Russian Jaeger Cherno Alpha Pacific Rim Poster Released

March 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pacific-rim-new-poster3
Yesterday we posted a Pacific Rim poster featuring Japan’s jaeger (giant robot), Coyote Tango. Today it’s the turn of Russia, with its massive, bucket-headed jaeger, Cherno Alpha.

Guillermo Del Toro directs this sci-fi action-thriller, which is set 15 years after enormous kaiju monsters began attacking Earth from some sort of portal deep in the Pacific. This leads each major country to build their own gigantic robot known as a jaeger, to combat these nefarious beasts. In the new poster, Cherno Alpha is shown protecting the snowy Pacific edge of Russia.

Pacific Rim comes to theaters July 12th, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman and Robert Kazinsky.

Independence Day Sequels Plot Details Revealed

March 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smith-independence-dayIndependence Day 2 & 3 are sequel ideas that never die, with director Roland Emmerich and star Will Smith often hinting that they’re still in the works, but it’s only been recently that there’s seemed to be real impetus behind the idea – even though they’re still a fair way off – with the titles ID Forever Part One and ID Forever Part Two recently revealed.

Now Emmerich has given some info about the proposed plots of the sequels, which suggest they may be hoping to get Independence Day 2 in cinemas in three years time, exactly two decades after the first film. The filmmaker revealed to EW that the follow-up’s story is set 20 years after the first movie, centring on a distress call that was made by the first wave of aliens in Independence Day.

He says, “The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years.”

Roland Emmerich wrote the screenplays for both ID Forever – Part 1 and ID Forever – Part 2, but now he’s handed them over to his White House Down writer, James Vanderbilt, to do a rewrite.

The director also said that the humans have embraced the alien technology in the years following the initial attack. “It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history,” he says. “[Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.”

Independence Day star Bill Pullman is on board for both movies, although Will Smith has not been confirmed quite yet. The filmmaker revealed this story will focus on a new generation of heroes, including the stepson of Will Smith’s character, played by Ross Bagley in the original. “It’s still some of the same characters, but also new younger characters; it’s a little bit like the sons take over. The first one ends on a little success, but only enough to give the humans hope. And then in the second one they free themselves again [from the aliens].”

A 3D version of the original Independence Day Is due in cinemas this summer, and if that’s a success, it’ll certainly give more impetus to the sequels.

Katherine Heigl & Patrick Wilson Head North of Hell

March 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

patrick-wilsonKatherine Heigl has mainly been busy being a new mom for the last year or so, but now she’s returning, and thankfully it’s not for yet another generic rom-com (at least it doesn’t look like it, but with Heigl you never know). Instead she’s joining Patrick Wilson in North of Hell for director Anthony Burns (Skateland), according to Deadline.

The movie is about Don Champagne (Wilson), who’s a successful businessman who seems to be living the good life. What most don’t know, however, is that behind the scenes his incredibly domineering wife (Heigl) viciously controls every aspect of his well-being.

Anthony Burns is directing from his own screenplay, which is based on an original story by Carlo Allen, Ted Elrick, and Tom Lavagnino. Shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Louisiana.

Tom Hiddleston Joins The Muppets…Again!

March 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hiddleston at The Avengers LA PremiereThe Muppets…Again! may have been shooting for several weeks, but it’s never too late to add a cameo – indeed we’ve been promised quite a few in the movie. The latest to join is Tom Hiddleston, who according to the MuppetHenson blog, has landed a small role in the movie.

While Disney owns both The Muppets and Marvel, he’s not playing Loki in the film, although that would have been oddly awesome. According to Hiddleston’s online CV, he’s playing someone called The Great Escapo, who is presumably a magician, although we don’t know exactly how he’ll fit into the movie.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘Disney’s ‘The Muppets …Again!’ takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theatres in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of ‘Derek’ and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’. The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (‘30 Rock’, ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Date Night’) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s ‘Modern Family’) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.’

Finding Nemo Clip – Reunite with Nemo & Gill to celebrate the 3D release

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Finding Nemo hits UK cinemas in 3D for the first time on March 29th, and to celebrate Disney has provided us with a clip to refresh our memories of the exceedingly charming movie. It features Nemo and Gill (Willem Dafoe) discussing methods of escape.

On the 3D version, director Andrew Stanton commented, “Watching the first few scenes from ‘Finding Nemo’ in 3D was like I’d never seen a 3D movie before. It took my breath away. It felt like I was more underwater. It makes the scary moments scarier. It makes the beautiful moments more beautiful. It really drops you deeper into the story. It just amplifies everything.”

With its ocean setting, it’s certainly the sort of movie 3D seems to be made for. Watch the clip below. [Read more…]

Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb & Christian Madsen Join Divergent

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

New-Divergent-CastSummit Entertainment is hoping to get Divergent into production fairly soon, but they’ve bot a lot of roles to fill before then. Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Englert and Maggie Q are already cast, and now it’s been announced they’ve been joined by Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb and Christian Madsen.

The futuristic action adventure, based on author Veronica Roth’s best seller, will be directed by Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor and commences principal photography this April in Chicago. The film is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

Ben Lloyd-Hughes, who was recently seen in Great Expectations, will play Will, an intelligent, Euridite-born trainee who befriends Tris during their training.

Ben Lamb will play Edward, one of the better-performing trainees in Tris’ faction, which makes him a target amongst his peers. Finally, Christian Madsen (son of Michael) will play Al, a timid Candid-born trainee who has a hard time adjusting to his training and develops a crush on Tris. Madsen appeared in the film In Time and Gia Coppola’s upcoming drama Palo Alto.

Summit will release the film theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21st, 2014. Neil burger directs.

Charlize Theron To Star In And Produce New Crime Thriller

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronCharlize Theron seems to be adding an awful lot of movies to her development slate at the moment, and now she’s got another, as THR says she has signed on to star in and produce a currently untitled crime thriller for Paramount Pictures.

The Killing writer Dan Nowak wrote the screenplay, which is about a corrupt group of vigilantes. The story has been compared to The Departed and last year’s hit End of Watch. No details have been revealed about Theron’s character.

This project is the latest in a string of projects Charlize Theron has set up as both an actress and producer. She is starring in and producing Gone Girl for director David Fincher, and we reported last week that she is attached as an actress and producer on the Skydance Productions comedy Ladies Night, among others.

UFC’s Georges St. Pierre Joining Captain America 2 As Batroc The Leper?

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Georges-St-PierreIt looks like Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier may be adding current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre to its cast, as Latino Review says he’s in talks to play Georges Batroc, a.k.a. Batroc the Leaper.

Assuming he can act, St. Pierre should be a good fit for the role, as the character is a French kickboxing champion. Batroc made his debut in a 1966 issue of Marvel’s Tales of Suspense. While he has primarily done battle with Captain America in the comic books, he has also fought against Iron Fist, The Punisher, Deadpool, Hawkeye, and Gambit.

While Batroc does not have any superpowers, he is an expert martial artist, specializing in the French kickboxing style known as savate. His leg muscles are extremely over-developed, which allows him to leap greater distances than most humans. He also served in the French Foreign Legion, and speaks both English and French fluently. It isn’t known how this character will fit into the sequel’s story line.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Shooting it due to start later this year.

He’s then tasked with guiding the President (Jamie Foxx) to safety. Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, Lance Reddick and Joey King also star.

Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher To Play Ninja Turtles

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

turtles-castWith shooting set to start next month, director Jonathan Liebesman is busy casting his Ninja Turtles. A couple of days ago it was revealed Alan Ritchson (Aquaman on Smallville) will play Raphael, and now he’s got his Leonardo, Michaelangelo and Donatello, with Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher taking the roles, according to Deadline.

Pete Ploszek only has two credits to his name with bit parts on Showtime’s Shameless and NBC’s Parks and Recreation, so this is a bit of a step up for him, even if audiences won’t get to see him, as the Turtles will be rendered using motion capture CGI. He’s playing Leonardo, the blue masked katana expert of the group. He is the oldest turtle, and considered the leader.

Jeremy Howard will Donatello, the scientist and smartest of the turtles, who wears a purple mask and is a master of the bo staff. Howard played Sketchy on Breaking Bad and has a lot of one-off TV credits to his name.

Noel Fisher is probably the most recognisable of the bunch, popping up in various TV shows, including a recurring role Shameless, a major role in Hatfields & McCoys, and a supporting part in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. He’ll be Michelangelo, the orange-masked master of the nunchaku. He is the most free-spirited of the turtles, and serves as the comic relief.

The only human character cast so far is Megan Fox, who it’s assumed will be playing TV reporter April O’Neil.
