Zac Efron & Ryan Gosling Rumoured For Star Wars Episode VII

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Zac Efron for Flaunt magazine

Zac Efron

We’d take this with a pinch of salt at the moment, as it’s merely one of many rumours swirling around the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. However, Latino Review is suggesting that Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling are being sought for the film. The site previously suggested Leonardo DiCaprio had come in for a meeting about Star Wars, but bailed to do the Robotech movie instead.

It is not known who they might play, but it’s being said that one of the actors has already taken a meeting with Lucasfilm and Disney. The current speculation is that Ryan Gosling is being sought to play Luke Skywalker’s kid, while Zac Efron will play Han Solo’s child.

Disney and Lucasfilm are said to be saving their big Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcements for the D23 Expo, which happens August 9th-11th in Anaheim, California, home of Disneyland. However even that’s speculation at the moment, but with an early 2014 shoot being eyed for a 2015 release, it’s certainly not impossible we’ll find out who’s set to star at the Expo.

Andrew Garfield Gets Into 99 Homes

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-manAndrew Garfield is currently shooting The Amazing Spider-man 2 and Sony is already planning parts 3 & 4, but the young actor is hoping to slot in some other movies between those films. One of whose should be 99 Homes for writer-director Ramin Bahrani (Man Push Cart), according to THR.

The film is about a young father (Garfield) who loses his home due to a foreclosure. Desperate for work, he takes a job with the greedy real estate broker who took away his house, helping him evict other homeowners and embezzling money from the government. Although this helps with his difficult financial situation, the man becomes becomes increasingly morally conflicted about his new job.

Ramin Bahrani is directing from his own screenplay. The producers are now looking for someone to plat that broker. It’s not clear when it will shoot.

Final US Poster For Lindsay Lohan’s The Canyons Arrives

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

canyons-poster-final
For a movie that cost virtually nothing to make and which has had a decidedly mixed reaction from those who’ve seen it, there’s certainly been a lot written about The Canyons. Whether its director Paul Schrader and writer Brett Easton Ellis’ determination to make it outside the usual studio system, the casting of Lindsay Lohan and reports of her difficult behaviour on set, or indeed the fact it sees hardcore porn star James Deen in his first ‘straight’ leading role, it’s certainly ignited interest.

Now US audiences will finally get to see the movie when it’s released on August 2nd, and to entice people the final poster for the film has been released, which isn’t amazing but is suitably noir.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Christian is a young LA trust-fund dude who’s financing a horror film simply to keep his dad off his back about doing something with his life. He has been dating Tara for about a year — she was an aspiring actress/model who settled down with him when the reality of the business became apparent to her. She’s now just Christian’s bored plaything. Christian’s assistant Gina is casting the film with assistance from Tara. Gina is pushing Ryan, her boyfriend and struggling actor, for the lead. Unbeknownst to either Christian or Gina, Ryan and Tara were a couple three years ago. When Ryan came back into Tara’s life during the auditions for the movie, they reignited their affair. But Christian, a dangerous control-freak, finds out about the affair and starts playing cruel mind games with both Tara and Ryan, which escalate into an act of bloody violence.’

Ewan McGregor & Gwyneth Paltrow In Talks To Join Johnny Depp In Mortdecai

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ewan-mcgregorA few weeks ago, Johnny Depp signed up to star in Mortdecai, filling the gap in his schedule left when he stepped away from the Whitey Bulger biopic he’d been involved with. Now he may have some company in the new movie, as Variety reports that Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor are in talks to join Depp in David Koepp’s film.

Koepp is currently rewriting the original script by Eric Aronson, which in turn is based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s 1970s book, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.

Depp will play Charles Mortdecai, a debonair art dealer and part-time rogue who travels the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold. He also has to juggle angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist.

There’s no news on exactly who Paltrow or McGregor might play, although if we had to bet we’d say Paltrow will be the wife, while McGregor will be turning Mi5.

The film will shoot once Depp has completed Transcendence and his role as the big bad wolf in the musical Into The Woods.

James McTeigue Takes On Bloodsport Reboot

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bloodsport-jean-claude-van-dammeBack in the 1980s, Bloodsport was one of the films that helped launch Jean-Claude Van Damme’s film career. It led to two sequels in the mid-90s, neither of which starred Van Damme. Now Relativity Media thinks it’s time for a reboot, and they’ve hired James McTeigue (V For Vendetta, The Raven) to direct it, according to Variety.

Back in 2011, Philip Noyce was hired to direct, but he’s no longer involved. The new Bloodsport will have a fresh story, although set in a similar world to the original 1988 movie). Robert Mark Kamen (Taken) came up with the script (which will now be rewritten by Craig Rosenberg, under McTeigue’s supervision), which follows a group of 21st Century mercenaries who clash with the underground world of Brazilian Vale Tudo fighting.

No cast members have been announced yet, and it seems at the moment that original Bloodsport star Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be back. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Sylvester Stallone Plans Rocky Spin-Off, Based Around Apollo Creed’s Grandson

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rocky-Apollo-CreedAfter 2006’s Rocky Balboa, you might have thought we’d seen the last of the franchise that shot Sylvester Stallone to superstardom in 1976. However, now a spin-off is planned, with Stallone teaming up with Fruitvale Station direction Ryan Coogler for Creed, according to Deadline.

Michael B. Jordan is in early talks to play the grandson of Apollo Creed, famously portrayed by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky movies, and still probably Rocky’s greatest opponent. Stallone is also set to play Balboa once more, taking on the role for the seventh time.

The movie will be about Creed’s grandson, who was raised in the lap of luxury but still possesses a natural instinct for boxing. However, his family do not want him to pursue a career in the ring. Despite that Rocky Balboa, who is now out of the game and has no desire to return to boxing, agrees to step in and mentor the young man.

Ryan Coogler has said that this is a dream project for him and when his agent put him in touch with Stallone, the actor thankfully agreed. Coogler is currently co-writing the screenplay with Aaron Covington, and if everything works out, the film will reunite him with his Fruitvale Station star, Michael B. Jordan. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Abigail Breslin Joins Arnie In The Zombie Flick Maggie

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abigail-BreslinRemember the cute little girl from Signs and Little Miss Sunshine? Well, now Abigail Breslin is 17-years-old and having had a few run-ins with the undead in Zombieland, she’s now returning to zombie territory for Maggie.

She’s in talks to play the title role, according to THR, which will see her starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. Chloe Moretz was originally set to play Maggie, but she’s been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

In the movie, a zombie epidemic has spread across the country. The main plot follows a father (Schwarzenegger) whose daughter Maggie (Breslin) has become infected, as he tries to get her to come to terms with the plague and her fate, before she becomes one of the walking dead.

Commercials director Henry Hobson is set to make his feature directorial debut with Maggie, which is based on a script by John Scott 3. Filming will start later this year.

Billy Magnussen Set To Replace Jake Gyllenhaal In Into the Woods

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago it was revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal has dropped out of playing one of the pompous princes in Rob Marshall’s movie version of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into The Woods (due to scheduling clashes with the film Nightcrawler). While it might have seemed like bad news we wouldn’t be seeing Jake singing and dancing, from the evidence of the image above, Billy Magnussen will be a good replacement.

Deadline reports that the Broadwalk Empire and Broadway star is now in talks to over Gyllenhaal’s role in the movie. If he does sign on he will be Rapunzel’s prince, who gets a big musical number opposite Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince Charming.

The movie is about a baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) who head into the woods to confront an evil witch (Meryl Streep), whose curse prevents the couple from ever having children.

Along their way they encounter various fairytale characters such as Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella and the Big Bad Wolf (Johnny Depp). Tracey Ullman is set to be the mother of Jack the Giant Killer, while Christine Baranski is Cinderella’s mean stepmother. Anna Kendrick recently signed on to play Cinderella.

Rob Marshall is directing from a screenplay by James Lapine. Shooting is scheduled to begin this autumn.

Andrew Garfield Elaborates On Why He Thinks Spider-man Stands For Equality

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-manA couple of weeks ago, Andrew Garfield made waves when he joked that he thought it could turn out Spider-man is gay, and that MJ turns out to be a guy, preferably played by Michael B. Jordan.

Now he’s been talking more about his ideas about the character and why he thinks Spider-man is all about equality.

He told Vulture, “My beliefs about living and about life and about the world and humankind have nothing to do with Spider-Man, but what I do believe is that Spider-Man stands for equality. Spider-Man will protect whoever needs protecting: gay, straight, black, lesbian, bisexual, transgender. He’s not gonna go help the middle-class white dude before he helps the homosexual black dude! He is an Everyman, and he is covered head to toe in costume, which is different than any other superhero I’m aware of, and I think that’s why he’s so universally relatable. And he is color-blind and he is blind to any sexual orientation, so it was more just a philosophical question of “Why not?” And I stick to it. I long for the time when we don’t see skin color, where sexual orientation is treated as a small thread in the fabric of a person as opposed to defining them.”

Snowpiercer Animated Prequel – Introducing us to the world of the much-anticipated sci-fi flick

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first preview screenings of Snowpiercer took place during the last week, and the response was so ecstatic it’s pushed the film to the top of many people’s must-see list. Now an animated prequel to the movie has emerged, introducing us to the world of the movie and showing us how the Earth became the dystopian place the film explores.

Snowpiercer is set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are a train (which gives the film its name) that travels around the globe. However a revolution is brewing amongst the passengers inside. The film has a great cast, following Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner) and Yona (Ah-sung Ko) as they ride the train.

No release date is currently set, but it should be out later this year. [Read more…]
