Don Cheadle To Direct & Star In Miles Davis Biopic, With Ewan McGregor & Zoe Saldana Also Attached

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

don-cheadleThere have been various attempts at making a biopic of Miles Davis, but now one’s moving forward as Don Cheadle, Ewan McGregor, and Zoe Saldana are set to star in Kill the Trumpet Player, which is based on a few dangerous days in the life of the musician, fighter and genius, as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer (McGregor) to steal back his music.

Cheadle is set to play Davis and will be pulling double-duty and he’s set to make his feature directorial debut from a script co-written with Steven Baigelman. The actor has been involved for a couple of years, but it’s only now it’s getting made. Herbie Hancock, a legend in his own right and close collaborator of Davis, will participate in the project as well.

There’s no news on who McGregor and Saldana will play.

BiFrost Picture’s Daniel Wagner commented, “Don is one of our generation’s greatest actors, and this is the role he was born to play. His take on the conventional biopic of one of music’s most celebrated icons is cinematic “jazz” and too unique to resist. It fits naturally with BiFrost’s commitment to support talent and their passion projects, so we are thrilled to work with Don on his feature directorial debut.”

Dwayne Johnson Is Not Without Hope As He Signs Up For A Survival Drama

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dwayne-johnsonDwayne Johnson has done a lot of action and a bit of comedy, but it appears he wants to show off his more dramatic skills, as he’s signed on to star in the upcoming Not Without Hope, according to Variety.

The film is based on Nick Schuyler’s 2010 memoir about a boat trip that went very bad. In 2009 the former football player went on a fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico with NFL players Marquis Cooper, Corey Smith and his best friend, Will Bleakley. Unfortunately their boat capsized, leaving them stranded for days as they battled hypothermia while they waited for rescue. Johnson will play Schuyler.

We’re assuming this won’t be your typical The Rock movie, as while he may have to fend off sharks, there aren’t many car chases and fights when you’re floating around in the ocean.

Schuyler commented, “I’m humbled that Relativity was interested in paying tribute to Marquis, Corey and Will, and I was impressed with their vision for the film and how they wanted to honour how these guys lived and loved their families, friends and teammates.”

First Look At Cameron Diaz As Miss Hannigan In Annie

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

annie-cameron-diaz
Annie has been filming for a while now, and while there have been a few set-pics that have been floating around, we haven’t seen much of Cameron Diaz in the movie. Now the actress herself has tweeted an image of herself all made up for the role, along with the message, ‘Her name is Ms.Hannigan. She ain’t nice and she ain’t pretty. #Annie’

Agath Hannigan runs the orphanage that house lil’ Annie at the start of the film. She’s a drunk who hates children and makes the kids’ lives hell.

The music for this new version has been updated by Will Smith and Jay-Z score, although it’s not known yet quite how contemporary the tunes will become and whether we’ll get a hip-hop version of Tomorrow. The plot remains the same though, with orphan Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx), who initially doesn’t really want her, but soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms.

Will Gluck is directing, with as Christmas 2014 release set.

First Pics Of Sexy Jamie Dornan For Fifty Shades Of Grey, As The Film’s Release Gets Delayed

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fifty-shades-ew-pic1A few hours ago it was announced that Universal has decided to delay the release of Fifty Shades Of Grey, and around the same time the first pics of Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson that were taken for the movie arrived, via EW.

The movie was due for release August 2014, however Universal has now announced it’ll be coming February 13th, 2015 instead – it’ll certainly make a different sort of Valentine’s movie. The reason for the delay is due to the ever shrinking production schedule. Things were already tight before Charlie Hunnam left the lead role of Christian Grey, causing a rush to find a replacement. That meant a delay in the shoot, and even less time to get it ready.

It also moves Fifty Shades away from the heavy competition of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and the 2014 Soccer World Cup. Instead it’ll get a prime President’s Day weekend debut in the US.

The new pics are pretty nice too, although there’s little hint of the BDSM the book is famous for.

Harry Potter Producer David Heyman Up For Temple Run Adaptation

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-HeymanThere seems to have been a big increase in interest in videogame adaptations in Hollywood in the last 12 months, despite the fact few of them have ever found success at the box office. Now another one is the works, Temple Run, and it’s got Harry Potter’s David Heyman attached to produce, according to Variety.

The game is, about a player who gets chased by ‘demonic monkeys after stealing an idol from a temple.’ Although that doesn’t immediately sound made for cinema, Warner Bros. obviously sees brand recognition possibility, as the mobile game has been downloaded over 100 million times and has spawned successful merchandise such as physical board games and strategy guides.

Now writer or director is attached as yet.

Snow White and the Huntsman Director Rupert Sanders Takes on Napoleon

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rupert Sanders had a big success with Snow White And The Huntsman, but his rise was dented when it was revealed the married director was having an affair with Kristen Stewart. However it hasn’t ruined his career completely, as Warner Bros. has hired Sanders to direct an upcoming biopic about Napoleon, according to THR.

The film will apparently be ‘a Scarface-like look’ at Napoleon Bonaparte, the French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the latter stages of the French Revolution, rising to power and getting involved in all manner of wars as he tried to expand the French Empire (and he even made himself Emperor so he could properly rule over it).

The Killing scribe Jeremy Doner is writing the script. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

James Franco Is Unimpressed By Shame’s Depiction Of Sex Addiction And Gay Sex

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

james-francoShame was very well received by the critics on its 2011, with many praising Michael Fassbender’s performance (and his penis) as a sex addict. However not everyone was impressed, and that includes James Franco.

In his regular column for VICE, he writes, ‘He wasn’t such an addict in my opinion, though. I mean, what did he do? Watch porn and screw a handful of people a week? I could point to quite a few folks who do that. And that scene where he’s at his lowest point and wants to fuck and goes into a gay club, and it’s depicted like the seventh level of hell… I mean, it goes back to the horrible representations of gays in the 70s, where the gay club is meant to signify everything dark and depraved. Then the guy gets a minor blowjob, from, Oh no, a man! The horror!’

He’s right about the gay club, as there is an element that it’s been okay when he was just screwing chicks, but he’s sunk as low as you can get when he wants a BJ from a guy. Sure he’s a straight man so it does show how strong the need for some sort of sexual release is, but the film does make it seem it’s the gayness that’s the issue.

Dan Stevens Joins Adam Sandler In The Cobbler

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dan-StevensDan Stevens is an increasingly busy man. Even since he left Downton Abbey he’s booked a slew of roles in the likes of The Fifth Estate, A Walk Among The Tombstone, The Guest and just a few days ago, Night At The Museum 3.

Now he’s got another as Variety reports he’s joined the cast of The Cobbler, alongside Adam Sandler. Tom McCarthy is set to direct.

Not too much is known about the film, other than it’s set in the modern day and follows ‘a shoe man who has the ability to metaphysically step into the lives of the people whose shoes he repairs.’

McCarthy is best known for The Station Agent and The Visitor, and will start filming The Cobbler very soon, as Sandler wants to fit it in before moving on to Jason Reitman’s Men Women & Children (another less overtly comic venture for the actor). It also mean Stevens has time for this before Night At The Museum 3 begins shooting in January.

Tar Trailer – James Franco, Jessica Chastain And Mila Kunis star

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco is a busy boy both as an actor and director. Although it seems difficult to imagine he’s have time to fit any more in, we’ve now got a trailer for Tar, which sees Franco team up with Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain, Henry Hopper and Zach Braff.

The film is ‘based on Pulitzer prize-winning poet CK Williams’ collection of the same name. The film blends together adaptations of 11 of the poems to create a poetic road trip through CK William’s life. The film takes us on a journey through several decades of American life from CK’s childhood and adolescence in Detroit in the 1940s and 50s to the early 1980s: CK and his wife Catherine are married with their son Jed. CK prepares for a reading of ‘Tar’ in New York City, and spends his nights struggling to write new poems, haunted by memories of his past. As CK drives to his reading in New York City, he remembers central moments of his life: we come to experience and understand both his relationship to love and loss, and how he found his calling as a poet through the women in his life. The film takes us back and forth between past and present, punctuated by voice-over from CK Williams’ poems, recreating the experience of memory and exploring how the fragments of one’s man life can be turned.’

A December US release is set. [Read more…]

Simon Pegg Gets A Groovy ‘Tache In The First Image From Kill Me Three Times

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kill-me-three-times-pic1Simon Pegg is going for a bit of a different look in Kill Me Three Times if the first image above is anything to by, as we’re not used to seeing him with a huge gun and a 70s moustache, while playing a hired killer. Timed to coincide with the American Film Market, Indiewire premiered the image.

The movie is an ‘Aussie thriller that centers on a young singer (Alive Braga) in a multi-threaded tale of blackmail and revenge that includes a mercurial assassin (Simon Pegg), a gambling addict (Sullivan Stapleton) and a small town Lady Macbeth (Teresa Palmer), amongst others’. Those others include Luke Hemsworth, Bryan Brown and Callan Mulvey.

Kriv Stenders directs, with the plan being to release the movie sometime next year.
