The Muppets Pitch Video – Take a look at what landed them a new TV show

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

muppets-tv-showAfter finding new life in a two movies, The Muppets are heading back to the place they were born, with a new TV show that will be a sitcom that mixes Kermit & co’s. home life with their work life, in a documentary style that’s a little like Modern Family or The Office.

The show got picked up by ABC in the US after they saw a 10-minute presentation that showed off this slightly more adult-oriented take on the characters. The pitch got plenty of buzz, but it wasn’t originally meant to be seen by the public.

That’s now changed as it’s been released on the internet and you can watch it below. And nicely even though it’s just a pitch, it features the sort of celebrity cameos you’d expect from The Muppets, with the likes of Elizabeth Banks and Topher Grace showing up. [Read more…]

Spectre Trailer – Daniel Craig’s 007 is back in the first proper look at the Bond adventure

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

spectre-pic2Nobody was expecting Skyfall to join the billion dollar box office club, but when it did it ensured the 007 got a massive shot in the arm and there was huge amounts of anticipation for the next instalment. The film, Spectre, reunites Daniel Craig with director Sam Mendes.

The first full trailer is now here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.

‘Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE.

‘As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot. As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.’

Spectre is set for release in the UK on October 26, 2015, and in the US on November 6, 2015.’ [Read more…]

Paternity Leave Trailer – How would a gay male couple deal with one of them getting pregnant?

July 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paternity-leave-slide2We enjoyed Paternity Leave when we reviewed it a couple of weeks ago, but at that time there wasn’t a trailer we could show you for Matt Riddlehoover’s latest movie.

That’s changed though as the first proper promo has arrived, which you can watch below.

The film, ‘is a romantic comedy about Greg (Jacob York), Ken (Charlie David), and a moment of passion on the eve of their four year anniversary that changes the course of their lives forever.

‘Greg begins feeling nauseated, fatigued, moody and – most unfortunately – fat. At his wit’s end and Ken’s insistence, he sees a doctor who’s stumped and refers the couple to a specialist. To everyone’s amazement, Greg is pregnant. Shock, stress, and fear settle in, and Greg’s relationship gets put to the ultimate test.

‘Co-starring Chris Salvatore (Eating Out: All You Can Eat, Drama Camp, The Open Weekend), Paternity Leave poses a modern answer to the age old question: “Are we ready to be parents?”‘

Paternity Leave is now playing festivals, and is available for pre-order at PaternityLeaveFilm.com. [Read more…]

The Good Dinosaur Trailer – Pixar brings dinos and humans together

July 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

good-dinosaur-pic1I’m sure evolutionary scientists would be the first to say that if as asteroid hadn’t wiped out the dinosaurs it’s very unlikely we’d be living alongside them now (indeed, we’d almost certainly not exist as a species), but it’s still a fun idea and one Pixar running with for The Good Dinosaur.

Now the first full trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.’

It’s out in UK cinemas on November 27th. [Read more…]

Star Wars: Episode VIII Wants Benicio Del Toro To Get Villainous

July 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benicio-Del-ToroStar Wars: The Force Awakens may not be in cinemas until December, but with Star Wars: Episode VIII currently set for release May 2017, they don’t have time to see whether JJ Abrams’ movie is a success before moving forward with its sequel.

Indeed they’re already casting for new roles, with TheWrap reporting that Disney/Lucasfilm has offered a villainous role to Benicio Del Toro. Although nothing has been officially announced, it seems he’s likely to sign on for the movie.

As you’d expect, there’s little info on the plot (we still know fairly little about The Force Awakens), although as he’s being cast now and Episode VIII isn’t due to shoot until either the end of this year of early 2016, there’s speculation that he may be introduced in Force Awakens before becoming more important in the follow-up.

Of course between these two films we also have the standalone movie Rogue One, which is due out December 2016 and follows the mission to steal the Death Star plans, which led to the events of the first Star Wars movie. That film is currently shooting.

Before We Go Trailer – Romance sparks between Chris Evans & Alice Eve

July 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Before-We-Go-slideIt is an odd thing but when actors are playing superheroes they often don’t have vast amounts of success outside that franchise. It’s true of Chris Evans, who’s massively popular as Captain America, but his other films haven’t made much of an impact on the box office (his recent Playing It Cool didn’t even get a UK cinema release).

It’s a shame as he certainly has charm on screen.

Before We Go may not be likely to make mountains of cash, but it does look like it may be a rather charming romance with Evans starring alongside Alice Eve. And it will also act as a showcase for Evans directorial skills, as it’s his debut behind the camera.

Chris plays a man who helps out after Eve’s purse is stolen, which ‘sparks a life-changing, nighttime sojourn through New York City.’

Before We Go will be on VOD in the US from July 21st and in cinemas September 4th. No UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

The Gift Trailer – Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton have secrets

July 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-gift-posterWhile Jason Bateman is best known for comedy, he’s getting into horror-thriller territory for The Gift.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Can you really go through life having never wronged anyone? Even if you are unaware of how, or when, and even who you may have wronged….chances are there is someone out there who won’t ever forget it…or you.

‘Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall) are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance from Simon’s high school sends their world into a harrowing tailspin. Simon doesn’t recognize Gordo (Joel Edgerton) at first, but after a seemingly coincidental series of encounters proves troubling, a horrifying secret from their past is uncovered after nearly 20 years. As Robyn learns the unsettling truth about what happened between Simon and Gordo, she starts to question: how well do we really know the people closest to us, and are past bygones ever really bygones?

‘From the producer of Whiplash and The Purge, Jason Blum, comes a chilling psychological thriller that marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed actor and writer Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty, Warrior).’

It’s out in the UK August 7th. [Read more…]

Gay Marriage Comedy Dodie & Cheryl Get Hitched Seeks Funding

July 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dodie-and-cheryl-get-hitchedThe lesbian wedding movie Jenny’s Wedding, starring Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel, will be in US cinemas on July 31st, but it’s not the only movie out there about two women getting married . There’s also Dodie & Cheryl Get Hitched, which has launvhed a Kickstarter to raise an ambitious $200,000 to get the film made.

In the film, ‘Dodie Pickerling, a bowling alley manager, and Cheryl Shook, a second grade teacher, are two small town Midwest middle-aged lesbians who’ve been together forever and lead a quiet modest life, accepted by the community because they keep their relationship to themselves. Dodie is fine with this arrangement, but after they attend a neighbor’s shotgun wedding, Cheryl finds herself longing for more. She wants to count too. When she’s denied hospital access to Dodie after a bad allergic run-in with a nut, Cheryl decides to dig out an old rainbow flag and boldly swaps it out with their Cincinnati Reds porch banner.

‘As soon as the town realizes what it represents, the shit hits the fan. “DIKES” is spray painted across the girls’ garage (yeah – the offenders don’t spell so good…) Carried away with emotion, Dodie proposes to her lady friend in front of the small crowd gathered on their lawn. Cheryl is euphoric, but as the wedding plans get underway, Dodie’s enthusiasm wanes. Resentment quickly builds between the two, coupled with the community’s overtly anti gay sentiments. An ugly surge of hypocrisy questions if these supposed god-fearing folks are as righteous as they’d like to believe. Told in the vein of both John Waters and John Hughes, “Dodie & Cheryl Get Hitched” questions if the girls’ union will survive, and why they’d even want to be part of such a fucked up institution in the first place??’

Director Coley Sohn (Sassy Pants) says the film, “is my ode to all the ugly heads that are rearing [against gay people and mariage equality] and also the ones that are buried in the sand. This ain’t no schmaltzy feel good Katherine Heigl rom com. Not that there’s anything wrong with those…  It’s a funny, sometimes dark and disturbing look at an institution that gay or straight, is pretty fucked up to begin with.”

If the movie sounds like something you’d like to see, watch the crowdfunding video below (which features Drew Droege) and then head over to Kickstarter to help out. [Read more…]
