Take A Look At The New Amazing Spider-man 2 Suit

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-suit
Last week Marc Webb tweeted a pic that suggested a slightly different look for Spidey in The Amazing Spider-man 2, and now ComingSoon, has managed to get hold of a better look, showing us the larger eyes and slightly changes to the colour and texture. Indeed it’s closer to the comic look than any of the previous movies.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.

‘Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.’

The film’s due out May 2nd 2014.

Kon-Tiki Trailer – New promo for the Oscar-nominated flick

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kon-Tiki may have missed out on the Best Foreign Language film Oscar to Amour last night, but it still certainly seems like it’ll be worth a look (although watching this trailer, I’m not sure why it was in the Best Foreign Language category as everyone appears to speak English, but presumably there’s some Norwegian in the actual movie).

Here’s the synopsis for the biopic: ‘In 1947, the world is gripped with excitement as the young Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl embarks on an astonishing expedition – a journey of 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean on the Kon-Tiki raft. From his days living in the Marquesas with his wife Liv, Thor suspected that the South Sea Islands had been settled by ancient South Americans from thousands of miles to the east. Despite his inability to swim and fear of water, Thor decides to prove his theory by sailing the legendary voyage himself. After replicating the design of an ancient raft in balsa wood, Thor and five fellow adventurers set sail from Peru. Their only modern equipment is a radio, and they take a parrot along for company. A natural leader, Thor uses the stars and the ocean’s current to navigate the raft. After three dangerous months on the open sea, encountering raging storms, sharks, and all the dangers the Ocean can muster, the exhausted crew sight Polynesia and make a triumphant landing. Having sacrificed everything for his mission, even his marriage, the success of the Kon-Tiki expedition proves bittersweet for Thor.’

No UK release date is currently set, but it’ll be out in the US on April 19th. [Read more…]

Simon Killer Trailer – Take a look at the audience dividing Sundance flick

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the more controversial audience-dividers at this year’s Sundance was Simon Killer, and now we can get our first look at the movie with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The follow-up to Antonio Campos’ critically acclaimed AFTERSCHOOL, SIMON KILLER is an erotic and and psychological portrait of Simon (Brady Corbet, MELANCHOLIA, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE), a well-educated, handsome and seemingly sympathetic college graduate with just a hint of something off putting enough to ignite a sense of concern.

‘Recently heartbroken, Simon travels to Paris to clear his head. After several days of wandering aimlessly, Simon finds himself drawn into a sex parlor and has a sexual encounter with an exotic prostitute, Victoria (Mati Diop, 35 SHOTS OF RUM). The chemistry builds between the two until they find themselves in a serious relationship, one that leads to blackmail, betrayal and the ultimate revelation of Simon’s true nature.’

The movie hits the US & UK in April. [Read more…]

Iron Man 3 Pepper Potts Character Poster Arrives

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-pepper-potts-character-posterOver the past couple of weeks, the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley have all gotten their own Iron Man 3 character posters. Now it’s the turn of Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s returning as Pepper Potts.

I’m sure the image above is meant to show her tenderly cradling a damaged Iron Man mask, as she worries about Tony Stark. However it does slightly look like she’s ripped his head off. Who knows, perhaps she turns evil in the movie!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test hismettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his owndevices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest tohim. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?’

It hits UK cinemas April 26th. (Image via Empire)

Identity Thief Goes Back To The Top Of The Us Box Office

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the box office usually being fairly open over the Oscar weekend, it was a particularly bad time for new movies, as the Dwayne Johnson action flick Snitch just missed out on the top spot, taking $13 million to place second. That allowed Identity Thief to return to the top, adding another $14 million, to take its total so far in American to $93 million.

There was only one other new entry in the top 10, the sci-fi horror Dark Skies, which could only place sixth with $8.8 million – although as it only cost $3.5 million to make, it’s by no means a disaster.

If Bruce Willis was hoping A Good Day To Die Hard would have a long run at the US box office, he’s likely to be disappointed, as the film plummeted from first to fifth spot over the weekend, dropping 60% to take $10 million over the three days. At least the film is still top of the international box office, with those outside the US still enjoying a bit of John McLane.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of February 22nd-24th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Identity Thief $14.0 $93.6
2 Snitch $13.0 $13.0
3 Escape From Planet Earth $11.0 $35.1
4 Safe Haven $10.6 $48.0
5 A Good Day To Die Hard $10.0 $51.8
6 Dark Skies $8.8 $8.8
7 Silver Linings Playbook $6.0 $107.4
8 Warm Bodies $4.7 $58.2
9 Side Effects $3.5 $25.2

Argo Takes The Best Picture Oscar – See The Full List Of Winners!

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

argo-posterIt was undoubtedly one of the most open Oscar races for years, with the result that rather than one film sweeping the entire thing, the Academy has spread the cheer amongst a bunch of movie. The winner of the big prize was Argo, marking one of the few times the Best Picture Oscar has gone to a film whose helmer wasn’t even nominated for Best Director. The film also won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing

Although Best Picture and Best Director usually go hand-in-hand, that couldn’t happen this time, and so it was Ang Lee who scooped the gong for Life Of Pi. It’s the second time he’s picked up the award for a film that didn’t win Best Picture (after Brokeback Mountain).

In the acting categories, Daniel Day Lewis became the first man to win three Best Actor Oscars after winning for Lincoln, while Jennifer Lawrence become the second youngest Best Actress Oscar winner ever (she’s 22, while Marlee Matlin was 21) when she picked up the gong for Silver Linings Playbook.

Christoph Waltz took Best Supporting Actor, making it his second Tarantino film in a row to scoop him the award. And as expected, Best Supporting Actress went to Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables, in what was seen as one of the few certain categories of the night.

The Oscars spread the love in the other categories, with Skyfall winning Best Song, Brave picking up best Animated Feature and Amour getting the Best Foreign Language film. Even Anna Karenina won a gong for best Costumes.

First Look At Robert De Niro & Sylvester Stallone In Grudge Match

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Grudge-Match-set-photoWhoever had the idea of putting Sylvester ‘Rocky’ Stallone and Robert ‘Raging Bull’ De Niro in a boxing movie together was a pretty smart cookie. The film, Grudge Match, is now shooting, and we’ve got our first look via a set photo release by @W_Whitehill on Twitter, featuring De Niro, Stallone and basketball star Robin Lopez.

The film is about two retired boxers (De Niro and Stallone) who step back into the ring to settle an old score. Jon Bernthal will play De Niro’s estranged son, who feels conflicted about training his father. Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger, and Alan Arkin have also signed on to star.

Peter Segal is directing, with a release planned for later this year.

Rio 2 Adds Bruno Mars & Kristin Chenoweth, With Anne Hathaway & Jesse Eisenberg Returning

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bruno-marsThe avian fun of Rio grossed nearly $500 million around the world and so it’s little surprise Fox is keen to make a sequel. Now the studio has announced the cast for Rio 2, which is already in production at Blue Sky Studios. It’ll be released around the world in March and April 2014.

Most of the original cast are back, with Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro, Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, Jake T. Austin, and Jamie Foxx all set to return. They’ll be joined by Rio newbies including Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Rita Moreno, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Crow, Pierce Gagnon, and news anchor Natalie Morales. Unfortunately there’s no info on exactly who they will play.

In Rio, rare parrots we find Blu, Jewel and their three kids are living the perfect domesticated life in that magical city. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild.

Carlos Saldanha, who was inspired to create the film based upon his experiences growing up in Rio De Janiero, returns to direct.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Victory Tour Posters Emerge

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-victory-tour-poster1 If you win The Hunger Games you have to go on a tour around the district, and so in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, that’s exactly what Peeta and Katniss must do, whether they want to or not. Now two posters for this Victory Tour have been released, giving off a rather virginal, marriage feeling.

Here’s the synopsis: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The film’s due out November 22nd. It’ll be interesting to see if Lionsgate continue this marketing strategy, teasing us as if we were residents of Panem.

kodi-smit-mcpheeWith a May 23rd, 2014 release date already set, Fox knows it needs to get Dawn of the Planet of the Apes into production fairly soon, to ensure there’s enough time to sort out all the CGI apes. At the moment they’re busy putting the cast together.

Just a few days after Jason Clarke signed on to star in the movie, Deadline reports that teenager Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast as one of the leads.

The film with reunite Kodi with Let Me In director Matt Reeves on the film. The story is set 15 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and will follow a group of scientists who are trying to survive in a world that is fast being overrun by super-intelligent apes.
