Will & Grace Reboot Will Finally Arrive In The UK In Early January

December 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Since September, British fans of Will & Grace having been looking across the pond enviously, as American viewers have been treated to new episodes of the show. However, there’s been no news on when – or even if – it would arrive in the UK.

That’s changed though, as Will himself, Eric McCormack, has confirmed that Channel 5 has picked up the rights and will begin airing the show in January. Deadline adds that the first episode of the rebooted show will screen in Britain on January 5th, in between episodes of Celebrity Big Brother.

The reboot has proven a success in the US, as before the first new episode aired, TV network NBC had already expanded the original order from 12 to 16 new episodes, as well as commissioning a second season with 10 more new instalments. Once it did make it to screen, it’s proved a ratings winner.

Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally have all returned to the show following a 10-year break. It once more follows the adventures of gay lawyer Will and his straight best friend Grace, as well as their flamboyant friend Jack, and the snobby, rich Karen. [Read more…]

Bryan Singer Fired From Queen Biopic Bohemian Rhapsody Following On-Set Disruption

December 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There was surprising news last week when it was revealed that filming on the upcoming biopic of the band Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, had been put on hold after director Bryan Singer failed to return from a Thanksgiving hiatus. 20th Century Fox said it was due to Singer’s ‘unexpected availability’, while the director said it was due to unspecified health issues.

Now things have taken a further turn, as Fox has fired Singer from the movie, and also closed the offices of his production company on their LA studio lot. He has had a long relationship with the studio, having directed four X-Men movies for them.

The firing comes amidst reports that the post-Thanksgiving absence wasn’t the first time he’d been absent from the Bohemian Rhapsody set, with director of photography Newton Thomas Sigel stepping in to cover for him. Singer’s behaviour and constant lateness also allegedly caused major friction with the cast, resulting in a major bust-up (and later reconciliation) with lead actor Rami Malek, who’s playing Freddie Mercury. It’s been suggested Malek and his representatives went as far as to officially approach the studio about what they felt was Singer’s lack of professionalism. That resulted in representatives from the Directors Guild of America and the studio heading to the set to monitor the situation. There are also reports that the fellow actor Tom Hollander walked from the film due to Singer, but was then convinced to return to the set.

It’s said this isn’t the first time Fox has had issues with Singer and his time-keeping, with suggestions that the studio even had a specific meeting with the director before he headed to London to film Bohemian Rhapsody to tell him they wouldn’t tolerate any erratic behaviour.

The director has hit back saying that his firing was unreasonable as he’d failed to return from the Thansgiving break as he needed to help look after a seriously ill parent, and that the studio had refused. He’s released a statement, via THR, saying, “Bohemian Rhapsody is a passion project of mine. With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services. This was not my decision and it was beyond my control.

“Rumors that my unexpected departure from the film was sparked by a dispute I had with Rami Malek are not true. While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving.”

Fox has said they hope to hire a new director shortly and complete filming on the movie as soon as possible. The plan is still to release the film around Christmas 2018.

December 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Thoroughbreds has received some pretty good reviews as it’s played film festivals from Sundance to London, currently enjoying an 83% rating on RottenTomatoes. However, it doesn’t arrive in cinemas until March, so it’s worth getting a taste of the movie with a new trailer.

Wentworth Miller & Russell Tovey Share A Superhero Kiss On Arrow-verse Crossover Event

November 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the weekend we posted the first images of Russell Tovey as the Arrow-verse’ first live-action, openly gay hero, The Ray. While many people were excited just to have Tovey show up for a major crossover event between The Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, there was an extra treat in store.

One scene in ‘Crisis On Earth X’, saw Tovey and Wentworth Miller sharing a smooch! Miller has been part of the Arrow-verse for several years as villain turned reluctant hero Captain Cold (aka Leonard Snart). Tovey’s Ray though comes from an alternate universe in which the Nazis won the Second World War, and it turns out that in that world, a version of Snart, known there as Citizen Cold, is his lover.

The result is something it’s difficult to imagine ever happening even 10 years ago – two openly gay actors, playing superheroes on a major TV show, sharing a loving kiss! Take a look at a gif of the moment below.

The crossover event will air on Sky 1 in the UK next week. [Read more…]

Armie Hammer Reveals His Religious Mother Won’t Watch Him Playing Gay In Call Me By Your Name

November 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although things could change between now and March 4th, at the moment Armie Hammer is the frontrunner for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. However, one person who hasn’t – and probably won’t – watch him in his acclaimed role in Call Me By Your Name is his own mother.

In the movie, Hammer plays a post-graduate student who goes to Italy for the summer, and starts to fall in love with the teenage son of his professor.

Talking to Andy Cohen, he’s revealed of his mother, “I don’t think she’ll see the movie”.

His co-star Timotheee Chalamet then joked, “Because you’re possessed.”

Hammer continued, “Yeah, she does not want to see the movie. It goes against a lot of her very strong religious beliefs. She’s very conservative. It just affirmed to me that I’m going off on my own and doing what I truly believe I should be doing as an artist. It’s her right, it’s her choice. But I also have the right to support the movies I want to do. We’ve tried to talk it out, but we’re just at opposite ends of the spectrum on that one.”

It’s been quite a busy few days for Hammer and Call Me By Your Name. The movie scored the most nominations at the Indie Spirit Awards a few days ago, and yesterday pick up Best Picture from the Gotham Awards. Both those have been seen as good signs for a strong Oscar showing.

Hammer meanwhile deleted his Twitter account after getting angry about a negative Buzzfeed article about him. However, while he may have been frustrated about that article, he could at least take solace in the fact that Call Me By Your Name scored the best limited opening of 2017 when it arrived in US cinemas last weekend. Love, Simon Trailer – Mainstream Hollywood brings us a gay coming of age hero in the form of Nick Robinson

November 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In mainstream movies, the only films that get gay lead characters tend to be prestige dramas that are attempting to get Oscars. However, Love Simon is something a bit special, as it’s a teen coming of age movie that’s getting a release by 20th Century Fox (and was made under their Fox 2000 banner), and happens to be about a young gay man.

The first proper trailer for the movie has arrived, which comes from director Greg Berlanti (the man behind TV’s Arrow-verse).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing. Directed by Greg Berlanti (Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters), written by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger (This is Us), and based on Becky Albertalli’s acclaimed novel, LOVE, SIMON is a funny and heartfelt coming-of-age story about the thrilling ride of finding yourself and falling in love.’

The film is due in cinemas next Spring. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Who is Mary Magdalene? She’s probably best known for being a prostitute – although the problem with that is that it doesn’t actually say she was in The Bible. He lady of the night reputation came along much later. More recently Dan Brown decided she was Jesus’ wife. But who was she really?
