Matt Damon Returning To The Heist Franchise For Ocean’s Eight

November 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damon-oceans-thirteenThey’ve pulled together a great cast for Ocean’s Eight, which will reboot the Ocean’s Eleven franchise with a largely female cast. However, ET reveals that at least one member of the earlier cast will be showing up, with Matt Damon confirming he’s set to shoot a cameo.

He says,  “I’m doing a little bit in the movie. I haven’t read it yet, but the cast is phenomenal and I’m excited to see what those women do with it. It’s going to be fun.”

Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson and Awkwafina will be the titular eight, who stage a complex heist centred on the annual New York Met Gala Ball. It’s also been reported that Bullock’s character is a relative of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean, but it’s not known if Clooney himself will be involved at all.

Hunger Games helmer Gary Ross should start shooting the movie either later this year or early next year in New York. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the Ocean’s 11 trilogy, will produce.

Beauty & The Beast Trailer – A brand new take on a tale as old as time

November 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

beauty-and-the-beast-pic1-slideThere are already a lot of people excited about Disney’s live-action Beauty & The Beast, and this first trailer is likely to up the anticipation. There may be a couple of special effect wobbles they can hopefully sort out in the next few months, but overall it looks as magical as you could hope for. And we have to say, the Beast is looking hot (partly due to having the gorgeous Dan Stevens under the CGI fur).

The promo is filled with live-action recreations of classic moments from the 1990s animated movie, back by a rousing school and a comforting reassurance that while things will have changed, much of what people love about the original will remain.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

‘Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.’

The film will in in cinemas next March. [Read more…]

Ghost In The Shell Trailer – Scarlett Johannson takes on the classic Japanese anime

November 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghost-in-the-shell-poster-slideThere’s been a bit of controversy of the live-action film version of Ghost In The Shell, and whether it’s right for Scarlett Johannson to play a character who was always Japanese in the original anime the movie is based on. Whatever people’s thoughts on whitewashing, the movie is on its way, and the first full trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the internationally-acclaimed Japanese Anime property, GHOST IN THE SHELL follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9 devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists. Directed by Rupert Sanders. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, and Kaori Momoi.’

Johansson, Kitano, and director Rupert Sanders joined fans and influencers from across the globe in Tokyo on Sunday for the film’s global launch party, with the trailer being released around the world following that. The movie will be in cinemas next Spring. [Read more…]

Esteros Trailer – A gay sexual awakening for two childhood friends in Argentina

November 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

esteros-slideSynopsis: ‘Matías and Jerónimo—played by Ignacio Rogers and Estaban Masturini, who have a potent on-screen chemistry—have known each other since childhood. During the holidays in the Argentine wetlands of Esteros and before they begin high school, their friendship takes a new turn when they both experience their sexual awakening. However, Matías’ father forces them apart when he takes a job far away. Ultimately, distance and family contempt for homosexuality leads Matías to deny his friend, and ultimately, himself.

‘More than ten years later, Matías returns to his old town for Carnival with his girlfriend, where he unexpectedly runs into Jerónimo. Feelings between the two men slowly reappear, leading to a long-repressed awakening. But at what cost? Esteros is an expansion and reworking of the director’s 2015 short film Matías y Jerónimo in which two young boys are witness to a hate crime. Curotto’s debut feature is a charming and heartfelt take on second chances at love.’

Esteros is available on DVD on VoD in the US courtesy of Breaking Glass Pictures, from November 29th. [Read more…]

JK Rowling Hints Dumbledore May Be Openly Gay In Fantastic Beasts Sequels

November 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-beasts-final-poster-slideIn the last few weeks we’ve learned that the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them has expanded from a planned three films to five of them, that a young Dumbledore will feature in the sequels, and that Johnny Depp has come on board as the villainous Grindelwald.

The last fact ignited speculation that he would be Dumbledore’s lover in the movies. That actually seemed unlikely, as from Harry Potter we know the pair were estranged by the 1930s setting of Fantastic Beasts, and there is no definitive evidence they were more than friends as teens. Indeed, many wondered whether rather like the Potter books, Dumbledore would be essentially asexual, even if Rowling has said he’s gay elswhere.

However, now she’s hinted that the Fantastic Beasts movies may show the future Hogwarts headmaster as an openly and actively gay man. However, she’s still keeping people guessing, saying at a press conference about the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, “I can’t tell you everything I would like to say because this is obviously a five-part story so there’s lots to unpack in that relationship. You will see Dumbledore as a younger man and quite a troubled man – he wasn’t always the sage. We’ll see him at that formative period of his life.”

She then added, “As far as his sexuality is concerned… Watch this space.”

That would suggest the films will actively address Dumbledore’s sexuality – something that’s still incredibly rare in big budget Hollywood movies, especially family films.- although at the moment it’s still a wait and see situation, where we could be getting a fully fledged gay character, or one where his sexuality is just vaguely acknowledged. At least it appears the movies won’t ignore it completely and reading between the lines we could be seeing Albus being rather conflicted about his sexuality.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Trailer – Luc Besson goes sci-fi again with Dane DeHaan & Cara Delevingne

November 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

valerian-slideLuc Besson took us into a rather unique sci-fi world with The Fifth Element, which got a very mixed reaction on its cinema release, but has since grown more than a cult reputation. Now the director is going back to hard sci-fi with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which has just released its first proper trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Rooted in the classic graphic novel series, Valerian and Laureline- visionary writer/director Luc Besson advances this iconic source material into a contemporary, unique and epic science fiction saga.

‘Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.

‘Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.’

It’s due in cinemas next summer. [Read more…]

New Live By Night Trailer – Ben Affleck directs a Prohibition era crime thriller

November 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

live-by-night-slideBen Affleck has been working on bringing Live By Night to the big screen for around four years. Now it’s preparing for its release, with Affleck hoping it’ll be as well received as his last directorial effort, Argo.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Oscar winner Ben Affleck (“Argo”) directed and stars in the dramatic crime thriller “Live by Night.” Affleck also wrote the screenplay, based on the award-winning best-seller by Dennis Lehane; it marks the second collaboration for the fellow Boston natives, following the acclaimed drama “Gone Baby Gone.”

‘“Live by Night” is set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.

Starring with Affleck are Elle Fanning (“Maleficent”), Brendan Gleeson (“In the Heart of the Sea,” the “Harry Potter” films), Chris Messina (“Argo,” “The Mindy Project”), Sienna Miller (“American Sniper,” “Foxcatcher”), Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avatar”), and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation,” “The Town”).’

The film will be in UK cinemas in January. [Read more…]

New Poster For Live-Action Beauty & The Beast Pays Homage To A Classic Dance

November 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

beauty-and-the-beast-poster2There’s a lot of interest in the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast. With images and a new poster having arrived in the last few days, it can only be a short time until we get a proper trailer. As with much of the other marketing so far, it harks back to the classic animated movie, while also suggesting this will be just a little bit different.

New Collateral Beauty Trailer – Will Smith is forced to confront his grief by a great cast

November 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

collateral-beautyThis one certainly looks like it might be a bit of Oscar-bait from Will Smith and director David Frankel (Dear Diary, The Devil Wears Prada), working with a very impressive cast. It may also be hoping to jerk some tears with its magical realism over the Christmas period.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When a successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith) experiences a deep personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, his colleagues devise a drastic plan to force him to confront his grief in a surprising and profoundly human way.

‘“Collateral Beauty” features an all-star cast, including Will Smith (“Suicide Squad,” “Concussion”), Edward Norton (“Birdman or [The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance]”), Keira Knightley (“The Imitation Game”), Michael Peña (“The Martian”), Naomie Harris (“Spectre”), Jacob Latimore (“The Maze Runner”), with Oscar winners Kate Winslet (“The Reader,” “Steve Jobs”) and Helen Mirren (“The Queen,” “Trumbo”).’

The movie is set to his UK cinemas on December 26th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
