July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the movies that will be hoping to be in the Oscar race next year is Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Now the first teaser for the movie has been released, with Idris Elba getting very literal as he actually on a long walk in the middle of nowhere. There are also a couple of posters you can see below.

Elba plays Nelson Mandela, with Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. The epic motion picture spans Mandela’s extraordinary life, from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected President of South Africa.

It’s currently due out January 2014.

Hiccup & Toothless Return In A How To Train Your Dragon 2 Teaser Trailer

July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

DreamWorks Animation’s movie have been very variable, but How To Train Your Dragon was certainly one of the best. It was also a decent sized hit, so it’s not surprising the sequel-loving company has come up with a sequel, which we can get a taste of thanks to a new teaser trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The thrilling second chapter of the epic How To Train Your Dragon trilogy brings back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.’

The film is currently due out June 20th, 2014.

300: Rise Of An Empire Comic-Con Poster Released

July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

300-rise-of-an-empire-poster3300: Rise Of An Empire may have been delayed from a Summer 2013 to Winter 2014 release, but it’s still hoping to make a strong showing at Comic-Con next weekend, and to help prepare they’ve released a new Comic-Con poster for the movie.

The follow-up to 300, which runs parallel to the earlier movie, stars Sullivan Stapleton as General Themistokles, who attempts to unite all of Greece in battle against the evil Persian ruler Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Expect plenty more stylised violence!

It’ll be in cinemas March 2014.

Jeff Wadlow Writing & Possibly Directing X-Men Spin-Off, X-Force

July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-wadlowOver the last couple of days, various movie blogs have been speculating over whether Fox was planning an X-Force spin-off from their X-Men movies, due to the fact they’ve registered the web address, ‘x-forcemovie.com’.

That’s now been confirmed by THR, with the added info that Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is in talks to write and possibly direct the movie, with longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner attached to oversee the project.

The comic book series was launched in the 1990s as a militant counterpart to the X-Men franchise. The original line-up  included heroes such as Boom Boom, Cable, Cannonball, Deadpool, Domino, Feral, Shatterstar and Warpath, with later versions including Wolverine, Colossus, Psylocke, and Sunspot. As it’s early days, there’s no news on which mutants might appear, whether it’ll be an entirely new cast, or a mix of old and new.

X-Force comic book creator Rob Liefeld also confirmed the development on his Twitter page, saying, ‘Yup. Was informed in March RT @Graysonmm: @robertliefeld http://t.co/il1lbRtDud an X-Force movie?’

‘And by informed, I mean told that an X-Force film was in the planning stages. Much different than shooting a film.

‘When they cast an X-Force film then its reason to celebrate. They have a Magneto film in ‘development’ as well. Proceed with caution.’

‘Cross your fingers and hope for good things for X-Force. Being ON the radar is much better than not!’

Johnny Depp Likely To Come Back For Alice In Wonderland 2

July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Johnny-DeppWith the failure of The Lone Ranger at the US box office, you might think Disney would be shying away from being in the Johnny Depp business, but they obviously still love him, as it’s been revealed that the star’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, is moving to the House Of Mouse, and he’s close to signing a deal to return as the Mad Hatter in the planned Alice In Wonderland 2, according to Deadline.

Back in May, James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted) signed up to direct the movie from a screenplay by Alice in Wonderland writer Linda Woolverton. Although it’s believed that it’s currently titled Through the Looking Glass, no official title has been confirmed.

While studios normally try to get sequels out as quickly as possible, this one has taken a while to get going. However, as Alice in Wonderland broke the $1 billion barrier at the box office during its theatrical run in 2010, you can understand why they want a follow-up.

Mia Wasikowska will likely return as Alice, but it is not known if other Alice in Wonderland stars such as Helena Bonham Carter or Anne Hathaway will be back. There’s no news on when it might shoot, but with Bobin busy on Muppets Most Wanted, it’s unlikely it’ll be before early next year.

Documentary About Coming Out In The Digital Age Seeks Funding

July 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Coming out is something nearly everyone on the LGBT spectrum does at some point in their lives. Now a new documentary, from filmmaker Alden Peters, wants to taking a look at the subject, asking ‘What significance does the traditional “coming out story” have in the digital era?’ To do so he uses his own coming out story, which he managed to capture on film.

Coming Out is now seeking Kickstarter funding, hoping to raise $20,000 to get the film through post-production, license the music and archive footage, and get it into film festivals, with the hope of getting everything ready in time for Sundance 2014. As always, there are plenty of goodies on offer depending on how much you pledge.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘COMING OUT is a feature-length documentary that reveals a portrait of the coming out process from the perspectives of everyone involved.

‘Shocked by the youth suicide tragedies in 2010, Alden Peters decided to come out of the closet to his friends, family, and online acquaintances. In the process of finding a new, gay identity, Alden discovers the profound ways that the internet and digital world can provide safety, community, and support, but also allow for cyberbullying, discrimination, and invasions of privacy. What importance does the traditional “coming out story” have in the gay community when there is now a digital component?’

Saving Mr. Banks Trailer – Tom Hanks channels his inner Walt Disney

July 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are hoping to dust off their Oscar outfits with nominations for Saving Mr. Banks, about Walt Disney’s difficulties getting Mary Poppins author PL Travers to allow him to make a film version.

The film follows how, before signing away the book’s rights, Mary Poppins author PL Travers’ demands for contractual script and character control circumvent not only Disney’s vision for the film adaptation, but also those of the creative team of screenwriter Don DaGradi and sibling composers Richard and Robert Sherman.

When Travers travels from London to Hollywood in 1961 to finally discuss Disney’s desire to bring her beloved character to the motion picture screen (a quest he began in the 1940s as a promise to his two daughters), Disney meets a prim, uncompromising sexagenarian not only suspect of the impresario’s concept for the film, but a woman struggling with her own past. During her stay in California, Travers’ reflects back on her childhood in 1906 Australia, a trying time for her family which not only moulded her aspirations to write, but also inspired the characters in her 1934 book.

The film is due for an Oscar-bait December 2013 release. [Read more…]

Sharlto Copley Is Going Hardcore For A Point Of View Thriller

July 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sharlto-copleyAfter District 9, Sharlto Copley said he wasn’t really planning to be an actor and was probably just gonna head back to South Africa and go back to work. However that’s changed with roles in The A-Team, Elysium, Oldboy and more. Now he’s signed up for Hardcore, from first time features writer/director writer  Ilya Naishuller.

Naishuller made the well-received POV short, Bad Motherf****r, which caught the eye of Timur Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), who handed him a deal to make a movie using the innovative point of view style.

Now much is known about the plot, although it will shoot in Russia (where Bekmambetov has a studio that can do things cheaply), but have English dialogue. The only other details, according to TheWrap, are that ‘the stylized action movie will feature sci-fi elements and find Copley killing a lot of bad guys to save a damsel in distress’.

You can get a feel for the intense Bad Motherf****r style with the vid below.

New Amazing Spider-man 2 Pics Reveal More Of Electro & Rhino

July 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-preview-pic1
Yesterday we got our first official look at Amazing Spider-man 2 villain Electro with the new cover of EW, and now a load more images have been released from inside the mag’s Comic-Con 2013 preview issue.

They give us a better look at the creepy Electro, as well as Paul Giamatti’s Rhino’s, along with Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

It’s all looking pretty cool as Spider deals with his rising public profile as well as his promise to Gwen’s father to stay away from her – a promise he can’t keep – although hints at where the film series is going suggest that he ought to.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 hits cinemas May 2nd 2014. Click on the pics below for larger versions.
