Want To Help Get More Episodes Of The Great Gay-Themed Web Series The Three Bits Made?

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Earlier this year we posted several episodes of the great gay-themed web series, The Three Bits, which focusses on a trio of the Bits family – the gay Henry, lesbian Roman and mommy blogger Madison – who get three episodes apiece in the debut outing. Now the Brooklyn-based creators of the show, Max Freeman and Margaret Singer, have taken to Kickstarter to look for funding for the next set of episodes.

They’ve promised that future episode ‘include a visit from the Westboro Baptist Church, spilled blood, bathroom cruising gone wrong, and cameos from some of our favorite porn stars!’ The hope is to raise $50,000 to fund another nine episodes, and if they get more than that, there’s the possibility of even more instalments.

It’s an entertaining New York set show, which is a well-written and well played. You can watch Henry’s episodes, where he tries to organise an orgy here – Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3. If you like it, you can head over the Kickstarter to help make the next episodes. [Read more…]

Longer Trailer For HBO’s Gay Series Looking Debuts, Plus A View Behind The Scenes With Jonathan Groff & Co.

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s growing anticipation for the debut of HBO’s gay-themed series Looking, which debuts in the US on January 19th, 2014, and should spread to other parts of the globe soon afterwards. There have already been a couple of short trailers, but now a longer one has debuted, giving us our best look at the show yet. Along with that comes a behind-the-scene ‘Invitation To The Set’.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Looking’ offers up the unfiltered experiences of three close friends living — and loving — in modern-day San Francisco. Friendship may bind them, but each is at a markedly different point in his journey: Patrick (Jonathan Groff) is the 29-year-old video game designer getting back into the dating world in the wake of his ex’s engagement; aspiring artist Agustín (Frankie J. Alvarez), 31, is questioning the idea of monogamy amid a move to domesticate with his boyfriend; and the group’s oldest member — longtime waiter Dom (Murray Bartlett), 39 — is facing middle age with romantic and professional dreams still unfulfilled.

‘The trio’s stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy in an age of unparalleled choices — and rights — for gay men. Also important to the ‘Looking’ mix is the progressive, unpredictable, sexually open culture of the Bay Area, with real San Francisco locations serving as a backdrop for the group’s lives. Rounding out the ‘Looking’ world are a bevy of dynamic gay men including Kevin (Russell Tovey), Lynn (Scott Bakula), and Richie (Raul Castillo), as well as a wide-range of supporting characters like Dom’s roommate Doris (Lauren Weedman), Agustín’s boyfriend Frank (O.T. Fagbenle), and Patrick’s co-worker Owen (Andrew Law).’

Vampire Academy Trailer – From the makers of Mean Girls & Heathers

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the end of Twilight, are young adults still interested in bloodsuckers? Vampire Academy is hoping so. Now a new trailer has arrived, which suggests that despite the dreadful name it might not be too bad – although it appears fans of the books are in two minds about whether it looks like it’ll be able to capture the novels.

You’d have hope we’d get something decent from Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters and Heathers writer Daniel Waters, who’ve adapted Richelle Mead‘s popular series of books for the big screen.

The film tells the tale of Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old girl who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend Lissa. The two girls attend a special school for Vampires who struggle to retain some humanity while other Vampires become more feral. Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) and the Australian Lucy Fry playing Rose and Lissa, with Russian star Danila Kozlovski as Dimitri.

The film’s due out early next year. [Read more…]

Four New That Awkward Moment Posters Featuring Zac Efron, Miles Teller & More

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

that-awkward-moment-poster2
The red band trailer for That Awkward Moment featured Zac Efron’s butt and him wearing a dildo, so it’s perhaps a bit of a surprise that he’s holding a cat in his new poster for the movie, which makes everything seem a lot more innocent.

He’s not the only one who’s got one, as there are character posters for Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Imogen Poots have got one too.

Previously titled Are We Officially Dating?, That Awkward Moment is about a groups of Manhattan friends (Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan) who initially make a pact to remain single. The plot thickens when each friend falls in love shortly after the vow is made (wouldn’t you just know it!), and have to decide “So…where is this going?”.

The movie is due out at the end of January.

New Wolf Of Wall Street Posters & Clip Land, Starring Leonardo DiCaprio

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wolf-of-Wall-Street-poster1
There was talk a few weeks ago that The Wolf Of Wall Street might miss its Christmas Day release and therefore miss out an awards run. But now Martin Scorsese has decided it’ll be ready in time, so it’s sticking to the original plan, which will see it arrive in the US on December 25th and the UK on January 17th.

A couple of new posters have shown up, along with a clip from the movie, which you can see below.

The based-on-a-true-story movie is about Jordan Belfort’s meteoric rise, where he made making millions selling phony stocks before he was arrested and sentenced to 22 months in prison for securities fraud. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Jon Favreau also star.

Martin Scorsese directs from a screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter.

Johnny Depp & Mia Wasikowska Confirmed For Alice In Wonderland 2

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alice-in-wonderland-poster1After the billion dollar grossing success of Alice In Wonderland, it’s taken Disney a while to get a sequel going. Now they’ve kicked into high gear with the news that Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska have been confirmed to star in the movie, and a May 27, 2016 release date has been set for Alice in Wonderland 2.

Disney has also set its live-action version of The Jungle Book for October 9, 2015.

While Alice in Wonderland was released in early March 2010, the follow-up is being given a prime Memorial Day weekend release. At the moment it doesn’t have any direct competition, although that’s likely to change as the other studios firm up with 2016 release schedule.

Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are slated to reprise their roles as The Mad Hatter and Alice, although no other cast members have been confirmed. James Bobin is directing from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, although it isn’t clear when production will begin.

Eloise Mumford Joins Fifty Shades of Grey, As Anastasia’s Roommate

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eloise-mumfordWith the shooting and release of Fifty Shades Of Grey pushed back, it’s given them a little more time to fill out the cast. The latest to join is Eloise Mumford, who has landed one of the last major roles, playing Kate Kavanaugh, the roommate of Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia Steele, according to Variety.

Jamie Dornan is set to play Christian Grey, a 27-year-old billionaire who strikes up a torrid, S&M flavoured affair with college student Anastasia. Jennifer Ehle is set to be Anastasia’s mother Carla, with Luke Grimes as Christian’s brother Elliot and Victor Rasuk as Anastasia’s friend Jose, who wants more out of their relationship before Christian comes along.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, Patrick Marber and Mark Bomback. Filming is scheduled to begin next month in Vancouver.

Rob Cohen To Helm Road House Remake

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

road-house-dvd-coverThe remake train continues to roll on with the news that MGM is once again reaching into their vaults to remake the cult classic, Road House. THR reports that The Fast and the Furious and xXx director Rob Cohen is set to helm the film.

The original 1989 movie follows Dalton (Patrick Swayze), a tough bouncer with a mysterious past who is called upon to tame and protect a dirty Missouri bar. However, he becomes the target of rich town bully Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara), which leads to one of the more epic 80s showdowns in action movie history.

It’s a bit of an over the top movie, but that’s what has made it a cult classic. There’s no news on whether the remake plans to tone things down or go even more extreme. Probably the latter given Cohen’s track records.

The Hunger Games Catches Fire At The US Box Office, Setting A November Record

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-poster2It was little surprise that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire topped the US box office this weekend, but it did so with style, taking an enormous $161.1 million. That’s the biggest opening ever for November, and assuming the numbers hold steady when final figures are released, it’ll be the highest debut for a 2D only film, ahead of The Dark Knight Rises’ $160.9 million.

It’ll also be the third highest start, behind The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It should continue to do well, with the Thanksgiving holiday coming up this week.

The only other new opener in the top 10 was Delivery Man, which reached fourth spot with a lacklustre $8.2 million on its opening. While it may find some more viewers over Thanksgiving it’s still likely to end up being seen as a failure.

On its fourth weekend in cinemas Dallas Buyers Club made its first appearance in the top 10, thanks to the fact it added nearly 500 extra screens. It took an extra $2.7 million, for a total of $6.4 million so far. It should continue to do well over the coming weeks, especially with Matthew McConaughey tipped for a strong awards run.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of November 22nd-24th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire $161.1 $161.1
2 Thor: The Dark World $14.1 $167.8
3 The Best Man Holiday $12.5 $50.3
4 Delivery Man $8.2 $8.2
5 Free Birds $5.3 $48.5
6 Last Vegas $4.4 $53.9
7 Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa $3.4 $95.4
8 Gravity $3.3 $245.5
9 12 Years A Slave $2.8 $29.3
10 Dallas Buyers Club $2.7 $6.4

The Gay-Themed Naz + Maalik, Which Explores Stereotypes About Muslims, Seeks Funding

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are all sorts of gay-themed films released but very few of them concentrate on queer Muslims. However the upcoming indie Naz + Maalik take that on, while exploring stereotypes and the pressures put on young Muslim men. The film has already been shot, but it’s now looking for funding on Kickstarter to get it completed and into film festivals.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A decade into the War on Terror, two first-generation Muslim teens – friends, classmates, business partners, lovers – spend their Friday hustling the streets of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. While deciding whether to tell their community about their homosexuality, Naz and Maalik’s ambiguous and secretive relationship unknowingly sets an FBI agent on their trail. As the agent grows convinced that the boys are engaged in “violent radicalism,” her pursuit becomes increasingly menacing and the stakes surrounding the boys’ hapless hustling and lies grow. What began as a struggle to protect their sexual identities evolves into a crisis much larger – a fight to stay alive.’

The film was inspired by interviews director Jay Dockendorf’s conducted after being appalled by FBI and police tactics following 9/11. He did indeed find that one couple’s secret relationship was enough to get the authorities investigating them.

The director commented to HuffPo, “The film considers Islamophobia through the lens of homophobia and homophobia through the lens of racism. I know they’re very separate issues, but for some people, real people on whom these characters are based, they’re completely linked and the balance is delicate. ”

If you’d like to help out, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]
