Jeffrey Tambor Quits Transparent Following Sexual Harrassment Allegations

November 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the past few years Jeffrey Tambor has gotten a lot of praise for playing transgender character Maura Pfefferman in Amazon Prime’s hit show, Transparent, which has included him winning a Golden Globe and two Emmys. However, in the past few days he has been hit by allegations of sexual harassment/misconduct by co-star, Trace Lysette, and his former assistant, Van Barnes.

He immediately issued denials, saying ‘I know I haven’t always been the easiest person to work with. I can be volatile and ill-tempered, and too often I express my opinions harshly and without tact. But I have never been a predator – ever.’

However, he has now decided to leave the series entirely. Tambor released a statement, via Deadline, reading, ‘Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life. What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago.

‘I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.’

There have been suggestions that since the accusations were made the makers of Transparent had already started discussing removing Tambor and his character from the show ahead of Season 5, and so it’s a case of the actor jumping before he could be pushed.

There are also suggestions that the ‘politicised atmosphere’ Tambor mentioned isn’t just that he’s alleged to have sexually harassed people, but growing discomfort amongst some of the crew about having such a prominent trans character played by a cis actor. Indeed one of the show’s trans writers, Our Lady J, suggested there was tension around this issue when she backed Tambor’s accuser while saying, ‘we cannot let trans content be taken down by a single cis man.’

There have already been calls to either bring in a trans actor to play Maura, or to ensure any new major trans character added to Season 5 isn’t played by a cis actor. As cis people playing trans character has become a much higher profile issues since Transparent started, and Tambor has been somewhat dismissive of people’s concerns about it, the current situation allows a reset of the show that will satisfy many.

A Wrinkle In Time Trailer – Oprah, Reese Witherspoon & Chris Pine star in Ana DuVernay’s family adventure

November 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With its first teaser trailer, A Wrinkle In Time suggested it might be comething really special. That feeling is only going to grow with this new, full trailer for the movie, which hints that this could be a ‘kid’s film’ that’s intense, beautiful and very entertaining.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.’

New Coco UK Trailer – The Land of the Dead beckons in Pixar’s new movie!

November 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just ahead of its US release on Wednesday, Disney-Pixar’s Coco has become the highest-grossing film of all time in Mexico after only 19 days at the box office. The filmmakers will certainly be pleased, as the whole thing is a bit of a love letter to Mexican culture.

“The story of Coco is inspired by Mexico’s people, cultures and traditions,” says director Lee Unkrich. “The people of Mexico made us think about our own families, our own histories and how that makes us who we are today. We are grateful for the opportunities afforded to us, and we can honestly say we are different people as a result of our experiences.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

‘Directed by Lee Unkrich (“Toy Story 3”), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist “Monsters University”) and produced by Darla K. Anderson (“Toy Story 3”).’

The movie will be out in the UK on January 18th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Incredibles 2 Teaser – Pixar’s superhero family are back & baby Jack is testing his powers

November 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s difficult to believe that it was way back in 2004 when Pixar’s The Incredibles was released. It’s taken them a while, but 2018 will bring us a sequel, where we’ll get to return to the world of the superhero family in Incredibles 2.

The first teaser for the movie has now been released, which suggests baby Jack having powers but not being sure how to control them will play a major part of the plot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in Incredibles 2 – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transistion for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.’

The movie will be out next summer. [Read more…]

Hotel Transylvania 3 – Adam Sandler’s vampire family are going on vacation

November 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Quite often when filmmakers don’t know what to do with a sequel, they send the characters of vacation. Unfortunately that’s accompanied by a lack of ideas in the finished movie and a sense of desperation. Hopefully though, that won’t be the case with Hotel Transylvania 3.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans. But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.’

Hotel Transylvania 3 is due out next summer. Take a look at the first trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

A Quiet Place Trailer – Emily Blunt gets into thriller mode for director John Krasinksi

November 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

John Krasinski seems keen to show there’s more to him than just Jim from The Office, and that’s certainly true for his second feature as a director. He’s taken the reins of a horror/thriller for A Quiet Place, and brought Emily Blunt along for the ride.

The new trailer certainly retains an air of mystery, introducing us to a seemingly post-apocalyptic world where Krasinski, Blunt and their two kids have to live in complete silence, because ‘If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you’. But what is hunting them, and what made those enormous rips going up the wall? As you might expect, staying completely silent at all times isn’t really feasible, so the family are in a lot of trouble.

It’s a trailer that suggests this could be a really good movie, and certainly builds the intrigue. Take a look below. The movie is due in cinemas next spring. [Read more…]

James Franco Is Set To Become A Multiple Man In An X-Men Spin-Off

November 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For several years Fox has been planning to expand its X-Men universe, and while it’s sometimes proven more difficult that they’d hoped – we still haven’t had Gambit with Channing Tatum – but they’ve had great success with Deadpool and a change of direction for Wolverine in Logan. They’re also hoping a more horror tone with New Mutants next year will strike a chord with audiences. The likes of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are also reuniting for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, due out November 2018.

Now they’re adding another, as Deadline reports that a Multiple Man movie in in development, with James Franco attached to the central role. He will also produce, alongside longtime X-Men producer/writer Simon Kinberg. They’ve also hired a writer, with Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg brought in to pen the script.

The character has been seen before in the X-Men movies, when Eric Dance played him in 2006’s The Last Stand. Now though this comparatively lesser known character will get a film all to himself. The character is ‘Jamie Madrox, who, in the comics, conveyed his cloning powers at birth, when a second, identical version of him appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe. His father, a worker at the Los Alamos Nuclear Research Center, moved his family to a remote farm where his son — fitted with a special suit to control his powers designed by X-Men patriarch Professor Xavier — lived quietly until the suit malfunctioned and he began to go crazy. His cloning abilities drove Madrox to have various collisions and collaborations with both the X-Men and Fantastic Four.’

It’s not know when we the movie might get a release.

Rampage Trailer – Dwayne Johnson gets his very own giant gorilla

November 17, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I don’t know whether Dwayne Johnson really wannted a role in Kong: Skull Island and didn’t get one – and so initiated his own everyle large gorilla movie. It seems a definite possibility, even if the gorillas here seem to have been dyeing their hair white, like the apes in Michael Crichton’s Congo!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.’

Rampage – which oddly enough is based on a 1986 computer game (yes, really) is due out in cinemas next April. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
