Nymphomaniac Trailer – Take a NSFW look at Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell & more in Lars Von Trier’s next

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nymphomaniac-poster2
For the first time in his career, Lars Von Trier has given up final cut for Nymphomaniac, largely because the version he’s happy with is 5 1/2 hours long, and even he realised that was never going to be commercially released. The last we heard there was talk of cutting it down to two 2-hour films, which is how it’ll apparently be coming (although there’s still a chance VOn Trier’s butt-numbing version will appear one day at festivals, apparently).

They’ve also dropped plans for hardcore and softcore versions, as there will now just be a the one with full-on sex, but distributors around the globe will be free to blur out whatever bits they reckon are two rude. We get a taste of that rudeness in the trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin also star. It should arrive in the UK next March.

Take a look at the new poster above and the rude trailer, but beware as it is indeed NSFW. [Read more…]

Celluloid Trailer – Take a look at the new gay-themed flick from the director of Dream On

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This year on BGPS we’ve reviewed gay-themed feature films from the US, Israel, Italy, Australia, Poland, France, Argetina and various others, but despite the fact the site is based in the UK, there are not that many British films that take LGBT subjects as one of their major themes that have come out.

However on January 27th a new one is coming, Celluloid. It’s from the director of one of 2013’s few gay-themed UK movie releases, Dream On, Lloyd Eyre-Morgan, and was inspired by his own life experiences. It stars Shameless actor Jody Latham and rather impressively, was made for just £3,000.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Vulnerable and unable to articulate their worries and struggling with coming to terms with sexuality, teenagers Josh & Nicola struggle with their Mum’ Dawn’s more recent bout of outbursts and her increasing instability as she begins to remember abuse from her past. Josh escapes into a world of gay social media and blogging, while Nicola resorts to darker methods of escape on the local estate. Are Dawn’s recollections true or have they been encouraged? Is the family strong enough to get through it?’

The film premièred at Cinema Diverse Palm Springs gay and lesbian Film festival earlier this year, and will be available on DVD in the UK from January 27th, 2014. You can see the trailer above and take a look at a few pics from the movie below. [Read more…]

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is one of the more intriguing movies coming this winter, and now we can take a fresh look with a two-minute clip. It’s definitely worth a look, as it shows exactly how Walter’s fantasies will work, which begin to take over his life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.’

Sabotage Trailer – Arnold Schwarzenegger takes on the cartels

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Arnold Schwarzenegger has had difficulty recapture his action a-list crown after his time in politics, but he’s far from giving up and his latest attempt is Sabotage, which has now released a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An elite DEA task force deals with the world’s deadliest drug cartels. Specializing in complex mobile operations, the team executes a tactical raid on a cartel safe house. What looks to be a typical raid turns out to be an elaborate theft operation, pre-planned by the DEA squad. After hiding millions in stolen cash, the team believes their secret is safe – until someone begins assassinating them one by one.’

As you’ve probably guessed, Arnie is on that task force and showing off his action muscles once more. It’ll be in cinemas next Spring. [Read more…]

Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor Takes On Tell No One

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gavin-o-connorTell No One has certainly been through the works in Hollywood. The adaptation of Harlan Coben’s novel has already had the likes of Ben Affleck and Andrew Dominik attached to direct, but they’ve all since moved on. Now a new helmer has moved in, with Variety reporting that Gavin O’Connor has stepped up to the plate.

Tell No One is about a paediatrician who is out one night frolicking by a lake with his wife when she suddenly vanishes and he is severely beaten when he tries to find her. When she turns up murdered, he is the prime suspect. That’s until she’s declared a victim of a caught serial killer. Years later, bodies turn up in the same spot and the nightmare is repeated, the paediatrician again under suspicion. Right around that time, he’s given evidence that his wife wasn’t dead at all.

Gavin O’Connor is best known for directing Warrior, and more recently was a last minute replacement for Lynn Ramsay on the upcoming Jane Got A Gun. There’s no news on when Tell No One might shoot.

A New Biopic Of JRR Tolkien Is In The Works

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jrr-tolkien-pic1Everybody knows JRR Tolkien wrote the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit, but not many people know much about him as a person. Now Fox Searchlight is planning to change that with a biopic, currently just titled Tolkien.

David Gleeson is set to write a script, which the LA Times says ‘will examine the author’s life, particularly his formative years at Pembroke College and as a soldier in World War I, and how it influenced him and his work, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly.’ He is said to have channelled many of the friends he lost during the war into his life and work.

Gleeson is apparently a Tolkien super-fan, so would seem a good choice for the project. Various other plans for Tolkien biopics have foundered, partly due to the fact the Tolkien estate is notoriously private. It’s not known whether they’re co-operating with this one, but it was apparently their issues that scuppered Mirkwood, a fantastical look at Tolkien’s work as a codebreaker in World War II (the author was a renowned linguist, so his skills came in very handy.

Sony Plans Multiple Amazing Spider-Man Spin-Offs

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-suitEver since the success of The Avengers, other studios have been eyeing Marvel’s film universe with jealous eyes. DC/Warner has stepped up plans to build its own interconnected universe, Fox is expanding X-Men and Fantastic Four, and now it appears Sony wants to build its own interconnected superhero/villain world with the Spider-man characters it has the rights to, according to Deadline.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 are already in the works, and now studio president Amy Pascal has teased that they are planning numerous spin-offs to go along with the sequels. During a presentation to investors she said, “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton suggested that there are currently scripts in development for these spin-offs saying, “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.”

While it hasn’t been confirmed which characters will get their own stand-alone movies, Sony’s licensing deal with Marvel allows it to make movies based on the peripheral characters in this universe, such as Venom and Black Cat. There are also plenty of villains who could become central to spin-offs, and it’s already believed The Amazing Spider-man movies will lead to the formation of the evil Sinister Six band of bad guys.

Glengarry Glen Ross Helmer James Foley To Direct Jacob’s Ladder Remake

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jacobs-ladder-posterA remake of the 1990s movie Jacob’s Ladder has been in the works for a while. Now it’s moving forward with TheWrap reporting that James Foley, is in talks to direct.

The original thriller, directed by Adrian Lyne, starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran who suffers from bizarre hallucinations while trying to uncover clues about his mysterious past. The new film is said to be more of a contemporary homage than a remake, introducing new characters and situations, while tackling the same existential themes as the original.

Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) is writing the script, based on a first draft by Jake Wade Wall (When a Stranger Calls). Foley is best known for films such as Glengarry Glen Ross, Fear, The Chamber and The Corruptor. More recently he has directed episodes of House of Cards and Hannibal. There’s no news on when the Jacob’s Ladder do-over might shoot.
