Rings Trailer – Samara is back and being as creepy as ever

August 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rings-poster-slideWhile the US remake The Ring was a big success, its follow-up wasn’t so well received and it seemed that would be the last we’d see of the franchise. But as reboots are ridiculously popular, it’s coming back with Rings.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise.  A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.  She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…’

Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio star. You shouldn’t be too surprised to hear that it’ll be in cinemas at Halloween. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Manchester By The Sea Trailer – Casey Affleck becomes his nephew’s guardian in the acclaimed film

August 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

manchester-by-the-sea-slideManchester By The Sea got rave reviews when it debuted at Sundance, with some people immediately putting it in the Oscars race. Indeed, distributors Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions must agree, as they’ve given is an awards friendly November US release slot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After the death of his older brother Joe (Kyle Chandler), Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is shocked to learn that Joe has made him sole guardian of his nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges). Taking leave of his job, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea to care for Patrick, a spirited 15-year-old, and is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife Randi (Michelle Williams) and the community where he was born and raised.   Bonded by the man who held their family together, Lee and Patrick struggle to adjust to a world without him. In his first film since 2011’s acclaimed Margaret, Lonergan once again proves himself a powerful and visionary storyteller as he seamlessly weaves past and present together, crafting a tension-filled tale that deftly eschews sentimentality in favor of penetrating emotional insight and deeply affecting human relationships.’

A trailer has now arrived. Take a look at it below. [Read more…]

Doug Liman To Direct Justice League Dark Movie, Dark Universe

August 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

doug-limanIt’s all change in the world of superheroes. In 2013 Guillermo Del Toro revealed he was working on a comic book movie set in the world of DC’s Justice League Dark. However, he left the director’s chair and decided only to produce.

Doug Liman meanwhile has been attached to helm Fox’s X-Men spin-off Gambit, starring Channing Tatum. He’s now left that movie behind and will be replacing Del Toro on the Justice League Dark film, which is now called Dark Universe.

The movie will revolve around a grittier, darker version of Justice League, with Variety suggesting the film will include John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. However, exact plot details are being kept under wraps. Warner hopes that the movie will be a big part of their expanding DC Universe.

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders Trailer – Adam West & Burt Ward are back as Batman & Robin

August 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-return-of-the-caped-crusadersIt’s 50 years since Adam West and Burt Ward became a massive hit as TV’s psychedelic Batman and Robin. Now they’re back, but rather than having to squeeze into Lycra (or whatever passed for Lycra in the 60s), this time around it’s an animated movie that’s coming to DVD, Blu-ray and VoD.

A trailer has arrived which shows us this will be a return to the humour and look of the classic Batman, which is rather different from the grittier, animated Caped Crusader films we’ve had recently.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes – Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. This time, the four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil … and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!”’

New La La Land Teaser – Emma Stone Sings & Ryan Gosling smiles in the new musical

Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey Trailer – Terrence Malick goes into earth’s past & future

August 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Voyage-of-Time-slideAfter Terrence Malick shot a huge amount of footage for the bits of The Tree Of Life that went into Earth’s past and the natural world, it was revealed it was working on a documentary, based around that footage. As it’s Malick’s way, it’s taken him a while to put it together, but a 45-minute version debuted earlier this year (narrated by Brad Pitt), which will be getting an IMAX release later this year.

There’s also a 90-minute version, with a voiceover by Cate Blanchett, which has just debuted a beautiful and slightly hallucinatory new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The unfolding of the universe takes place before your eyes, in this experience for the senses, mind and soul. A labor of passion by director Terrence Malick (Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey is an exploration into our planetary past and a search for humanity’s place in the future. Humming with the energy of nature itself, the film melds innovative special effects with awe-inspiring footage from around the globe, in search of what lasts, what endures through time’s changing scenes.

‘What does it mean, after all those eons, to be us, here, now?

‘The action traces the scientific chronology of earth, from the birth of the stars to the explosion of new life, to the planet-altering debut of humankind. Malick invites audiences to probe past, present and future in intimate ways. Working with a team of scientific advisors and visual effects artists led by Dan Glass (The Tree of Life, Batman Begins, The Matrix Reloaded) the film shows an array of never-witnessed natural phenomena – celestial and terrestrial, macroscopic and microscopic – in a variety of new ways. The fierce geology of the early planet. The first cells, growing, dividing, exploring every niche open to them. The coming of fish, forests, dinosaurs and our own species with its need to reckon with everything – all this transforms into a hymn to nature, life and the universe. No two people will have the same experience.’ [Read more…]

Max Steel Trailer – A shirtless Ben Winchell brings the Hasbro superhero to life

August 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

max-steel-film-pic1-slideMax Steel is certainly taking its time. The first pics from the movie were released over two years ago, but we’re still waiting for a release. That’s hopefully changing though, with the first trailer arriving from Japan.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Max Steel is an in-depth “origin” story packed with captivating characters and fast-paced action. The plot chronicles the adventures of Max McGrath and his mother have just moved back to Copper Canyon, the town in which Max’s scientist father died in a mysterious accident shortly after Max was born. As Max adjusts to his new school, things get complicated when his body starts to generate strange energy flare-ups that he can’t control.

‘At first a confusing mix of inconvenient and exhilarating, this unpredictable power eventually grows too intense for Max to handle, causing him to distance himself from those around him including the girl he likes, Sofia. Eventually the energy pushes him to the verge of fatal combustion. In the nick of time, a techno-organic extraterrestrial named Steel, who has been secretly monitoring Max’s progress, saves him just before he loses consciousness. The two discover that when joined together they can control the energy and harness it into superhuman strength – and that when apart, neither can survive for long.

‘As these two unlikely friends learn to accept their connected fates, they begin to uncover secrets surrounding the death of Max’s father. As they dig deeper, they soon find themselves hunted by an unforeseen enemy bent on capturing Max and Steel for a sinister agenda of destruction. Uncertain who to trust, they will have to work together to find the truth, and fight the mysterious forces threatening our world.’

An October US cinema release is planned, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Ben Affleck To Star In & Direct Witness For The Prosecution Remake

August 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckAfter seeing his career in the doldrums, Ben Affleck has certainly made a spectacular comeback, as he’s now much in demand as both an actor and a director. Now he’s set to take both roles in a new take on Agatha Christie’s Witness For The Prosecution, according to Variety.

Christie’s short story was previously made into a movie in 1957 by director Biilly Wilder, starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, Elsa Lanchester and Charles Laughton. It was set ‘in the Old Bailey in London, Laughton plays a lawyer who represents a man (Power) accused of murdering a rich widow who had become enamored with him and made him the main beneficiary of her will.’

There’s no news on whether the new version will change this setup, such as movie it to the modern day or relocating it to the US. It’s not clear either what role Affleck will play.

Jared Leto Set To Join Ryan Gosling & Harrison Ford In Blade Runner Sequel

August 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jared-LetoThe follow-up to Blade Runner just got a little more interesting. Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Ana de Armas are already onboard to star, and they’ve now been joined by Jared Leto, according the THR.

There’s still not much info about the exact plot of the movie, but we do know it’s set several decades after the original, and that Harrison Ford will once more be reprising his role as Rick Deckard. It’s been rumoured that Gosling will also be playing a detective, while Robin Wright will be an android. We’d also be willing to bet Leto is going android too.

Denis Villeneuve, director of Prisoners and the upcoming Arrival, will helm the movie, with Alcon Entertainment producing. It’s currently set for release October 2017.
