a November 2014 release date already set.

Jessica Chastain Joins Javier Bardem In A Most Violent Year

July 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jessica-ChastainJessica Chastain is quite good at picking movies, as while they don’t always make big bucks at the box office, they’re nearly always worth a watch. Now she’s got a new one, as Variety reports the Mama and Zero Dark Thirty actress is up for A Most Violent Year, starring opposite Javier Bardem, with JC Chandor (Margin Call) directing.

No official plot details have been released for the movie, although a fansite for the director says that, ‘Bardem will reportedly play the ‘good guy’, an ambitious businessman who is forced to deal with a corrupt establishment in 1980s New York.’

Even that could be wrong, as Chandor is keeping his cards very close to his chest on this one, and there’s absolutely no word on who Chastain will play. She’s always a good choice though, so hopefully she’ll bring some class to the proceedings.

It’s suggested the film will start shooting in New York next month.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 is hoping to make a big splash at Comic-Con this weekend, and ahead of that they’ve released a new banner image, which gives us our first look at the logo, as well as a fresh look at the new Spidey suit.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.

‘Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.’

Tom Hanks & Ron Howard Reuniting For Dan Brown’s Inferno

July 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

angels-and-demons-tom-hanksAfter Angels & Demons, plans were made to turn Dan Brown’s next Robert Langdon novel, The Lost Symbol, into a movie. However it now appears they’re jumping over that one and going straight to the recently released Inferno, with Deadline reporting that Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are both set to return for the movie. A December 18, 2015 release date is already set.

Tom Hanks is reprising his Robert Langdon role from The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, with Ron Howard directing from an adapted screenplay by David Koepp (Spider-man, Jurassic Park).

Here’s the official description of the novel from Dan Brown’s website: ‘In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces… Dante’s Inferno.

‘Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust… before the world is irrevocably altered.’

Presumably it was thought that The Lost Symbol, which is set amongst some of Washington’s most iconic buildings, would be too difficult to make, but that Inferno will be possible.

12 Years A Slave Trailer – Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch & Brad Pitt take on an incredible true story

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Now here’s a film that’s definitely hoping to be in the Oscar race. 12 Years a Slave is based on a fascinating and Oscar-worthy story, and also has a great cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, John Ridley. Brad Pitt, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Scoot McNairy, Garret Dillahunt and Alfre Woodard. And with Shame’s Steven McQueen directing, perhaps we should just give it the awards right now.

The movie is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in the mid-19th Century who was kidnapped in Washington and sold into slavery. He was rescued from a Louisiana cotton plantation in 1853.

It’s due in cinemas at the end of the year, but take a look at the riveting trailer below. [Read more…]

Margot Robbie Comes Into Focus, Starring Opposite Will Smith

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

margot-robbieMargot Robbie’s career should get a good boost soon thanks to a major role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, and now she’s following that up with another big movie, as Variety reports that she’s landed the female lead opposite Will Smith in Focus.

The likes of Michelle Williams, Jessica Biel and Rose Byrne and Olivia Munn also tested for the role over the last few weeks, with the part coming down to a contest between Robbie and Munn. No official offer has apparently been made, but insiders says Robbie is the one who’s been chosen.

Smith and Robbie is certainly a different pairing than was originally planned, as the first idea was to have Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone re-team for the con-man movie, but timings couldn’t be worked out. Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck were also considered for the male lead, with Kristen Stewart also flirted with for the movie.

Now it finally seems the cast is sorted and the film can move forward, with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa directing. It ‘follows an inexperienced female con artist who teams up with a more seasoned male one’.

Comic-Con Posters: Godzilla, I Frankenstein, Thor: The Dark World & Carrie

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Godzilla-comic-con-mondo-poster
With Comic-Con kicking off in just a couple of days, the movie studios are already trying to build the hype for their upcoming movies, which includes releasing a slew of posters for those film that will be filling the halls this weekend in San Diego. Now we have a rather cool trio of posters for the Aaron Eckhart movie I,  Frankenstein, a banner for the remake of Carrie, a Thor: The Dark World concept art image, and as you can see above, a great new mondo poster for Godzilla.

The giant lizard film is expected to be one of the biggest movies at Comic-Con this weekend, with Warner promising a massive presentation and plenty of other things going on in relation to the film.

The movie, starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Sally Hawkins and Juliette Binoche, is said to be closer to the tone of the Japanese originals than Roland Emmerich’s 1990s movie. The Gareth Edwards directed film hits cinemas May 16th 2014.

I, Frankenstein is based on Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel of the same name about Adam Frankenstein (Aaron Eckhart), the creation of Dr. Frankenstein, who is still alive centuries after his ‘birth’. Adam is hunted down by a clan of demons who want to learn Adam’s secret in order to reanimate deceased demons and start a new army. Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, Bill Nighy and Aden Young also star. It’s due in cinemas next January.

Based on Stephen King’s debut novel, the remake of Carrie sees Chloe Moretz take over the title role of the girl on the edge of adolescence, whose problem with bullies and a terrifying mother become dangerous when she develops telekinetic powers. It’s due out in October.

Thor: The Dark World is, of course, the follow-up to Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers, with Chris Hemsworth back as the Norse god. This time he must prevent an ancient race, led by the vengeful Malekith, from plunging the universe back into darkness. It’s due in cinemas in November.

All You Need Is Kill Becomes Edge Of Tomorrow, With A New Poster For The Tom Cruise Flick

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

edge-of-tomorrow-poster1
Just yesterday we posted a new image from the Tom Cruise sci-fi All You Need Is Kill, but what hadn’t been revealed at the time was that a new title had already been decided on- Edge Of Tomorrow. Many had expected a change, as the original name was a rather awkward gaming in-joke, even if it was the title of the graphic novel it’s based on).

Warner Bros. has also revealed that the film is a last-minute addition to Comic-Con, and they’ll debut the first footage from the film on Saturday. It’s believed it’ll be part of Warner Bros./Legendary Entertainment’s presentation, which also includes Godzilla, Seventh Son, 300: Rise of an Empire, Gravity, and The Lego Movie).

And to show it really does have a new name, the studio has released the first poster, which you can see above.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

‘But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.’

It’s due out June 2014.

Lucas Till Returns For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lucas-till-x-men-days-of-future-past-tweet
While a lot of people from both the earlier X-Men films and First Class have been confirmed to be coming back for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, there’s been no news on Lucas Till, who played Alex Summer/Havok in First Class.

Now Bryan Singer has confirmed that he will indeed return, tweeting a picture of the actor on the set, along with the message, ‘”Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.” -JFK’

That quote and the military uniform seems to suggest that Havok is going into battle, and as he’s surrounded by what appear to be other mutants, it’s possible he’s in Vietnam as part of a secret X-unit in the early 70s.

It also appears some other details about the movie have leaked, including info on exactly who will be time-travelling in the movie. The plot revolves around the First Class mutants getting a message brought to them from the future, with info that they must prevent an assassination in order to stop events unfolding that result in mutants being locked up in concentration camps, and the terrifying sentinels monitoring the Earth.

If you wants to know those leaked plot details, head over to Vulture.

Plenty more info about the film is promised at the film’s panel happens on Saturday at Comic-Con, with Fox hoping to get us excited for the film’s July 18th 2014 release.
