Matthew Vaughn Producing Fantastic Four Reboot

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matthew-vaughn4Matthew Vaughn may have stepped out of the director’s chair of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but he’s sticking with Fox’s Marvel superhero movies, by signing up to produce the planned reboot of Fantastic Four, which Josh Trank is due to direct.

Mark Millar, who’s overseeing all of Fox’s Marvel-based movies, tweeted the news, saying “Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news – Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”

The film is a fairly long way from the screen though, with Fox not planning to get it into cinemas until spring 2015. They do have big plans though, with Millar saying a couple of months ago that the project will reinvent the superhero genre, with an approach we have never seen before – although he didn’t say quite what that meant.

New The Call Trailer – Halle Berry turns 911 call operator for Brad Anderson

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brad Anderson’s (The Machinist) new movie sees Jalle Berry as a 911 operator who gets call from a kidnapped teenager (Abigail Breslin). She soon realises that the abduction has ties to an incident from her past, and that she must face her demons if the girl is to get out alive.

It’s one of those premises that could make for an okay movie, but already sounds slightly unbelievable and OTT. Hopefully the film will be okay. Check out the trailer below.

No UK date is currently set, but it’s out in the US in March.

Iron Man 3 Mandarin Character Poster Arrives

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-mandarin-character-banner
We’ve had Iron Man 3 character posters for the likes of Tony Stark, Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes and Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian, and now it’s time for the movie’s main villain to get one – Ben Kingsley’s evil Mandarin.

Disney/Marvel has also provided a character description, which says, ‘Mandarin is the sinister head of the terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings, from which all the acts of extreme terrorism plaguing the world appear to emanate. Although he is reclusive, Mandarin wields great power and makes his presence known by striking fear in the government and the populace through his brazen plans of attack.’

In the movie the Mandarin targets Tony Stark, with his world reduced to rubble by a malevolent enemy and must use his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him as he seeks to destroy the enemy and his cohorts.

It hits UK cinemas on April 26th.

Taylor Kitsch Joins The Horror-Thriller Exit 147

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Taylor Kitsch shirtlessThis time last year the world seemed to be Taylor Kitsch’s oyster, but then John Carter flopped, Battleship underperformed and even Savages was largely ignored. Now he’s looking towards slightly smaller movies, hoping that people will ignore the high profile failures and realise he’s actually a pretty good actor.

Bloody Disgusting reports he’s now signed up for the horror-thriller Exit 147, with Julian Jarrold (Kinky Boots, Red Riding 1974) directing from a script by Pandorum’s Travis Malloy. The film is about, ‘a man driving across the desert at night who is arrested by a small town sheriff (Kitsch) and held captive as part of his own sadistic game.’

It’ll certainly be a darker role than we’re used to for Kitsch. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Adam Sandler Plans A New Rom-Com With Drew Barrymore

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adam-SandlerFor a while Adam Sandler has been putting together a western comedy called Ridiculous 6, but it appears that film is now being put on hold while they work on it some more, and instead Sandler is pushing forward with a currently untitled romantic comedy being developed by Warner Bros.

Variety also reports he is hoping to re-team with The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates co-star Drew Barrymore on the film, although it doesn’t appear that she’s signed up yet.

The movie is about two divorced people who, after a bad blind date, find themselves stuck in a resort together with a family environment. They try to resist the urge to fall back in love, but this being a rom-com, the attraction inevitably build.

Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera wrote the script. It’s not known when it will shoot, it’s expected to move forward very quickly now that Sandler has opened his schedule for it.

Megan Fox Reuniting With Michael Bay For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

megan-foxWhen Megan Fox was dumped from Transformers 3 amid some anger over comments she’d made about Michael Bay’s directing style that the helmer took badly, it didn’t look like they’d ever have anything to do with one another again. However they must have made up, as Michael Bay has revealed on his website that Fox has been cast in the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that he is producing.

There’s not much info from Bay, who merely writes, ‘TMNT: We Are Bringing Megan Fox Back Into The Family’

It isn’t known what role Megan Fox will play, but the speculation is that she will portray April O’Neill, the reporter who befriends the pizza-loving, be-shelled crime-fighters Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing from a screenplay by André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum. The movie is currently scheduled to be released May 16th, 2014, so expect more casting news soon.

James Marsden Joins Anchorman 2 As Ron Burgundy’s New Rival

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-marsdenWith Anchorman 2 gearing up to shoot, Adam McKay is filling in the new roles. Kristen Wiig recently signed on the star, and now Deadline says another new addition to the Anchorman family is James Marsden.

The actor will play what is described as a rival anchor and nemesis to Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy. Little is known about the story, except that it takes place in the late 1970s during the advent of the 24-hour news cycle. Needless to say, the Action 4 News team has trouble adapting to this news format, and we’d imagine Marsden will be a dashing younger newsman who challenges Ron’s more old-fashioned style

Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate are all reprising their Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy roles, with Adam McKay directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Will Ferrell. Production is scheduled to start next month in Atlanta.

Leonardo DiCaprio Will Take The Road Home

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

leo-dicaprioLeo DiCaprio attaching himself to a movie is a long way from him actually making it, as he likes to have a lot more films on his development slate than he’d ever have time to make. However he’s now added a new one, with Deadline reporting Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to Michael Armour novel The Road Home, which is being developed as a vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio to star in and produce.

The novel is set during the Great Depression and centres on Creek (DiCaprio), a war-torn Californian rancher who is asked to investigate a murder, a case which the local police are dragging their feet on.

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) will direct from his own screenplay adaptation. It’s not the first time DiCaprio and Cooper have worked together as Leo also produced Cooper’s upcoming thriller Out of the Furnace, which the actor was originally slated to star in.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Trailer – Take a look at Mira Nair’s film

February 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Reluctant Fundamentalist provoked some strong reactions – both positive and negative – during its festival fun last autumn. We’ll be able to find out for ourselves what the movie is like in April, when it arrives in cinemas, and ahead of that the trailer has now been released.

Here’s the synopsis of this adaptation of Mohsin Amid’s novel: ‘We begin in 2011 in Lahore. At an outdoor café a Pakistani man named Changez (Riz Ahmed) tells Bobby (Liev Schreiber), an American journalist, about his experiences in the United States. Roll back ten years, and we find a younger Changez fresh from Princeton, seeking fortune and glory on Wall Street. The American Dream seems well within his grasp, complete with a smart and gorgeous artist girlfriend, Erica (Kate Hudson).

But when the Twin Towers are attacked, a cultural divide slowly begins to crack open between Changez and Erica. Changez’s dream soon begins to slip into nightmare: profiled, wrongfully arrested, strip-searched and interrogated, he is transformed from a well-educated, upwardly mobile businessman to a scapegoat and perceived enemy. With time, he begins to hear the call of his own homeland. Taking us through the culturally rich and beguiling worlds of New York, Lahore and Istanbul, The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a story about conflicting ideologies where perception and suspicion have the power to determine life or death.’ [Read more…]

9 Director Shane Acker Takes On Animated Movie Beasts of Burden

February 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shane-ackerShane Acker made a strong debut with the excellent animated movie, 9, but sadly it didn’t really make much of an impact at the box office, and so we haven’t had anything from the director since. However now he’s heading back into the animation studio with an adaptation of the comic book, Beasts Of Burden.

According to a press release, ‘The project is an animated adventure about the baffling behavior (tail chasing, barking at “nothing” at all) of our favorite four-legged friends. In the charming town of Burden Hill, there might be more to these animal antics than meets the eye. The town is inhabited by the supernatural, and when its paranormal activity becomes even more abnormal than usual, it’s up to a group of fearless canines called the Watch Dogs to protect its citizens – and humanity – from the mysterious things that go “bump” in the night.’

Reel FX is producing the CG-animated film, adding it to their roster, which already includes the Day of the Dead-themed project, The Book of Life, with Guillermo del Toro producing and Jorge Gutierrez directing, and Turkeys, with Jimmy Hayward directing and Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson providing voices. Both of the films are due for release in 2014.
